Jon Lester was brilliant again Monday, spinning 7 2/3 frames of one-run ball in a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals in Game 5 of the World Series.

Matt Holliday put a misplaced cutter over the center field wall in the fourth inning, but Lester was fantastic otherwise, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out seven. He went 7 2/3 innings in each of his two World Series wins, allowing a total of just one run and 10 baserunners while boasting a 15/1 K/BB ratio. The Red Sox now head home up 3-2 and will send John Lackey to the mound Wednesday as they try to close things out. The Cardinals will counter with Michael Wacha.

Jayson Nix has replaced Christian Colon on the Royals' roster for the World Series.

Colon logged two plate appearances between the ALDS and ALCS while serving as a backup infielder. Nix was claimed off waivers from the Pirates in late August and appeared in seven games for the Royals down the stretch. This is the Royals' only roster change for the World Series against the Giants.

Yoenis Cespedes is now represented by Roc Nation Sports.

Cespedes was previously represented by Adam Katz of Wasserman Media Group, who negotiated his four-year, $36 million deal with the Athletics. The Cuban slugger is just the latest high-profile baseball name to align with Roc Nation, joining Robinson Cano, CC Sabathia, and Rusney Castillo. Cespedes is due to become a free agent after the 2015 and is clearly preparing for a big payday.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Michael Morse will be the team's DH in the World Series.

Morse didn't make a start in the NLCS, but he did slug a big game-tying home run in the Giants' series-deciding Game 5 win over the Cardinals. He missed most of September with an oblique injury, which is why he was left off the roster for the NLDS and limited to pinch-hitting duties in the Championship Series. Travis Ishikawa will be the Giants' primary left fielder in the Fall Classic against the Royals.

Adam Wainwright had his right elbow examined Friday and everything checked out "optimistically."

That's what Cardinals GM John Mozeliak told the media at his end-of-season press conference Monday at Busch Stadium, adding that Wainwright "should have a normal offseason." Waino had one good start but two bad starts during the playoffs and there was talk of his elbow acting up. But that discomfort likely had more to do with heavy usage than anything ligament-related or structural.

According to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Cardinals and Lance Lynn have expressed mutual interest in discussing a contract extension.

Lynn will be arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter and is coming off a career year which saw him register a 2.74 ERA and 181 strikeouts across 203 2/3 innings. It's risky to commit long term to any pitcher, but the Cards have money to spend and Lynn's price will only rise through arbitration if he continues on his current career trajectory. The 27-year-old has become a legitimate No. 2 starter.

Rob Bradford of WEEI reports that the Red Sox have reached an agreement with Chili Davis to become the team's new hitting coach.

Davis, who was widely coveted for many openings, interviewed with the Boston brass on Friday. Davis spent the previous three seasons serving as the hitting coach for the Oakland Athletics. Terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that "word has spread" that the Red Sox could make Yoenis Cespedes available for trade this offseason.

General manager Ben Cherington said last month that the team would like to discuss an extension with Cespedes, but it seems the outfielder might prefer to play out the final year of his contract before testing free agency. Cafardo also notes that Cespedes doesn't really want to play right field "or work on his defense." The Red Sox figure to make at least one trade this winter given their glut of outfielders, and it sounds like Cespedes might be the one to go.

Madison Bumgarner will start Tuesday's Game 1 of the World Series for the Giants.

Bumgarner finished off the Cardinals in Game 5 of the NLCS Thursday, so he'll be on regular rest for Tuesday's Game 1. The southpaw is 2-1 in four starts this postseason, and he owns a 2.67 ERA in 67 1/3 career postseason innings. He'll be opposed by James Shields for the Royals.

Brian Roberts announced his retirement from professional baseball on Friday.

A first round pick of the Orioles in 1999, the 37-year-old spent all but the final season of his 14-year big league career in Baltimore. The two-time All-Star finishes with a career slash of .276/.347/.409 with 97 homers, 542 RBI and 285 stolen bases. His last few years were marred by injuries, as he averaged just 57 games per season over his final five years.

Dodgers president Andrew Friedman said at his introductory press conference Friday that Don Mattingly will "definitely" be the club's manager in 2015.

Many had speculated that Friedman would try to bring Joe Maddon with him from Tampa Bay, but it won't happen, at least not until after next season. Friedman said Friday that his and Mattingly's thoughts are "very aligned." Mattingly is under contract through 2016.

Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowski said earlier this week that he's been told by doctors that Jose Iglesias (shins) will be "fine" for spring training.

"The doctors tell me he'll be fine," Dombrowski said. "He's going to be ready for spring training, he's going to be ready to go, and he's over all of his (injuries)." Iglesias, of course, missed all of the 2014 season due to stress fractures in both shins, but he's been ramping up his baseball activity of late without experiencing any issues. Dombrowski stopped short of officially naming Iglesias the team's shortstop for next season since he wants to see him in game action first, but he said he'd be "surprised" if the slick fielder isn't at the position on Opening Day.
