A general manager told ESPN's Jerry Crasnick that the White Sox are not shopping Chris Sale.

Chicago will listen to offers for its ace left-hander, but it'll take a massive return to actually pluck him away. Sale had an outstanding 3.07 ERA and 226/46 K/BB ratio in 214 1/3 innings this past season for the White Sox and is under club control through 2019 on a team-friendly contract. The Pale Hose would prefer to build around him.

Astros acquired OF Carlos Gomez and RHP Mike Fiers from the Brewers for OF Domingo Santana, OF Brett Phillips, LHP Josh Hader, RHP Adrian Houser and international bonus slot #76.

The dynamic 29-year-old outfielder was nearly traded to the Mets on Wednesday evening before the deal fell apart due to financial issues. Their loss, is a huge gain for the Astros though who will add another monster bat to an already dangerous lineup. In 74 games with the Brewers this season, Gomez was hitting .262/.328/.423 with eight homers, 43 RBI and seven stolen bases.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Astros have acquired Carlos Gomez and Mike Fiers from the Brewers.

The Brewers will net several prospects in the deal. Gomez was nearly traded to the Mets on Wednesday before the deal broke down over financial issues, and it appears that their loss is the Astros gain. It's a very strong move for the Astros and should put them as the favorites to capture the American League West.

Pirates acquired RHP Joakim Soria from the Tigers for SS JaCoby Jones.

While it's a major hit to the fantasy value for the veteran right-hander, he will bolster an already elite Pirates bullpen that boasts Tony Watson and Jared Hughes in front of closer Mark Melancon.

Justin Upton cracked a go-ahead three-run home run in the ninth inning of Thursday afternoon's 8-7 win over the Mets.

This will go down as one of the stranger games of the season. The Mets held a 7-1 lead after six innings. This advantage was dropped to two runs after Derek Norris hit a grand slam in the seventh inning. And then the ninth inning happened. Mets closer Jeurys Familia recorded the first two outs of the inning easily enough, at which point, a string of storms hit and delayed the game for 44 minutes. You can probably guess what happened next. Familia returned to the game after the long delay, allowed two singles, then served up a three-run homer to Upton to give the Padres an 8-7 lead. This would hold as the final score, though not before another delay of over an hour. The baseball deities must have really wanted to enjoy this epic collapse. Upton's name has been swirling in trade rumors for weeks, but he's still with the Padres and it's not a given that he'll be moved. He's struggled over the last two months, but has now homered twice and driven in six in his last two games.

Derek Norris hit a grand slam and finished a perfect 5-for-5 in Thursday afternoon's 8-7 win over the Mets.

Norris was integral to the Padres' comeback operation. Down 7-1 in the seventh inning, he stepped up with the bases loaded and smashed a grand slam off of Mets reliever Hansel Robles. That's not all. Following a rain delay of 44 minutes, the catcher singled with two outs in the ninth inning and would come around to score on a three-run homer by Justin Upton that gave the Padres the lead and win over the reeling Mets. Norris is slashing .238/.283/.407 with 12 homers and 49 RBI this season.

Jonathan Niese tossed a solid outing in a Thursday afternoon no-decision against the Padres, allowing one run on six hits over six innings.

Niese left the game holding a 7-1 lead after six innings. The bullpen would allow a whopping seven runs to lose said advantage, but Niese deserved better than an ND. He surrendered an RBI single to Matt Kemp in his final inning of work, but otherwise kept the Padres from touching home plate. After holding a 4.42 ERA on May 30, he's managed to work that down to a 3.63 mark through strong work in June and July. His 1.37 WHIP remains a touch on the high side and as the owner of an 80/36 K/BB ratio over 121 1/3 innings, the strikeouts aren't coming at a mind-blowing pace, but he holds value in deeper NL-only formats. A road date with the Marlins is up next on the lefty's schedule.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Pirates have agreed to a deal with the Tigers for Joakim Soria.

James Schmehl of MLive.com first reported the two sides were nearing a deal. It's unclear at the moment what the Tigers will receive in return. Soria will see his fantasy value take a major hit as he's relegated to a setup role behind Mark Melancon.

Devon Travis received a cortisone shot in his left shoulder on Wednesday.

Travis left Tuesday's game after aggravating the injury. He's slated to rest Thursday before being reevaluated Friday, so a decision about a stint on the disabled list could be made at that time.

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Orioles are interested in Yoenis Cespedes.

The Orioles are just one game back for a Wild Card spot and could really use a bat, but they might not have enough in their farm system to outbid other contenders. They also might not be willing to give a top prospect for a rental.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the White Sox are interested in Padres outfielder Justin Upton and Tigers outfielder Yoenis Cespedes.

Such a scenario would have been unthinkable just a couple of weeks ago, but the White Sox have played much better of late and currently sit just 2 1/2 games back for a Wild Card spot. Both Upton and Cespedes would merely be rentals, but either could make a huge difference in the lineup for the suddenly-surging South Siders.

Yankees acquired OF/INF Dustin Ackley from the Mariners for OF Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez.

The Mariners selected Ackley with the No. 2 overall pick in 2009, but things never quite came together for him in Seattle, as he produced a disappointing .243/.306/.366 batting line over 584 games. The Yankees will have to hope that the change of scenery will make a difference for him. He could be a possibility to get some looks at second base over Stephen Drew.
