Indians and RHP Justin Masterson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $9.7625 million contract.

Masterson requested $11.8 million and was offered $8.05 million from the Indians when arbitration figures were exchanged last month, so the two sides settled for a little under the midpoint. The 28-year-old was scheduled to head to Florida on Tuesday afternoon for a hearing, but the two sides were able to hammer out a last-minute agreement. He's entering his contract year.

Orioles re-signed OF Michael Bourn to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that Bourn will receive $2 million if in the majors, and ESPN's Jerry Crasnick adds that the deal includes a March 25 opt-out. The 34-year-old hasn't had an effective full season in a while, but he played well in his brief time with the Orioles last year with a .283/.358/.435 with two home runs, eight RBI and two steals in 24 games. Bourn will compete for a reserve outfielder role.

Dodgers signed OF Franklin Gutierrez to a one-year, $2.6 million contract.

The deal was reported over a week ago and has finally become official. Gutierrez, who can make an additional $400,000 through incentives, has batted .265/.339/.520 with 29 home runs over the last two seasons in a platoon role. He cranked 20 of those 29 dingers over just 329 plate appearances versus lefties and should continue to be a weapon against southpaws when healthy.

An MRI on Josh Donaldson's right calf revealed only a mild strain.

Donaldson tweaked his calf while running sprints last Friday, but the Blue Jays think they've dodged a bullet here. "It's not a significant [strain]," general manager Ross Atkins said Monday. "So we're optimistic that he'll be back on his feet and moving pretty quickly." Barring a setback, the star third baseman should be fine come Opening Day.

Johnny Cueto (family) still has not reported to Giants camp.

His father is ill and the Giants have allowed him to stay home in the Dominican Republic for as long as he needs, but the first round of the World Baseball Classic may now be in doubt. Cueto is throwing bullpen sessions and streaming them for members of the Giants coaching staff, but his first WBC start is supposed to be on March 5. That may be cutting it too close.

According to Mike Puma of the New York Post, "the feeling from the Mets side is the Neil Walker contract extension discussions are probably dead."

Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reported on Sunday that the two sides were making progress on a contract extension that would potentially run through 2019, but it sounds like there wound up being a big gap in the financial expectations. Walker will make $17.2 million in 2017 after accepting the Mets' one-year qualifying offer in early November. He is scheduled to become a free agent next winter.

Nationals GM Mike Rizzo told Fantasy Sports Radio on Monday that Shawn Kelley, Blake Treinen, and Koda Glover are competing to be the team's closer.

Rizzo also said that he's had no recent trade talks for relief help, so the job will probably go to one of these three. Kelley figures to be the front-runner here in February after registering a strong 2.64 ERA, 0.897 WHIP, and 80/11 K/BB ratio in 58 innings last season for Washington. It's a story we'll be tracking all spring.

Jeurys Familia returned to Mets camp Monday.

Mike Puma of the New York Post reported Saturday that Familia's weekend absence from the Mets' spring training facilities had something to do with MLB's ongoing investigation into the closer's October domestic violence charge. So maybe we'll be hearing about a suspension soon from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. Addison Reed projects to open the 2017 season as New York's ninth-inning man, unless Familia somehow avoids punishment.

Yankees signed LHP Jon Niese to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Niese will get a look as both a starter and reliever in spring camp. The club had been in the market for a left-handed setup man, but found the cost of Jerry Blevins and Boone Logan to be too prohibitive.

Orioles acquired LHP Vidal Nuno from the Dodgers for RHP Ryan Moseley.

The 29-year-old southpaw has now been traded four times in the past three years. Nuno compiled a 3.53 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 7.8 K/9 over 58 2/3 innings primarily out of the bullpen for the Mariners in 2016. He'll add valuable depth to the Orioles with his ability to both start and pitch effectively out of the bullpen.

Eric Gagne told MLB.com's Ken Gurnick that he's considering making a comeback.

Gagne is now 41 and hasn't pitched in the majors since 2008 or even been in a spring training camp since 2010. However, he's been throwing bullpen sessions as he prepares to pitch for Canada in the World Baseball Classic and says he's getting his fastball into the 90s and also featuring his trademark changeup. "I feel great. It's almost scary," Gagne said. The righty has had throwing sessions with the Padres and Diamondbacks. Obviously, it's a huge long shot that Gagne pitches again in the majors, let alone does it effectively. However, it will be something fun to track this spring.

Zack Wheeler (elbow) threw a 21-pitch bullpen session on Sunday.

Wheeler had some tenderness in his pitching elbow during a 'pen session last week, but he got through Sunday's session with no issues. It's obviously encouraging, but the righty isn't out of the woods yet after all of his arm problems the last two seasons. If he can stay healthy, Wheeler stands a good chance at capturing the final spot in the Mets' rotation.
