Vinnie Pestano lost his arbitration hearing against the Indians and was awarded a $975,000 salary for 2014.

The 28-year-old reliever had requested a figure of $1.45 million from the Tribe. He'll continue to function in a setup capacity in front of the team's new closer, John Axford. His fantasy value will be minimal though unless he can work his way into save chances.

Rays activated OF Kevin Kiermaier from the 60-day disabled list.

Kiermaier is starting in center field and batting leadoff on Tuesday night against the Astros after missing a little over two months with a torn ligament in his right thumb. Nationals recalled RHP Jefry Rodriguez from Triple-A Syracuse.

Rodriguez is set to make his first major league start on Tuesday night against the Orioles. He has good swing-and-miss stuff and makes for an intriguing deep-league fantasy streaming option versus the strikeout-prone Baltimore lineup. But this will likely be a spot start only for the 24-year-old right-hander.

Nationals placed 1B Matt Adams on the 10-day disabled list with a fractured left index finger.

Adams was struck on the hand while attempting to bunt on Friday, and it took a couple of days for the Nats to discover the small fracture. It's unclear how long he will be sidelined. The left-handed-hitting first baseman boasts a .275/.351/.575 batting line with 13 home runs and 36 RBI in 57 games this season with Washington.

Austin Meadows is dealing with a sore right foot.

Meadows fouled a ball off that foot on Sunday and has been held out of the Pirates' starting lineup in two consecutive games.
