Mike Napoli will start at first base in Game 6 of the World Series on Wednesday.

The full lineup for the Red Sox: Jacoby Ellsbury CF, Dustin Pedroia 2B, David Ortiz DH, Napoli 1B, Jonny Gomes LF, Shane Victorino RF, Xander Bogaerts 3B, Stephen Drew SS, David Ross C. John Lackey will be on the mound for Boston as they attempt to finish off the Cardinals.

Jake Arrieta was hit hard in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Pirates, yielding seven runs on 10 hits over five innings.

Arrieta has turned in a strong 2016 campaign on the whole, but his final start of the regular season left much to be desired. The Pirates burned the ace right-hander for a run in the first inning, then posted three-run frames in the fourth and fifth to drive him from the game. Arrieta finishes out the season holding a 3.10 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 190/76 K/BB ratio over 197 1/3 innings. The postseason now awaits as the Cubs attempt to bring a cathartic end to their title drought.

Chris Coghlan left Wednesday's game against the Pirates due to a mild left ankle sprain.

Coghlan injured himself when he ran into the outfield wall while tracking a fly ball in the fifth inning. He was subsequently replaced in left field by Albert Almora, but looks like he has avoided major injury. Consider Coghlan day-to-day moving forward.

Hyun-Jin Ryu underwent an arthroscopic left elbow debridement procedure on Wednesday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Prior to the procedure, Ryu had been pitching in simulated games as he attempted to work his way back from left elbow tendinitis. He is expected to be ready for the start of the 2017 season, but there's obviously nothing guaranteed here. The 29-year-old southpaw has made just one appearance over the last two years due to various shoulder, groin, and elbow injuries.

Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that manager Mike Matheny is safe.

There is near-constant clamoring from fans (and some in the media) about Matheny's lineups, bullpen management, and in-game strategy, but the Cardinals' higher-ups seem content with the fifth-year manager. "Mike’s done a really good job for us," DeWitt said. "There’s no thought that we’re going to go in any different direction." Matheny has guided the Cardinals to the postseason every year on the job, and they're in Wild Card contention here in late September. Matheny's overall managerial record since taking over for Hall of Fame skipper Tony La Russa is 457-348.

Lucas Duda has been scratched from Wednesday's game against the Marlins.

Duda was originally in the lineup, but when the Mets took the field it was James Loney who trotted over to first base. An update on Duda's status should be coming soon.
Sep 28 - 7:42 PM

Albert Pujols (foot) is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the A's.

Pujols has not played since Monday due to discomfort in his foot related to plantar fasciitis. Mike Trout will serve as the Angels' designated hitter on Wednesday while C.J. Cron mans first base. It is possible the veteran Pujols won't play again this season, but that has not yet been determined for certain.
Sep 28 - 7:02 PM

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said that Neftali Feliz (arm) is almost certainly done for the 2016 season.

No surprise here. Feliz was just recently cleared to throw off of flat ground as he continues to rehab from a bout of right arm discomfort. With mere days remaining in the regular season, a return to the major league mound would have been miraculous. The 28-year-old right-hander finishes out the 2016 season holding a 3.52 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 61/21 K/BB ratio over 53 2/3 frames.
Sep 28 - 6:46 PM

Adrian Gonzalez (sinus infection) is in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.

Gonzalez was lifted midway through Tuesday's contest due to a sinus infection. The ailment was not burdensome enough to require an additional day off, though. He is batting in his customary fourth spot on Wednesday.
Sep 28 - 6:34 PM

Gregory Polanco is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs due to a stiff neck.

Polanco's current neck stiffness could be related to a Friday collision with the outfield wall. Matt Joyce will start in his place in left field and is batting fourth.
Sep 28 - 6:30 PM

Starling Marte (back) is being held out of the lineup again as the Pirates face the Cubs on Wednesday.

Marte said on Tuesday that he is uncertain whether he will be able to start another game this season. He has been fighting through back tightness and back spasms for most of September. Josh Bell draws the start in right field and will bat second.
Sep 28 - 6:17 PM

Kyle Seager went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in the Mariners' 12-4 rout of the Astros on Wednesday.

Seattle's offense managed 15 hits and seven walks to down the 'Stros and stay alive in the American League Wild Card race. Seager singled in the Mariners' three-run first inning and then produced the final scoring of the game with a three-run shot off Pat Neshek in the top of the eighth. The star third baseman is slashing .281/.362/.506 with 30 home runs and 99 RBI in 154 games this season.
