Jordan Zimmermann (groin) will try to throw long-toss on Friday.

And if it goes well, he could try throwing off a mound on Sunday. Zimmermann was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain of his right groin muscle after making an early exit from his start Sunday against the Rays. A disabled list stint is still a real possibility.

Rockies activated LHP Jorge De La Rosa from the 15-day disabled list.

De La Rosa will return to the Rockies' starting rotation Tuesday night at Fenway Park after missing the last four weeks with a strained left groin. The veteran southpaw had a 10.18 ERA and 2.07 WHIP over his first five appearances this season and makes for an awful fantasy streaming option against the dangerous Boston offense.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said Justin Upton (quad) probably won't play Wednesday either.

Upton was a late scratch Monday and is being held out again Tuesday due to tightness in his right quad. Ausmus said the team is just trying to be cautious. Upton, signed to a six-year, $132.75 million free agent contract this winter, is batting just .223/.270/.319 with 66 strikeouts over his first 178 plate appearances for Detroit.

Rougned Odor is batting leadoff in the Rangers' starting lineup Tuesday versus Anaheim.

Odor had an appeal hearing for his eight-game suspension on Tuesday afternoon, but the Rangers aren't expecting a ruling to come down before the start of Tuesday night's game against the visiting Angels. The second baseman was issued the suspension (and a fine) for his role in last Sunday's brawl with the Blue Jays. Odor got a clean shot to the face of Jose Bautista after Bautista slid hard into him at the second base bag.

Kevin Kiermaier underwent surgery Tuesday to repair two fractures in his left hand.

Kiermaier broke two metacarpal bones in his glove hand Saturday while trying to rob James McCann of a hit and is expected to be sidelined for the next 8-10 weeks. Mikie Mahtook started in center field on Monday night and Brandon Guyer drew the nod there Tuesday afternoon. Tampa Bay can feature a number of different looks, but Kiermaier is one of the best defenders in baseball at any position. It's a huge loss.
May 24 - 4:08 PM

David Wright is out of the Mets' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Nationals.

Ty Kelly will start at third base and bat eighth versus Nationals right-hander Stephen Strasburg. It's just a routine day of maintenance for the veteran Wright.
May 24 - 3:38 PM

Carlos Gomez (rib cage) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Corpus Christi.

Gomez landed on the disabled list earlier this month with a bruised left rib cage. He's not eligible to return until the beginning of June, but getting a bunch of at-bats in the minors isn't the worst idea for him. He's batting just .182 with a .486 OPS in 34 games this season.
May 24 - 3:25 PM

Travis Shaw (hand) is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Rockies.

Shaw is currently dealing with a minor injury to his left hand is considered day-to-day. Josh Rutlege is filling in at third base.
May 24 - 3:10 PM

Pirates placed RHP Ryan Vogelsong on the 15-day disabled list with facial fractures.

The move comes after Vogelsong was hit in the head by a pitch during Monday's game against the Rockies. The specifics aren't yet known, but Pirates trainer Todd Tomczyk said that he suffered an injury to his left eye, including the orbital bone around it. There's no clear timetable for his return.
May 24 - 2:30 PM

Jason Heyward (ribs) has returned to the Cubs' starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the Cardinals.

This confirms what Cubs manager Joe Maddon said during a radio appearance Tuesday. Heyward ended up missing three starts due to a contusion on his right side. The 26-year-old is batting just .225/.329/.282 through his first 37 games this season. He'll bat second against his former team on Tuesday.
May 24 - 2:19 PM

Jung Ho Kang (hand) is back in Tuesday's lineup against the Diamondbacks.

Kang missed back-to-back starts after leaving Saturday's game with a jammed left hand, but he's feeling better now. He'll bat cleanup against right-hander Shelby Miller.
