A National League general manager has indicated to the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo that Jose Bautista could be available via trade.

"It’s a name we’re hearing through back channels right now, but wouldn’t be surprised if he’s available" the GM said. Howard Eskin of FOX 29 TV and 94 WIP reported last week that the Phillies were nearing a deal for Bautista, but while that report was debunked, it does appear the slugger could be available. The Blue Jays would want pitching in return.

Edwin Encarnacion delivered the finest offensive day of his career in Saturday's 15-1 victory over the Tigers, blasting three home runs and tying a franchise record with nine RBI.

Encarnacion got the Jays on the board early with a three-run blast off Buck Farmer in the first inning. He then clobbered a two-run homer in the sixth inning off Guido Knudson in the sixth. To top things off, he tagged Alex Wilson for a grand slam in the seventh inning, wrapping up a historic afternoon. The third home run prompted the Jays' faithful to toss their hats onto the field in celebration. He also extended his hitting streak to 24 games and matched a club record with his third grand slam in a single season. He now has 29 homers and 90 RBI on the year.

Astros placed C Jason Castro on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quad.

Max Stassi was called up from Triple-A Fresno to take his roster spot. Castro suffered the injury in Friday's loss to Minnesota and will be out until mid-September. Castro has struck out in almost a third of his at-bats this season while slashing .220/.284/.395 with 11 homers and 30 RBI.

Miguel Sano (hamstring) is back in the Twins' starting lineup Saturday versus the Astros.

Sano sat out Friday as a precautionary measure due to some mild tightness in his right hamstring. He is at DH and batting cleanup against Houston left-hander Scott Kazmir.

Carlos Correa (hamstring) is out of the Astros' starting lineup Saturday against the Twins.

Correa has now missed two straight starts with discomfort in his left hamstring, but he told reporters before the game Saturday that he should be available off the bench. Marwin Gonzalez is starting at shortstop and hitting seventh.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York reports that the Mets are making progress toward acquiring another reliever.

While there's no guarantee that a deal gets done, Rubin notes that the talks are substantive and tangible. With Bobby Parnell on the disabled list and Jenrry Mejia suspended, the Mets could use another solid arm in the late innings, even after the addition of Tyler Clippard at the trade deadline.

Raisel Iglesias couldn't translate his 10 strikeouts into a win against the Brewers on Friday, as he allowed three runs on four hits over seven innings in the 5-0 defeat.

Iglesias struck out 10 Brewers and walked just two, but opposing starter Taylor Jungmann was just a tad bit better. Given that the Reds scored zero runs, Iglesias probably would have been stuck with a loss no matter what he did. He'll try to improve on his 3-6 record when he takes a 3.92 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 87/23 K/BB ratio (across 80 1/3 innings) into his next start, a Wednesday afternoon road outing against the Cubs.

Didi Gregorius posted a huge game in Friday's 15-4 win over the Braves, hitting a three-run homer and finishing with six total RBI.

Yowza yowza. Gregorius jumped into the action early with a three-run homer off Williams Perez in the first inning. He would add a two-run single in the second, then slouch off on the RBI binge until the eighth, when he hit an RBI single just for fun. When the dust settled, the Yankee shortstop had finished 4-for-5 with six RBI. This was his second four-hit game of the season and the six RBI represented a season high. For the year, he's slashing .260/.306/.355 with seven homers and 40 RBI.

Brian McCann went 1-for-2 with a three-run homer, four total RBI and three walks in Friday's 15-4 demolition of the Braves.

McCann joined the party late, but he at least brought a nice bottle of wine in the form of a three-run homer in the eighth inning. By season's end, the catcher's numbers--across the board--should surpass what he did in 2014. It's very likely that he'll end up setting personal-bests for home runs (he's hit 24 twice) and RBI (he drove in 94 in 2009). Right now, he's slashing .247/.319/.477 with 23 homers and 83 RBI.

Cole Hamels was magnificent in Friday's victory over the Orioles, racking up 10 strikeouts over eight innings of one-run ball.

Hamels allowed just two hits on the evening while walking four. The lone run against him came home on a bases loaded walk to Chris Davis in the third inning. It's his second straight victory with his new club, where he owns a 3.89 ERA and 33/13 K/BB ratio through 34 2/3 innings in his five starts. He'll look to extend his winning streak when he takes on the Padres in San Diego on Wednesday.
Aug 28 - 11:18 PM

Jung Ho Kang went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI as the Pirates topped the Rockies 5-3 on Friday.

Kang got the Bucs on the board with an RBI single in the first inning then extended their advantage with an RBI double in the third. What is turning out to be one of the best free agent acquisitions of the winter, Kang is hitting .294/.368/.463 with 12 homers and 48 RBI in what has been a fantastic rookie season.
Aug 28 - 10:39 PM

Aaron Nola was outstanding in Friday's victory over the Padres, scattering two hits and a pair of walks over seven innings of one-run ball.

Nola punched out six on the impressive evening. The only blemish on his night was a solo homer off the bat of Justin Upton in the fourth inning. It's the second straight brilliant outing for the young hurler who spun eight shutout innings against the Marlins his last time out. He'll look to further improve upon his 3.26 ERA and 1.07 WHIP when he takes on the Mets in New York on Wednesday.
