CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Red Sox "have determined Matt Kemp isn't a fit at this time."

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi has reported that the Tigers are "unlikely" to land Kemp, so that leaves the Rangers and Mariners as the main suitors for the outfielder. The Dodgers are willing to eat part of Kemp's contract as long as they receive ample talent in return.

Jorge Soler is not in the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday night against the Cardinals.

It's a day of mental and physical rest for Soler, who's sporting an underwhelming .269/.337/.409 batting line with 38 strikeouts in 23 games this season. Chris Denorfia is starting in right field and Chris Coghlan is batting second Monday against Cardinals right-hander Carlos Martinez.
May 4 - 3:29 PM

Padres purchased the contract of C Austin Hedges from Triple-A El Paso.

Hedges carries a tremendous defensive reputation and was off to a promising start offensively this season at Triple-A, but he's a .256/.316/.390 career hitter in the minors. The 22-year-old probably won't carry much fantasy value in his first taste of the major league level. Derek Norris remains the primary backstop in San Diego.
May 4 - 3:25 PM

Jean Segura (head) is out of the Brewers' starting lineup on Monday night versus the Dodgers.

Not a surprise after he took a Pedro Strop fastball off his helmet on Sunday afternoon. Segura passed a CT scan, but he probably won't have a very active week. Hector Gomez is starting at shortstop Monday in what will be Craig Counsell's first game as Milwaukee's manager. Clayton Kershaw is on the bump for the Dodgers.
May 4 - 3:14 PM

Anthony Rendon (knee, side) is not in the lineup at Double-A Harrisburg on Monday.

He has now missed three straight games at Harrisburg with oblique discomfort. Rendon had been aiming to return from his late-spring knee sprain before the end of April, but he can now be ruled out for another week at least. If it's an oblique strain that he's dealing with -- as opposed to just discomfort -- Rendon might not debut until mid-to-late May.
May 4 - 3:01 PM

Indians manager Terry Francona said Nick Swisher (knees) will be activated from the disabled list Tuesday.

Tyler Holt will be optioned to Triple-A Columbus to open a spot on the Indians' 25-man roster. Swisher missed all of April while rehabbing from dual knee surgeries. He batted just .208/.278/.331 with eight home runs and 42 RBI in 97 games last season for the Indians and the 34-year-old seems doubtful to carry significant value this summer in standard fantasy leagues.
May 4 - 2:38 PM

Craig Counsell has been officially named the Brewers' manager on a three-year contract.

Ron Roenicke was let go on Sunday night, but it sure seems like this change has been in the works for some time. Most teams would name a new manager and give him interim status, but the Brewers have gone ahead and committed three years to Counsell, who carries no previous managerial experience. Counsell played 16 seasons in the majors -- six for Milwaukee -- and had been working as a special assistant to Brewers GM Doug Melvin for the last four seasons. He's a graduate of Notre Dame.
May 4 - 11:22 AM

Matt Moore (elbow) threw 26 pitches of live batting practice Sunday morning at Tropicana Field.

It was his first time facing live hitters since tearing the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow last April. "It felt really good to be back out there," said Moore, who is hoping to be fully recovered from Tommy John surgery by the end of June. The 25-year-old boasts a 3.53 ERA and 8.8 K/9 in 347 career major league innings.
May 4 - 8:53 AM

Brett Gardner went 2-for-6 with a homer and three RBI, powering the Yankees to an 8-5 victory over the Red Sox on Sunday.

Gardner also scored a pair of runs and swiped two bases in the impressive evening. His three-run shot off Craig Breslow in the sixth inning put the Bombers ahead 8-0 at the time and proved to be the difference in the ballgame. Gardner has been very impressive in the early going, slashing .320/.400/.453 with two homers, 13 RBI and eight swipes.
May 4 - 12:04 AM

Yasmani Grandal blasted a walkoff home run leading off the 13th inning on Sunday, propelling the Dodgers to a 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks.

Grandal entered the game as a pinch-hitter when he drew a walk for A.J. Ellis in the tenth inning. His only official at-bat in the contest was his game-winning blast off Evan Marshall in the 13th inning. He's now hitting .230/.356/.377 with two homers and three RBI on the season.
May 3 - 8:18 PM

Tim Lincecum pitched eight innings of shutout baseball against the Angels on Sunday, allowing just three hits and striking out four in the 5-0 win.

Lincecum jumped into the time machine and came out pitching his best game of the season. The Angels only managed three singles in the entire contest. With the shutout, Lincecum lowered his ERA to 2.40. He holds a 1.23 WHIP and has a 20/11 K/BB ratio over 30 innings. The last time he posted an ERA lower than 4.37 was in 2011, so we're at least a little dubious of his early numbers. He'll try to keep the time machine warm for his next outing, a home start against the Marlins.
May 3 - 8:14 PM

Stephen Vogt hit home runs in back-to-back innings against the Rangers on Sunday, finishing the game with four RBI.

Vogt hit a solo home run off of Yovani Gallardo in the sixth inning, then topped himself the next inning, slugging a three-run shot off Alex Claudio. He finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, four RBI and two walks. The big game gives Vogt six home runs for the season and 20 RBI. He's hitting a sterling .356/.455/.671 in his first season as the A's full-time catcher.
