Shane Robinson will start in center field and bat second in Game 5 of the World Series against the Red Sox on Monday.

Jon Jay will take a seat with left-hander Jon Lester on the hill for Boston. With Robinson in the No. 2 spot, Carlos Beltran will bat cleanup for the Cardinals. The full St. Louis lineup: Matt Carpenter 2B, Robinson, Matt Holliday LF, Beltran, Yadier Molina C, Matt Adams 1B, David Freese 3B, Pete Kozma SS, Adam Wainwright SP.

Robinson Cano is dealing with an abdominal strain and will undergo an MRI.

Cano initially was hurt while playing the field on Monday. The ailment isn't considered serious, as the Mariners are saying the MRI is precautionary. He's expected to travel with the M's for their road trip that begins Thursday.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that there's a "30/70" chance that Carlos Gonzalez is traded.

The Rockies are willing to listen to offers for Gonzalez, but they apparently haven't gotten any yet to motivate them to trade the slugger. CarGo is the hottest hitter in baseball with a .431/.471/.969 batting line and 10 homers over his last 16 games. He's owed $37 million from 2016-2017.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Mike Leake is one of the starters the Blue Jays are considering.

Rosenthal says that the Jays' targets are "all at similar talent levels," which suggests that they aren't in the market for an ace if they're considering Leake. Toronto is "looking for the best acquisition cost," Rosenthal adds. Leake certainly didn't hurt his trade value with eight shutout innings against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

Ryan Braun (back) is back in the Brewers' lineup Wednesday.

Braun missed the previous two contests with lower back tightness but is feeling well enough to give it a go. The former MVP is hitting .268/.338/.487 with 18 homers and 16 steals this season.
Jul 29 - 12:54 PM

Byron Buxton (thumb) will take batting practice on the field Thursday before then beginning to play in simulated games at the Twins' spring training complex.

It's unclear how many sim games he'll need, but if they go well Buxton will then be cleared for a rehab assignment. There had been some talk that the young outfielder could be out until as long as late August, but it's looking like it will definitely be sooner than that if he can avoid a setback.
Jul 29 - 12:52 PM

Clayton Kershaw (hip) has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start versus the Athletics.

It's unclear when Kershaw's hip/glute started bothering him, but it's not seen as a major issue. The Dodgers hope the left-hander will be ready to start on Saturday or Sunday against the Angels. Mike Bolsinger will take the ball Wednesday instead.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Dodgers, Yankees and Blue Jays are "poised to have an all-out bidding war" for David Price "once they get the go-ahead."

To this point, the Tigers have remained steadfast in their desire to compete for a playoff spot this season rather than be sellers. But, it's getting harder by the day for them to view themselves as real contenders, so they could reverse course soon. Price would be one of a few assets they could barter off, with Yoenis Cespedes and Joakim Soria being a couple others.
Jul 29 - 12:11 PM

Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Dodgers have acquired Mat Latos and Mike Morse from the Marlins in exchange for prospects.

Wittenmyer adds that the Dodgers will also receive "at least one competitive balance pick." The Dodgers almost surely aren't done shopping for starters, but Latos should fit in nicely in their rotation, as he boasts a 2.96 ERA and 43/9 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings since returning from the disabled list. Morse is merely a salary dump by the Marlins, so he would serve only in a pinch-hitting role in Los Angeles.
Jul 29 - 11:22 AM

Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been cleared to swing off a tee.

He's been taking dry swings for a week and is ready to take the next step. While manager Dan Jennings wouldn't offer a firm timetable on when Stanton will return, he didn't rule out the slugger being activated at some point next week. "His hand looks good," Jennings said. "It's healed. The scar looks well. Now he's going to start off the tee and into flips. He'll progress at his timetable. It's good to see him making strides the right way."
Jul 29 - 10:37 AM

Joe Panik will miss a second straight game Wednesday due to back tightness.

Panik noted that it wasn't one play that caused the injury, but rather it's just "one of those things" you have to deal with during a long season. He's considered day-to-day. Ehire Adrianza will get another start at second base Wednesday.
Jul 29 - 8:24 AM

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi thinks there's a "better chance" that the Tigers trade David Price than the White Sox trade Jeff Samardzija.

The White Sox suddenly have a better record than the Tigers after winning six straight and might decide to make a run at a Wild Card spot. It's certainly still possible another club makes an offer for Samardzija that they can't refuse, but the righty has pitched really well of late and Chicago could just settle on receiving draft pick compensation for him if he leaves as a free agent.
