Braves avoided arbitration with LHP Mike Minor by agreeing to a one-year, $3.85 million contract.

Minor qualified for arbitration eligibility this winter as a Super Two player. He earned the large raise after putting together a 3.21 ERA and 1.09 WHIP to go along with 181 strikeouts over 204 2/3 frames last season. The southpaw will have to be a key piece again in 2014 if the Braves want to repeat as NL East champs.

Astros activated OF Carlos Gomez from the 15-day disabled list.

Gomez, who has been out since May 15 with a bruised left rib cage, will make his return Tuesday. The 30-year-old went 5-for-20 (.250) with a homer over five games during his minor league rehab assignment with Double-A Corpus Christi. He was batting just .182/.238/.248 over 34 games prior to the injury. The Astros and fantasy owners are hoping that the time off did him some good.

Twins recalled OF Byron Buxton from Triple-A Rochester.

Buxton will return to the majors after Danny Santana hit the disabled list with a hamstring injury. The 22-year-old hasn't hit so far in the majors, but he batted .336/.403/.603 with six homers, four steals, and a 26/11 K/BB ratio over 129 plate appearances after his demotion to Triple-A last month. He's no sure thing to succeed this time around, but it's not like the other internal options are all that exciting. The last-place Twins should just let him play.
May 31 - 10:41 AM

Red Sox activated LHP Eduardo Rodriguez from the 15-day disabled list.

Rodriguez, who injured his knee during spring training, will finally make his season debut Tuesday against the Orioles. The 23-year-old tossed seven innings of one-run ball with a 7/1 K/BB ratio in his final minor league rehab start last week. He showed some promise as a rookie last season, but most fantasy owners can afford to see how he fares for his first start or two before making him active.
May 31 - 10:35 AM

Daniel Murphy went 3-for-4 with his eighth homer and 15th double to lead the Nationals past the Phillies 4-3 on Monday.

Murphy has been on fire since day one this year, and he shows no signs of slowing down. He's already more than half way to his career high of 14 homers, and his 1.047 OPS is 278 points higher than his career mark of .769 with the Mets.
May 30 - 10:23 PM

Bryce Harper is day-to-day with a right knee contusion.

Harper was forced to exit Monday's game against the Phillies after he was hit in the right knee by a pitch from Jeremy Hellickson. It doesn't sound like a major concern, but the Nationals will see how he feels on Tuesday.
May 30 - 10:20 PM

Jeff Locke pitched a three-hitter for his first career complete game as the Pirates drubbed the Marlins 10-0 on Monday.

Locke hadn't completed any of his previous 100 major league starts. The left-hander was looking like the obvious choice to be bounced from the Pirates rotation when the team promoted Jameson Taillon or Tyler Glasnow, but this certainly complicates things a bit. He lowered his ERA from 5.08 to 4.33 tonight. That's better than what Jon Niese (4.42), Francisco Liriano (4.63) or Juan Nicasio (4.79 (or 4.21 if Andrew McCutchen hadn't whined about an error) have done.
May 30 - 10:06 PM

Ian Desmond doubled and ripped a two-run homer in Monday's victory over the Indians.

Desmond's two-run shot two batters into the game proved to be a hint at what was to come for the Rangers' offense, as they pounded out nine runs over the first four innings. The shortstop-turned-left-fielder-turned-center-fielder has been a beast in May, sporting a .345/.371/.527 batting line with three home runs, 18 RBI and six stolen bases.
May 30 - 9:07 PM

Marlon Byrd went 4-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

The Indians had a couple longballs in this one, but unfortunately for them they were pretty meaningless. After the Rangers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the top of the fourth, Mike Napoli smashed a long solo shot in the sixth and Byrd added a blast to left in the seventh. Byrd will turn 39 in August but has remained pretty productive, hitting .270/.328/.459 with five homers and 19 RBI.
May 30 - 9:01 PM

Collin McHugh went the distance against the Diamondbacks on Monday allowing three runs while striking out eight in an 8-3 victory.

It wasn't the prettiest outing as far as complete games go, as McHugh served up a couple home runs among the three runs he yielded. However, he also walked just one to go along with his eight punchouts and at Chase Field it was certainly an impressive effort. It's baby steps, but McHugh boasts a 26/3 K/BB ratio over his last 21 1/3 innings. He faces the A's at home this weekend.
May 30 - 8:28 PM

Adam Duvall had his first career two-homer day in Monday's win over the Rockies.

There were seven home runs hit on the day, which is no surprise in a matchup of two mediocre starters at Coors Field. Both of Duvall's longballs went to the opposite field, as he took Chad Bettis deep with a two-run shot in the fourth and then added a solo blast off of Jake McGee in the ninth. Duvall has now homered 11 times this month and 13 times on the season, emerging as a legitimate power bat for the Reds.
May 30 - 8:00 PM

Joey Votto smashed career home run No. 200 in Monday's slugfest victory over the Rockies.

Votto took Jason Motte deep in the seventh inning with a shot to right field. He also nearly had a grand slam in previous at-bat, as a drive in the fourth inning landed on the warning track and then bounced over the fence for a two-RBI, ground-rule double. Votto's production has been way down this season, as he's sporting a .213/.332/.391 batting line. However, he's hit safely in five out of his last six contests and has a couple dingers over that stretch.
