Mark Mulder suffered a ruptured left Achilles while doing agility drills, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

The Angels aren't anticipating the results of an MRI until Sunday, but if DiGiovanna's report is true, it's a huge blow to Mulder's comeback chances -- the injury takes months to recover from, and it's likely his season is over before it began. The 36-year-old signed a minor league contract with the Angels in January. He hasn't thrown in a major league game since 2008.

Michael Conforto went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs in Friday's 7-5 win over the Mariners.

Conforto socked a solo home run off Ariel Miranda in the third inning and repeated the feat against Mike Rzepczynski in the eighth. This was the 24-year-old outfielder's fourth multi-homer game of the campaign. He has been crushing it to the tune of a .291/.398/.586 triple-slash with 21 homers and 54 RBI over the course of 85 games played this season.

Michael Wacha fired six scorleless innings in a 1-0 victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Wacha held the D-Backs to just three hits while walking one batter and striking out five. He found himself in trouble in the sixth inning, but he managed to strike out David Peralta swinging with two on to end his night. He’s won five out of his last six starts and sits at 8-4 with a 3.71 ERA on the year. He’ll try to keep it going in an NL Central showdown against the Brewers next week.

Corey Seager went 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 6-4 win over the Giants.

Seager clocked a solo homer off Matt Moore with one out in the first inning, but it was his dramatic go-ahead two-run shot in the seventh which truly changed the course of the game. That dinger snapped a 4-4 tie and propelled the Dodgers to a win over their division rivals. For the campaign as a whole, the young shortstop is hitting a sturdy .293/.385/.5l6 with 18 homers and 53 RBI across 94 games played.

Adrian Beltre continued his chase for 3,000 career hits on Friday against the Orioles by going 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI singles and a run scored.

Beltre had a broken-bat bloop single in the third inning and a single up the middle in the fifth. By going 9-for-14 over his last four games, he’s now just two hits shy of becoming the 31st player to reach 3,000 career hits. History is right around the corner for the future Hall of Famer.

Nationals acquired INF/OF Howie Kendrick from the Phillies for LHP McKenzie Mills and international bonus pool money.

The 34-year-old was set to be a free agent at season's end, so it was wise of the Phillies to flip him for whatever they could get. He should fit in very nicely in a utility role with the Nationals. He's hitting .340/.397/.454 with two homers, 16 RBI and eight stolen bases in 156 plate appearances this season.
Jul 29 - 12:12 AM

Brent Suter fired seven scoreless frames in a 2-1 victory over the Cubs on Friday.

It was the longest outing of his career. The soft-tossing lefty allowed just four hits — all of them singles — while walking one and striking out five. He worked fast and was very efficient, throwing 54 out of his 82 pitches for strikes. He now owns a 1.50 ERA over five starts while filling in for Chase Anderson in the rotation. We suspect the league will catch up to him eventually, but he’s been quite a find for Milwaukee so far.

Mets acquired RHP A.J. Ramos from the Marlins for RHP Merandy Gonzalez and OF Ricardo Cespedes.

It's a very interesting move for the Mets who are sellers at this season's trade deadline. Ramos is under team control through the 2018 season though and should immediately take over the role in New York with Addison Reed on the trade block. He'd presumably move into a set-up role once Jeurys Familia is ready to return. Ramos owns a 3.63 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 47/22 K/BB ratio across 39 2/3 innings in 2017.

Josh Reddick launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning on Friday, propelling the Astros to a 6-5 victory over the Tigers.

Reddick delivered the club's first two runs with sacrifice flies in the first and third innings. He then clubbed the game-changing blast off of Bruce Rondon in the eighth, turning a 5-3 deficit into a 6-5 advantage. Reddick has been a tremendous free agent addition, slashing .307/.350/.498 with 10 homers and 53 RBI.
Jul 28 - 11:49 PM

Mike Moustakas connected for a three-run homer in Friday’s 4-2 victory over the Red Sox.

His three-run blast off Rick Porcello in the fourth inning ended up being the difference in the ballgame. Moustakas is now up to 30 homers on the year to go along with a .279/.308/.568 batting line. Keep in mind that he never hit more than 22 homers in a season coming into 2017. He’s having a heck of a walk year.
Jul 28 - 10:42 PM

Aaron Altherr blasted a pair of home runs on Friday, powering the Phillies to a 10-3 victory over the Braves.

He finished the night 2-for-3 plus a walk. Altherr clubbed a solo homer off of Julio Teheran in the fifth inning then victimized Jason Hursh in the eighth. He has been one of the best hitters on the Phillies this season, slashing .294/.365/.566 with 16 homers and 46 RBI.
Jul 28 - 10:26 PM

Masahiro Tanaka struck out a career-high 14 batters over eight innings of one-run ball in a 6-1 victory over the Rays on Friday.

Tanaka was perfect until Adeiny Hechavarria singled with two outs in the fifth inning. The lone run scored on a solo homer off the bat of new Rays slugger Lucas Duda in the seventh. Tanaka didn’t issue a walk and had 21 swings and misses in his 109 pitches. It’s been an up-and-down year for him, but the Yankees would love to see more of this version of him as they push for a postseason berth. Tanaka will bring a 5.09 ERA into a start against the Tigers next week.
