ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Yankees touched base with free agent right-hander Bronson Arroyo last week.

While the Yankees are a possibility, their first priority appears to be Masahiro Tanaka assuming he ends up being posted. Contrary to a recent report, Arroyo says that the Reds have not offered him a one-year deal. Meanwhile, the veteran right-hander denies that he has ever been close to signing with the Twins. While Arroyo's market is a bit of a mystery at the moment, Crasnick names the Angels, Orioles and Diamondbacks among the other potential fits.

Phillies placed OF Peter Bourjos on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder sprain.

That will obviously kill off any trade value he might have had. Bourjos suffered the injury on Tuesday night while robbing Ichiro Suzuki of a base hit and could be sidelined until September. Aaron Altherr has been activated in a corresponding roster move.

Reds president Walt Jocketty said Thursday that he hasn't received a great offer for Jay Bruce.

"Clubs inquire about certain players, but they never want to trade you anything," Jocketty told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "So what’s the point? You wouldn’t believe some of the stuff." We'd expect those offers to improve over the next couple of days as the August 1 trade deadline approaches. Bruce, 29, boasts an .895 OPS with 25 home runs and 79 RBI in 95 games this season for Cincinnati. He carries a $13 million team option for 2017.

White Sox reinstated LHP Chris Sale from suspension.

Sale was handed a five-game suspension from the White Sox on Sunday after taking a knife to throwback jerseys that he did not want to wear. The incident led to the White Sox scratching him from his scheduled start Saturday against the Tigers, so he'll be working on nine days of rest in his return Thursday versus the Cubs.

Craig Kimbrel (knee) is on track to rejoin the Red Sox on Monday.

Kimbrel will throw one inning in a minor league rehab game Saturday and should be cleared for activation if all goes well in that outing. He has been on the shelf since undergoing a left knee arthroscopy and a partial medial meniscectomy just before the All-Star break. Brad Ziegler is filling in at closer for Boston.

Ryan Braun was scratched from the Brewers' lineup on Thursday due to right side tightness.

He is considered day-to-day for now. Ramon Flores will switch from right field to left field and Kirk Nieuwenhuis will draw the start in right versus Arizona.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell said Jonathan Lucroy is getting a scheduled day of rest Thursday.

The trade buzz began swirling when Milwaukee's lineup card for Thursday afternoon's game against the Diamondbacks showed Martin Maldonado at catcher instead of Lucroy, but there's nothing to see here. Yet. Lucroy is reportedly drawing interest from the Rangers, Indians, Astros, Mets, and Red Sox, and will almost certainly be dealt before the August 1 deadline.

Marlins reinstated 2B Dee Gordon from suspension.

Gordon will return to the Marlins' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Cardinals after missing the last 80 games while serving out a performance-enhancing suspension. He didn't hit the ball very well on his minor league rehab assignment, but the 28-year-old second baseman is obviously capable of having a huge fantasy impact down the stretch this season. Derek Dietrich will be shifted into more of a utility role.

Jose Reyes (intercostal) is doubtful for Friday.

Reyes was diagnosed with a Grade 1 intercostal strain on Tuesday afternoon and is still dealing with some discomfort. Mets manager Terry Collins said he's not considering a disabled list stint at this point because the club has a string of games in American League parks next week. That would allow Reyes to DH, but it does seem like an odd strategy considering the veteran infielder suffered the injury on a swing.

Yoenis Cespedes is out of the Mets' lineup Thursday because he had a flareup with his quad.

Cespedes missed a chunk of time earlier this month with a quad strain, and now it's rearing its ugly head again. Consider him day-to-day for now. Alejandro De Aza is in left field and Juan Lagares is in center field on Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Royals are trying to package Ian Kennedy in a Wade Davis trade, with the Dodgers "a strong match."

Los Angeles badly wants Davis, as reported earlier by Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, and the club has deep enough pockets to comfortably take on what remains on the ill-advised five-year, $70 million free agent contract that Kennedy received this winter from Kansas City. Kennedy has been a big disappointment in his first year with the Royals, currently holding a 4.41 ERA through 20 starts. He could eat some innings for a contender, but that's probably about it.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are "trying hard" for Andrew Cashner.

Baltimore badly needs rotation help -- Ubaldo Jimenez and his 7.38 ERA are starting Thursday against the Twins -- and Cashner is almost certain to be dealt somewhere by the August 1 trade deadline. Rosenthal says the O's are not necessarily the front-runner for the 29-year-old right-hander, with the Rangers, Marlins, and Giants also lurking. Cashner, an impending free agent, owns a 4.76 ERA, 1.39 WHIP, and 67/30 K/BB ratio in 79 1/3 innings this season.
