David Ortiz singled and launched a two-run homer in Thursday's loss to the Cardinals.

Ortiz's two-run blast in the sixth inning over the Green Monster gave the Red Sox a short-lived lead, but the Cards answered with three runs in the seventh to even the series. Papi also had a single to beat the shift in the eighth but was left stranded. The postseason stud has now gone deep in each of the first two games of the World Series.

Corey Dickerson left Saturday's Cactus League game with lower back tightness.

Dickerson exited after the third inning but said it was mostly a precautionary move. It's not something to be too concerned about, and he should be back in action soon.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports the Mets and Lucas Duda have had discussions about a long-term contract extension.

Duda said the talks have been "preliminary stuff and still in the works," so it doesn't sound like anything is close. Duda's agent, Dan Horwits, said the sides will table talks if a deal doesn't get done before Opening Day. Duda enjoyed a breakout year in 2014, swatting 30 homers and driving in 92 runs, and he appears to be the Mets' best answer at first base for the long run. As it stands, Duda won't be a free agent until after the 2017 season.

Jaime Garcia was scratched from his scheduled start Sunday after experiencing a setback with his surgically repaired left shoulder.

Garcia has some discomfort in the shoulder, so the club has decided to "hit the brakes" with the left-hander, manager Mike Matheny said. Marco Gonzales will start for the Cardinals in Garcia's place, and it could open the door for Carlos Martinez to win the fifth spot in the rotation after he had appeared to be on the outside looking in. More should be known about Garcia's outlook in a day or two.

Twins pitching prospect Lewis Thorpe will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament.

The surgery date has yet to be determined, but it's a tough blow for the 19-year-old hurler. He will miss the entire 2015 season and could be sidelined for the start of 2016 as well.
Mar 28 - 11:04 AM

Ryan Zimmerman is expected to be sidelined for the next 2-3 days after jamming his left shoulder on a diving play in Friday's Grapefruit League contest.

The Nationals don't believe that the injury is serious and do not have an MRI scheduled. Zimmerman remains fully confident that he will be in the team's lineup on Opening Day.

Twins optioned OF Aaron Hicks to Triple-A Rochester.

Once again, Hicks had an opportunity to seize the team's starting job in center field with a strong spring, but hit just .206/.300/.324 with a 9/5 K/BB ratio in 34 spring at-bats. It appears as though Jordan Schafer will function as the team's starting center fielder to begin the season.
Mar 28 - 9:12 AM

Christian Vazquez (elbow) said Saturday that his MRI "found something" but the team will get a second opinion before making a formal diagnosis.

That certainly doesn't sound promising for his chances of suiting up on Opening Day. Vazquez has been battling a sore right elbow for the past week or so which prompted the exam. If he is unavailable for the start of the season, Ryan Hanigan could function as the team's primary catcher.
Mar 28 - 8:59 AM

Carlos Gonzalez was removed from Friday's Cactus League contest against the Padres with a sore left knee.

The oft-injured outfielder walked off with the team trainer in the middle of the fourth inning. The Rockies announced that he was pulled for precautionary reasons, so at the moment it doesn't sound to be a serious concern. This shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the regular season.
Mar 27 - 11:51 PM

Yordano Ventura was outstanding in Friday's Cactus League start against the Mariners, hurling seven innings of no-hit ball.

Ventura whiffed four on the evening, while the only baserunners he allowed were on a pair of walks. It was far and away the best start of the spring for the young right-hander who sports a 5.14 ERA and 13/6 K/BB ratio over 14 innings. Recently tabbed as the Royals' Opening Day starter, Ventura will look to carry over this dominating effort into the regular season.
Mar 27 - 11:41 PM

Jorge Soler launched one of four Cubs home runs off Jeff Samardzija on Friday as they dispatched of the White Sox 6-3 in Cactus League action.

Soler was the first to take Samardzija out of the yard on Friday, blasting a two-run homer to put the Cubs on the board in the first inning. Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro and Chris Coghlan would each get in on the fun before the afternoon was through. Soler has been mighty impressive in Cactus League play, hitting .333 (14-for-42) with three homers and nine RBI.
Mar 27 - 8:14 PM

Josh Collmenter delivered an outstanding performance in Friday's Cactus League victory over the Indians scattering three hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings.

The Diamondbacks' Opening Day starter struck out three on the impressive afternoon. He has yet to be scored upon in 13 innings of work on the spring while registering a 6/2 K/BB ratio. Though he isn't going to compile many strikeouts, the 29-year-old hurler owns a career 3.42 ERA and 1.15 WHIP over 516 career innings and makes for a solid backend starter in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.
