Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports that talks between the Twins and Bronson Arroyo are "heating up."

Berardino adds that the Twins "have been examining Arroyo's medical records and are discussing guarantee language with his reps." The veteran right-hander would provide some much-needed stability for the Twins' rotation, as he's arguably the most durable pitcher in the game and has posted a sub-4.00 ERA four of the last five seasons.

Rusney Castillo is not in Wednesday's lineup due to a sore right shoulder.

Castillo banged up the shoulder while making a diving catch during Tuesday's game and couldn't get it loose Wednesday. The Red Sox think the ailment to be minor for now, so consider Casillo day-to-day. Brock Holt is in right field Wednesday.

Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports that the Red Sox are expected to promote pitching prospect Eduardo Rodriguez.

He'll get the ball on Thursday in Texas in what is expected to be just a spot start, but Rodriguez could certainly wind up getting a long-term look at some point. Ranked prior to the season by Baseball America as the No. 59 prospect in baseball, Rodriguez boasts a 2.98 ERA and 44/7 K/BB ratio over 48 1/3 innings at Triple-A Pawucket this season. He just turned 22 in April.

The Reds are shooting for Sunday against the Nationals for Johnny Cueto's (elbow) return to the rotation.

Cueto will play catch Wednesday before throwing a bullpen session Friday. If he feels good the next day on Saturday, he's expected to be cleared to take the ball Sunday. Cueto was cleared of any structural damage in his right elbow and the Reds hope he'll be fine after what would be 11 days of rest in between starts.
May 27 - 11:07 AM

Doug Fister (elbow) will resume a throwing program on Wednesday.

He'll first play catch from 60 feet before progressing to long-toss and then a bullpen session. The Nationals aren't setting a timetable for his return, but obviously they'll be careful after Fister was diagnosed with a flexor tendon strain. "The longer he’s off, the longer it will take tot get back," manager Matt Williams said. "But if he feels okay, it can be a fairly aggressive program to get throwing. They’ll start him 60 [feet], get him long toss, he’ll do flat ground, he’ll do bullpen, and be ready to go. It’s unclear at this point, but if he gets back in there and starts throwing, it’s a good sign."

Danny Duffy (biceps) will throw a bullpen session on Friday.

Duffy played catch on Tuesday and evidently felt well enough to resume mound work in a few days. Even though he appears to have made a rapid recovery, he still seems likely to need a rehab assignment before returning, especially with Jason Vargas having returned and Chris Young pitching well.

Tigers placed RHP Alfredo Simon on the bereavement list.

Simon has returned to his native Dominican Republic to be with his father, who is ill. The Tigers aren't sure when Simon will be back, but he seems likely to be ready for his next start. Kyle Ryan will fill in Wednesday.

Matt Kemp hit a bases-clearing double in the 10th inning to break a scoreless tie and send the Padres to a victory against the Angels on Tuesday.

Kemp made reliever Joe Smith pay for a single and two walks by clearing the bases with a double to left field. He scored not long after and finished the night 1-for-5. It marks his first multi-RBI game since April 29 as he has hit the skids offensively. Kemp is hitting .255/.291/.348 with only one home run and 25 RBI.
May 27 - 1:35 AM

Mike Pelfrey allowed just one run over seven innings of work Tuesday, helping the Twins to squeak by the Red Sox 2-1.

Pelfrey allowed a second inning RBI single by Mike Napoli, but he was otherwise stellar in the outing. The right-hander yielded just five hits and a walk in total, striking out four. The win ran his record to 4-1, and Pelfrey owns a 2.77 ERA and 1.25 WHIP through nine starts. He'll have a shot at duplicating his success when the two clubs square off again Monday at Fenway Park.
May 27 - 1:11 AM

David Price fired seven innings of scoreless baseball en route to a win on Tuesday against the Athletics.

Price scattered five hits -- four of which were singles -- and a walk while striking out three on the night. The Tigers' offense had opportunities to provide him more run support, but they were caught stealing in three of four attempts. Luckily, the one run was good enough to net Price the win. He's 4-1 now with a 2.97 ERA, a 1.17 WHIP, and a 57/14 K/BB ratio in 66 2/3 innings. Price finishes off a road trip against the Angels in his next start.
May 27 - 1:06 AM

Clayton Kershaw tossed seven scoreless innings to pick up the win on Tuesday versus the Braves.

As strange as it sounds, Tuesday's outing was Kershaw's first in which he held the opposition scoreless. Kershaw scattered only four hits while striking out 10 and issuing no walks. He entered the game with a .347 BABIP and a 4.32 ERA, suggesting some of his struggles may just be bad luck. Kershaw's ERA is down to 3.86 with a 1.16 WHIP and an 83/16 K/BB ratio over 65 1/3 innings. The lefty goes up against the Rockies at Coors Field in his next start.
May 27 - 12:50 AM

Brandon Belt hit his fifth home run of the season to help the Giants best the Brewers 6-3 on Tuesday.

Belt hit the solo shot off Corey Knebel in the seventh inning. The homer was the fourth in the first baseman's last 10 games. Belt is hitting .301/.375/.510 with 20 RBI and 22 runs scored this season.
