Daniel Nava is starting in left field and batting fifth for the Red Sox in Saturday's Game 3 of the World Series.

It's Nava's first start of the series after starting two games in the ALCS. The left fielder doubled in Game 1 after entering as a substitute. The complete Red Sox lineup is Jacoby Ellsbury, Shane Victorino, Dustin Pedroia, David Ortiz, Nava, Xander Bogaerts, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Stephen Drew and starting pitcher Jake Peavy.

Yankees placed 1B Mark Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 27, with a right shin bone bruise.

The Yankees threw Teixeira's fantasy owners a bone here, as DL moves are rarely made in September. The move was made because they wanted to bring back reliever Nick Rumbelow before his 10-day waiting period was up. Teixeira is getting around on crutches at the moment and is expected to miss at least a couple weeks.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Mets and Matt Harvey's agent, Scott Boras, are disagreeing about what Harvey's innings limit should be.

Boras says that doctors advised a 180-inning limit for Harvey before the season, but general manager Sandy Alderson is contending that the pitcher has had a "soft" innings limit all along. Harvey is sitting at 166 1/3 innings currently. The Mets plan to skip one more of the right-hander's starts but have no plans to shut him down. Boras can be upset all he wants if/when Harvey surpasses the 180-inning threshold, but he has no recourse here.

Kyle Schwarber will be sidelined for at least 3-5 days after being diagnosed with a right rib cage strain.

Well, it could have been worse. Schwarber will be re-evaluated in 3-5 days to see how much progress he's made and could return to the lineup at that time. The impressive rookie injured his ribs when he dove after a ball Tuesday and felt soreness the following day while taking batting practice.

Josh Johnson (elbow) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Friday.

He'll throw one inning Friday and is set for another inning for Lake Elsinore on Monday. It looks like the Padres will bring Johnson back as a reliever, assuming he makes it back at all. He hasn't pitched in a game since August of 2013 and has had numerous setbacks along the way as he works his way back from a second Tommy John surgery.
Sep 4 - 10:53 AM

Lucas Duda (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Binghamton on Saturday.

Duda hasn't recovered quite as quickly as hoped from a thoracic herniation in his back, but it does look like he'll be activated in a few days. The Mets figure to be careful with his playing time down the stretch.
Sep 4 - 10:43 AM

Carlos Carrasco (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session on Friday.

If it goes well, Carrasco could rejoin the Indians' rotation early next week during the series against the Royals. The right-hander has missed the last two weeks with a shoulder injury, but he was cleared of any structural damage and Cleveland is confident the ailment isn't a big deal.

Yangervis Solarte finished with a huge game in Thursday's 10-7 win over the Dodgers, going 4-for-5 with a solo home run, two doubles and three runs scored.

Tight effort by Solarte, who played a key role in the Padres' come-from-behind win. He cracked a solo homer in the seventh to draw his team to within 7-6, then finished off the night's scoring with an RBI double in a four-run eighth. The strong performance boosted the 28-year-old infielder's season triple-slash to .267/.321/.428. He's also hit 12 homers and driven in 55. This is the first season in which Solarte's seen more than 252 at-bats.
Sep 4 - 1:52 AM

Top Dodgers prospect Corey Seager went 2-for-4 with a double, a two-run single and two runs scored in Thursday's 10-7 loss to the Padres.

Seager's two-run single in the sixth gave the Dodgers a 6-5 lead, but their bullpen would collapse in the late innings as they stole defeat from the jaws of victory. The 21-year-old shortstop is one of the top position prospects in the game and could make an immediate impact down the stretch, though his true fantasy value probably won't surface until he's installed for an entire season. Prior to Thursday's promotion, he hit to a .292/.343/.486 batting line with 18 homers and 74 RBI while splitting time between Double-A and Triple-A over the course of 124 games.
Sep 4 - 1:43 AM

Carlos Gonzalez had another spectacular game Thursday, going 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBI in an 11-3 drubbing of the Giants.

Gonzalez had a career-high seven RBI in a two-homer game against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. He's the seventh player this year to have consecutive two-homer games, which is particularly impressive since he was also the fourth back on July 25-26. Gonzalez is now tops in the NL with 35 homers, one more than teammate Nolan Arenado. He's hit 31 of those in his last 76 games.
Sep 4 - 12:10 AM

Andrew McCutchen acknowledged Thursday that he's dealing with a "tight Achilles."

McCutchen made sure to say that his knee isn't the issue, but he admitted that he's been feeling "a little sore" and "hobbling around a little bit." He's not in the starting lineup Thursday, but we expect him back for Friday's series opener against the Cardinals.
Sep 3 - 5:15 PM

Daniel Murphy is dealing with a mild strain of his left quad.

Murphy left Wednesday's game with what was described as "mild discomfort" in his quad. He missed some time earlier this year with the same injury and has apparently been playing through it again in recent days. The Mets are calling him day-to-day for now.
