Sources have informed Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York that free agent second baseman Robinson Cano is still seeking a 10-year contract worth $310 million.

That's what Cano asked of the Yankees front office just before this year's All-Star break. New York declined and Cano is highly doubtful to land the record-smashing sum on the open market, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The 31-year-old hit .314/.383/.516 with 27 home runs and 107 RBI in 160 games this summer. He's being represented by Roc Nation Sports and Jay-Z is expected to be intimately involved in his contract negotiations.

According to MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan, the Rangers do not want to include Nomar Mazara in a trade for White Sox ace Chris Sale.

Reports suggest the White Sox are asking for Mazara on top of Jurickson Profar and Joey Gallo. That would be a massive haul for Chicago, and one they're probably not going to get. Mazara, 21, has batted .281/.334/.413 with 11 home runs, 37 RBI, and 38 runs scored over his first 88 major league games while playing very good defense in the outfield. Sale was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers following a clubhouse incident with members of the White Sox front office. It probably had something to do with all the trade rumors swirling around him.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick hears the Chris Sale clubhouse incident was with front office staff.

Crasnick says the incident began with something "silly" and blew up into a bigger argument. It did not get physical, per a press release from the club, but the words exchanged were serious enough to cause the White Sox to scratch their ace from his scheduled start Saturday night against the Tigers. Matt Albers is going to take the mound instead versus Detroit.
Jul 23 - 7:24 PM

Josh Reddick was scratched from the A's lineup on Saturday due to back soreness.

It sounds like a day-to-day type of thing. Reddick has posted a cool .295/.374/.433 batting line in 61 games this season and will be a big trade chip for the Athletics ahead of the August 1 non-waiver deadline. There is known to be interest from the Cubs.
Jul 23 - 7:19 PM

Diamondbacks pitching prospect Braden Shipley will be called up to make his major league debut Monday in Milwaukee.

Shipley will be filling in for Zack Greinke, who remains sidelined with an oblique injury. The former first-round draft pick (15th overall in 2013) has registered a 3.70 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 77/22 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings this season at Triple-A Reno. It's not clear whether he'll get another turn after Monday.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the White Sox are talking to teams about Chris Sale.

That's not exactly breaking news -- trade rumors have swirled around Sale for weeks -- but Passan's report is relevant because those discussions are ongoing even after the ace left-hander was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers because of a pregame clubhouse incident. We don't have any details about that incident, only that it was non-physical and did not cause an injury. This could be a very busy night for Sale's Rotoworld profile.
Jul 23 - 6:59 PM

Tyler Glasnow was pulled from his second major league start Saturday due to shoulder discomfort.

Shoulder troubles rarely end well, but there's no word yet as to the severity of this particular issue. Glasnow figures to see a specialist within the next couple of days. He gave up two runs in three-plus innings Saturday versus the Phillies, hitting two batters and walking three.
Jul 23 - 6:28 PM

Rich Hill (blister) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Sunday.

He'll wear a cover on his finger where a blister has developed and is refusing to go away -- that cover, by the way, can't be worn in a live game. The veteran left-hander lasted just five pitches in his first start out of the All-Star break, back on July 17. Hill is one of Oakland's better trade chips leading up to the August 1 deadline, but he obviously needs to get past this. There is no timetable for his return to the Athletics' rotation.
Jul 23 - 6:23 PM

Cameron Rupp is showing no concussion symptoms.

That's great news. Rupp was pulled from Saturday's game against the Pirates after taking a 91 mph fastball from Tyler Glasnow off the side of his batting helmet. The 27-year-old catcher entered the day with an impressive .810 OPS and 10 home runs in 62 games.
Jul 23 - 5:50 PM

Julio Teheran (lat) performed well in strength tests Saturday.

The hope is that Teheran -- a possible trade chip for the rebuilding Braves -- won't have to miss a rotation turn. He left his start Friday against the Rockies because of a minor lat strain. Look for a decision on Monday or Tuesday, after he throws a bullpen session.
Jul 23 - 5:41 PM

Joe Nathan will join the Cubs' bullpen Sunday.

Nathan walked three batters while recording only one out in his last appearance at Triple-A Iowa, but he had been very good before that outing and the Cubs feel the 41-year-old right-hander can offer an instant upgrade in middle relief. Nathan just finished rehabbing from his second Tommy John surgery. He hasn't pitched in a major league game since April 6, 2015.
Jul 23 - 5:39 PM

Lucas Giolito will return to the majors to start Sunday at home against the Padres.

It's a nice matchup for a talented pitcher, but it will likely be a spot start with Joe Ross (shoulder) nearing his return. Giolito allowed four earned runs in 7 2/3 innings (two starts) three weeks ago with Washington. Those were his first two MLB outings. Maybe he can force the Nationals to keep him on the major league roster if he dominates on Sunday.
