Jon Lester was brilliant again Monday, spinning 7 2/3 frames of one-run ball in a 3-1 victory over the Cardinals in Game 5 of the World Series.

Matt Holliday put a misplaced cutter over the center field wall in the fourth inning, but Lester was fantastic otherwise, allowing just four hits and no walks while striking out seven. He went 7 2/3 innings in each of his two World Series wins, allowing a total of just one run and 10 baserunners while boasting a 15/1 K/BB ratio. The Red Sox now head home up 3-2 and will send John Lackey to the mound Wednesday as they try to close things out. The Cardinals will counter with Michael Wacha.

Matt Kemp hit a bases-clearing double in the 10th inning to break a scoreless tie and send the Padres to a victory against the Angels on Tuesday.

Kemp made reliever Joe Smith pay for a single and two walks by clearing the bases with a double to left field. He scored not long after and finished the night 1-for-5. It marks his first multi-RBI game since April 29 as he has hit the skids offensively. Kemp is hitting .255/.291/.348 with only one home run and 25 RBI.

Mike Pelfrey allowed just one run over seven innings of work Tuesday, helping the Twins to squeak by the Red Sox 2-1.

Pelfrey allowed a second inning RBI single by Mike Napoli, but he was otherwise stellar in the outing. The right-hander yielded just five hits and a walk in total, striking out four. The win ran his record to 4-1, and Pelfrey owns a 2.77 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through nine starts. He'll have a shot at duplicating his success when the two clubs square off again Monday at Fenway Park.

David Price fired seven innings of scoreless baseball en route to a win on Tuesday against the Athletics.

Price scattered five hits -- four of which were singles -- and a walk while striking out three on the night. The Tigers' offense had opportunities to provide him more run support, but they were caught stealing in three of four attempts. Luckily, the one run was good enough to net Price the win. He's 4-1 now with a 2.97 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 57/14 K/BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings. Price finishes off a road trip against the Angels in his next start.

Clayton Kershaw tossed seven scoreless innings to pick up the win on Tuesday versus the Braves.

As strange as it sounds, Tuesday's outing was Kershaw's first in which he held the opposition scoreless. Kershaw scattered only four hits while striking out 10 and issuing no walks. He entered the game with a .347 BABIP and a 4.32 ERA, suggesting some of his struggles may just be bad luck. Kershaw's ERA is down to 3.86 with a 1.16 WHIP and an 83/16 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings. The lefty goes up against the Rockies at Coors Field in his next start.

Brandon Belt hit his fifth home run of the season to help the Giants best the Brewers 6-3 on Tuesday.

Belt hit the solo shot off Corey Knebel in the seventh inning. The homer was the fourth in the first baseman's last 10 games. Belt is hitting .301/.375/.510 with 20 RBI and 22 runs scored this season.

Prince Fielder stayed red hot Tuesday, finishing 3-for-5 with a three-run homer as the Rangers edged the Indians 4-3.

Fielder is in the midst of an otherworldly stretch, as he's now had five straight multi-hit games -- including four consecutive games with three hits -- and collected five home runs, 15 RBI and nine runs scored in that span. Fielder leads the league in batting average (.371) and RBI (38), and he's among the league leaders in a number of other categories. It's been quite a comeback year for the 31-year-old.

Kyle Seager hit two huge home runs Tuesday, including a grand slam, and had six RBI in the Mariners' 7-6 win over the Rays in 10 innings.

Seager had an RBI single in the first inning, but that was just the beginning. The third baseman hit a grand slam in the eighth and blasted a game-winning solo homer in the 10th. Seager has nine homers and 29 RBI to go with a .281/.328/.497 line.

Randal Grichuk finished 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI in the Cardinals' 6-4 win over the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Grichuk took an Archie Bradley pitch out to right field in the second inning for a solo shot, his second home run of the season. Grichuk also had an RBI single and stole his first base of the season in the win. He's hitting .292/.320/.604 in 17 games on the year.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said that he has a "high level" of concern about Matt Adams's right quad injury and a disabled list move is expected.

Adams strained his quad while rounding first base on a double in the fifth inning of Tuesday's game. It sounds like he could require a lengthy stay on the disabled list, although more won't be known until he presumably undergoes an MRI. Mark Reynolds is in line to play regularly at first base while Adams is out, and the team could bring up Xavier Scruggs from Triple-A.

Jose Abreu went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run and an RBI ground out in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Abreu gave the White Sox a short-lived 5-3 lead with a three-run home run to left field off of R.A. Dickey. He added an RBI ground out in the middle of a three-run eighth inning as well. The White Sox entered Tuesday's game averaging only 3.5 runs per game, the worst in the American League. But it's not Abreu's fault as he has eight home runs, 27 RBI, and a .274/.339/.476 triple-slash line.
May 26 - 10:55 PM

Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with three doubles and five RBI as the Blue Jays won in a slugfest against the White Sox.

Bautista gave the Jays a 3-2 lead in the third inning with a two-run ground-rule double. He added a two-run double in the fifth to give the Jays a 6-5 lead, then tacked on one more run with his third double in the seventh to make it a 7-6 game. Bautista has knocked in at least one run in nine of his last 11 games and is now batting .231/.373/.485 with seven home runs and 30 RBI on the season.
