According to Scott Merkin and Gregor Chisholm of MLB.com, the Blue Jays have interest in acquiring second baseman Gordon Beckham from the White Sox.

The pair reports that Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos has had interest in Beckham dating back to last offseason. The 27-year-old batted .267/.322/.372 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 408 plate appearances this season and is under team control through 2015. He could soon be expendable with young players like Marcus Semien and Micah Johnson in the pipeline. The White Sox are interested in prospect right-handers Aaron Sanchez or Marcus Stroman, but it's unlikely that Beckham will be enough to pry one of them away from Toronto.

Hunter Pence, in his return from the disabled list, went 1-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in to help the Giants beat the Mets on Tuesday.

Pence had been out for more than a month due to tendinitis in his left wrist. The outfielder knocked in his first run with a fielder's choice in the third inning, then added an RBI single in the fifth. In 80 plate appearances this season, Pence is hitting .280/.325/.440 with two home runs and 15 RBI.

Jason Motte allowed a run on three hits but recovered to earn the save in the Cubs' 5-3 win over the Cardinals in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Motte gave up singles to Randal Grichuk and Peter Bourjos to start the ninth and, after recording an out, a Tony Cruz RBI single made things interesting. But Motte righted the ship to get Matt Carpenter and Jhonny Peralta out to end the threat, securing a sweep of the doubleheader for the Cubs. Motte now has five saves to go with a 2.97 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, and Tuesday's usage further confirms he's currently the closer du jour for Cubs manager Joe Maddon.

Jeff Francoeur went 2-for-5 with a two-run double and a solo home run as the Phillies beat the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Francoeur added insurance as his two-run double made it 3-0 in the third inning, and he'd later come around to score. He homered off of Juan Nicasio in the seventh to make it a 7-2 game. The veteran has lived up to expectations, providing some power every now and then but not much else. Francoeur owns a .259/.292/.431 triple-slash line with six home runs and 26 RBI.

Mike Trout hit one of the Angels' four home runs Tuesday, finishing 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in a 10-2 victory.

Trout was hit by a pitch and scored in the first inning before blasting a three-run homer in the second. The home run was his 22nd home run of the season. The all-everything outfielder is once again among the American League leaders in most every category and will make his third straight All-Star Game start next week. Trout is hitting .302/.396/.584 with 48 RBI, 62 runs scored and nine steals on the year.

Manny Banuelos held the Brewers to one run over 5 1/3 innings to earn his first major league win, a 4-3 victory, on Tuesday.

The second batter of the game, Jonathan Lucroy, hit a solo shot off Banuelos, but the southpaw locked it down after that. Banuelos scattered five hits and three walks on the evening. The 24-year-old has been effective, if brief, in his two major league starts, throwing a combined 11 innings while allowing just the one run. A date with the Rockies in Colorado on Sunday may not be so friendly to Banuelos.

Tests showed that Kolten Wong suffered a mild concussion during the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Cubs.

Wong said after the game that he passed the test and is fine, but obviously that wasn't the case. That he says he's feeling OK suggests maybe he won't need to go on the 7-day concussion disabled list, but we should know more on Wednesday.
Jul 7 - 11:52 PM

Miguel Sano hit his first major league home run and the Twins raced past the Orioles 8-3 on Tuesday.

Sano hit the blast, a two-run shot, off Orioles starter Kevin Gausman in the first inning. He later collected an RBI walk, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI. Through six games the 22-year-old has been as advertised, hitting .450 with a 1.242 OPS and five RBI. If all goes as planned, the homer will be the first of many Sano will hit over the course of his career.
Jul 7 - 11:50 PM

Gregory Polanco delivered a run scoring triple late to help the Pirates edge the Padres on Tuesday.

Polanco finished 1-for-3 with a pair of walks on the evening. He tripled to bring in Sean Rodriguez and break a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning. All the Pirates had to do was bring in Mark Melancon from there. The 23-year-old has otherwise had a quiet year offensively, batting .232/.304/.336 with three home runs and 20 RBI.

Alex Gordon went 4-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in as the Royals easily beat the Rays in the second game of a doubleheader on Tuesday.

Gordon tied the game at one apiece in the fifth inning with an RBI single, added another RBI single to cap off a four-run sixth, and knocked in two with a double in the eighth. Gordon entered the game batting .133 (4-for-30) in his previous nine games. On the season, he's sitting on 10 home runs with 37 RBI, 30 runs scored, and a .280/.394/.459 batting line.
Jul 7 - 11:27 PM

Roberto Osuna picked up his fourth save of the season Tuesday, pitching a scoreless ninth to secure the Blue Jays' 2-1 win over the White Sox.

Osuna gave up a hit but nothing more in the frame. The right-hander has asserted himself since taking over the closer role for the Jays, registering four saves since June 22 while allowing one run in seven innings of work. The 20-year-old now owns a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 43/10 K/BB ratio over 39 innings on the year.
Jul 7 - 11:24 PM

Michael Brantley went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, helping the Indians fend off the Astros on Tuesday.

Brantley singled with two outs in the first inning and came around to score on David Murphy's double. He then clobbered a solo home run in the sixth inning to add an insurance run. Though he hasn't been nearly as dominant at the plate as he was last year, Brantley is still batting a productive .293/.365/.425 with five home runs, 43 RBI, 31 runs scored, and nine stolen bases.
