Mike Napoli will start at first base in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday.

David Ortiz got the nod at first base in St. Louis with the DH unavailable under National League rules, but Napoli is back in the lineup now that Boston has returned home. The full lineup for the Red Sox: Jacoby Ellsbury CF, Dustin Pedroia 2B, David Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Jonny Gomes LF, Shane Victorino RF, Xander Bogaerts 3B, Stephen Drew SS, David Ross C. John Lackey will be on the mound for Boston as they attempt to finish off the Cardinals.

George Springer (hand) hopes to be in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.

Springer lobbied to stay in Thursday's game after taking a pitch off his left hand but was overruled by manager A.J. Hinch. His X-rays came back negative and the Astros are hoping he'll be available for Friday night's series opener. The Astros appear to have dodged a major bullet here.

Angels GM Billy Eppler confirmed that Matt Shoemaker is still dealing with "symptoms" related to a strained forearm.

Shoemaker was tentatively scheduled to return Sunday against the Red Sox but instead was sent back to Los Angeles for further evaluation. A recent MRI cleared Shoemaker of any structural damage, though obviously there's still something bothering him. Parker Bridwell has been starting in his place.

Josh Donaldson (knee) is hoping to return Friday against the Royals.

Donaldson was a late scratch Thursday against Texas after hitting his knee on the concrete while stretching in pregame warmups. Russell Martin ended up starting at third base with Kendrys Morales DHing. Donaldson has cooled off a bit but is still slashing .286/.389/.554 with eight homers in 112 at-bats this season.

Paul Goldschmidt clobbered his 18th homer while providing four RBI Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ win over the Rockies.

Goldschmidt was ruthless on Thursday, first giving Arizona the lead with an RBI single in the third inning before launching a three-run jack off Antonio Senzatela in the following frame. Goldschmidt has now overtaken teammate Jake Lamb for the major league lead with 64 RBI and ranks second behind Aaron Judge in OPS. He’s hit .427 over 68 at-bats this month.
Jun 22 - 6:49 PM

Zack Godley allowed four hits and three runs over seven dominant innings Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ win over the Rockies.

Godly would be a good way to describe the right-hander’s performance. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts while yielding only one free pass in his first career start at Coors Field. Godley got off to a rocky start (no pun intended) by allowing hits to two of Colorado's first three batters, but he was lights out after that. The 27-year-old finished his outing by retiring 19 of the last 22 hitters he faced (including 13 straight at one point) and even chipped in with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Godley is now undefeated with a 2.59 ERA over his last five starts.
Jun 22 - 6:46 PM

Matt Shoemaker (forearm) will head back to Los Angeles to be reevaluated.

Shoemaker was hoping to return to the rotation Sunday against Boston, but obviously that's not happening. He must have overdone it by playing catch on Wednesday. Parker Bridwell will continue to start in his place.
Jun 22 - 5:56 PM

George Springer has been diagnosed with a left hand contusion.

His X-rays came back negative. Springer left Thursday's game after being struck by a 92 mph sinker from A's starter Jesse Hahn. The Astros are calling him day-to-day. Springer suffered a similar injury two years ago when he was hit by then-Royals starter Edinson Volquez. Jake Marisnick replaced Springer in center field on Thursday and should start there during his absence.
Jun 22 - 4:40 PM

Eduardo Nunez (hamstring) remained out of the Giants' lineup Thursday against the Braves.

It will be his sixth absence in the last seven games. Kelby Tomlinson will fill in at third base and bat leadoff Thursday against Braves lefty Jaime Garcia. Nunez is expected to test out his hamstring on Friday. If he's still not right, the Giants will likely place him on the disabled list. If Nunez does land on the DL, Conor Gillaspie would likely be called up to take his place.
Jun 22 - 4:27 PM

George Springer left Thursday's game against the A's after taking a pitch off his left hand.

A's starter Jesse Hahn struck Springer with the fifth pitch of the afternoon. The star center fielder looked to be in a good amount of pain as he walked off the field. There should be an update soon from Oakland.
Jun 22 - 3:43 PM

Angels activated RHP Huston Street from the 10-day disabled list.

Street is finally ready to rejoin the Angels after missing the first 11 weeks of the 2017 regular season with lat and shoulder injuries. He worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings Monday in his final rehab appearance with Triple-A Salt Lake. The veteran reliever could quickly work his way back into high-leverage action in Anaheim if he appears up for the task.
Jun 22 - 3:30 PM

Indians placed RHP Cody Allen on the paternity leave list.

Allen was excused from the club on Wednesday as his wife went into labor. Andrew Miller will continue to fill in as the Indians' ninth-inning man.
