Korea's LG Twins have signed Cory Riordan.

A former sixth-round pick, Riordan's career in the states was going nowhere, as he posted a 6.17 ERA over 89 frames this past season as a 27-year-old between Double- and Triple-A. He'll now see if he can have better luck overseas.

Billy Hamilton (Achilles) will return to game action this weekend.

Hamilton hasn't played since last weekend due to some minor Achilles soreness, although he said he would be playing if it were the regular season. Obviously his legs are the most important part of his game, so we can't take this lightly. However, it sounds like Hamilton should be fine.

Adrian Gonzalez (elbow) is back in the Dodgers' lineup Friday.

Gonzalez has dealt with an elbow issue on and off during camp, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go again. The first baseman has been limited to just 10 Cactus League plate appearances this spring, but he also got 12 at-bats during the World Baseball Classic.
Mar 24 - 12:46 PM

Carlos Rodon was scratched from Friday's start and will undergo an MRI due to tightness in his left biceps.

Uh oh. The White Sox don't seem to think Rodon has any structural damage, but he's probably going to miss the first couple starts of the season, anyway. The left-hander was already being eased into things this spring as he was prepped for an increased workload in 2017, so he's not totally built up yet. Obviously, more will be known once the exam results are revealed.

Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated Friday that Jhonny Peralta will be the team's starting third baseman and Jedd Gyroko will be a utility infielder.

It's been the expectation since the beginning of camp. It ultimately probably doesn't matter much which of the two is the "starter" at third base, as both Peralta and Gyorko are going to play a lot. Gyorko, who led the Cards with 30 homers last season, figures to handle second base versus lefties.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Friday that it's looking more and more likely that Collin McHugh (arm) will get a late start to the season.

McHugh has been battling through a "dead arm" phase and hasn't made any Grapefruit League appearances this spring. He pitched in a minor league game Wednesday and is set to throw in another one Monday, so the Astros would be able to backdate a disabled list stint. The right-hander should be ready to rejoin the rotation sometime in April.
Mar 24 - 11:21 AM

Astros manager A.J. Hinch announced Friday that Dallas Keuchel will be the team's Opening Day starter.

The only thing that would've prevented this is Keuchel showing up to camp with his shoulder still bothering him as it did last season. Instead, he's said he feels great and it's shown with a 1.50 ERA over three Grapefruit League outings. Keuchel should be in line for a bounce-back season if he can stay healthy.

LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins will meet with Jose Berrios on Friday and there's a "good chance" they'll tell him he won't make the Opening Day roster.

It sounds like Berrios playing for Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic hurt his chances of cracking the rotation, as he didn't pitch much and still needs to build his endurance up. It's a discouraging development for a guy who has disappointed in his big league chances so far but who still holds plenty of upside. Berrios should get his opportunity in the rotation before long, though. Tyler Duffey, Justin Haley, Adalberto Mejia and Nick Tepesch look to be the last men standing in the competition for the final spot in the Twins' rotation. Mejia (1.88 ERA, 14/4 K/BB ratio over 14 1/3 innings) has had easily the best camp of the group.

According to Sung Min Kim, reports out of Korea are stating that Jung Ho Kang has been denied a work visa to enter the United States.

The report also states that there is suspicion Kang was convicted of drunk driving in a third country other than Korea and the United States. Kang was given an eight-month suspended sentence earlier this month as a result of his third DUI arrest in Korea. Kim says that with this latest news, Kang's chances of playing for the Pirates this season "got cloudy." The Pirates should have an update on the third baseman later Friday. David Freese will be the club's regular at the hot corner for as long as Kang is away.

Yonder Alonso went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI and three runs scored as the Athletics trounced the Brewers 15-5 on Thursday.

He drilled a two-run shot off Brewers ace Junior Guerra in the second inning, then took him yard again with a solo blast in the third frame. Alonso is now batting .382 with four homers and 11 RBI in 34 at-bats. He figures to split time at first base and designated hitter this season. He has an unappealing .253/.316/.367 career slash line with a paltry 39 home runs in 2343 plate appearances spread over 664 games.
Mar 23 - 9:05 PM

Chris Archer has been announced as the Rays' Opening Day starter.

He'll get the nod at home April 2 against the Yankees. This will be Archer's third straight Opening Day start. The rest of Tampa Bay's rotation will follow in this order: Jake Odorizzi, Alex Cobb, Blake Snell and Matt Andriese. Even in a down year, Archer still finished second in the AL with 233 strikeouts last season. Look for him to bounce back in 2017.
Mar 23 - 8:52 PM

Junior Guerra was plastered for 12 runs -- seven earned -- in 3 2/3 innings against the Athletics on Thursday.

He gave up 10 hits and watched in shock as four of them flew over the outfield wall. It was just one of those days where nothing worked. Prior to today Guerra had allowed just two runs in 10 innings. He was the biggest surprise breakout of the 2016 season, turning in a 2.81 ERA in 20 starts as a 31-year-old rookie. Despite today's beatdown he will likely take the hill on Opening Day for the Brewers.
