Chase Headley will likely miss at least two weeks due to a strained right calf.

Headley suffered the injury during infield drills, and he was seen on crutches in the team's clubhouse. Even though it sounds bad, Headley didn't seem too concerned. The third baseman received ice treatment Saturday afternoon and will get an MRI Monday. More should be known about his timetable after the team gets the results back.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Corey Seager (back) is progressing, but his availability for Game 1 of the World Series is still uncertain.

Roberts said Seager has been hitting off a tee and taking some soft toss, and running curves in the infield, but no determination has been made. The next step for Seager is live at-bats in a simulated game. Given the stakes, it's hard to imagine the shortstop won't be out there if at all possible when the Series starts next week.

Gary Sanchez will bat cleanup and play catcher for the Yankees in Saturday's ALCS Game 7 against the Astros.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi kept the exact same lineup from Friday night's Game 6 loss, including keeping Sanchez in the cleanup spot. It's a vote of confidence for the 24-year-old, who has scuffled to a .204/.216/.429 line with 18 strikeouts in 49 postseason at-bats heading into Saturday's game. The rest of the Yankees lineup behind CC Sabathia Saturday: Brett Gardner LF; Aaron Judge RF; Didi Gregorius SS; Sanchez C; Greg Bird 1B; Starlin Castro 2B; Aaron Hicks CF; Todd Frazier 3B; Chase Headley DH.

Astros bench coach Alex Cora has been offered and is expected to take the job as the next Red Sox manager, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Heyman says Cora will accept the job as soon as the Astros are eliminated from the postseason, possibly as soon as Saturday night. Cora was the hot name on the managerial market this winter, drawing interest from all four clubs with vacancies (Red Sox, Tigers, Phillies and Mets) in recent weeks. With the Tigers linked to Ron Gardenhire, the Phils and Mets are the remaining teams with openings.
Oct 21 - 4:44 PM

Alex Bregman is batting second and playing third base for the Astros in Saturday's ALCS Game 7 against the Yankees.

Bregman had moved down in the lineup for Game 6 against hard-throwing right-hander Luis Severino, but against southpaw CC Sabathia he's back in a prime production spot for the decisive game. The postseason hasn't been kind to the 23-year-old thus far, as he's hitting just .184/.244/.395 in 10 playoff games. The rest of the Astros lineup in support of Charlie Morton goes like this: George Springer CF; Bregman 3B; Jose Altuve 2B; Carlos Correa SS; Yuli Gurriel 1B; Evan Gattis DH; Brian McCann C; Marwin Gonzalez LF; Josh Reddick RF.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that the Nationals have asked the Astros' permission to interview Alex Cora after the conclusion of the ALCS.

Cora has already interviewed with the Tigers and the Red Sox and Astros' manager A.J. Hinch seems to fully support the idea of Cora getting his own managerial gig. The Nationals canned Dusty Baker in a surprising move on Friday, leaving one of the most talented teams in the league with a major vacancy at the helm.
Oct 21 - 8:21 AM

Justin Verlander struck out eight batters while firing seven shutout frames to beat the Yankees 7-1 in Game 6 of the ALCS on Friday.

He was on top of his game and didn't give the Yankees any chance to do much damage all night. He scattered five hits -- all singles -- issued one walk and hit one batter. It was his second win in the series to go with a 0.56 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 16 innings. The Astros gave up a ton of money and a load of prospect talent to get Verlander on September 1st but his performance in the playoffs has made it all worthwhile. He is 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 24 2/3 post-season innings.
Oct 21 - 12:35 AM

Jose Altuve went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and three RBI in Friday's ALCS Game 6 win over the Yankees.

His two-RBI single in the fifth inning gave his team a 3-0 lead and knocked opposing starter Luis Severino out of the game. He tacked on a solo home run off reliever David Robertson leading off the bottom of the eighth inning. The Astros scored four runs in the frame to put the game on ice. It was the MVP candidate's first home run of the championship series and fourth of the post-season. The series wraps up tomorrow with the winner advancing to the World Series.
Oct 21 - 12:07 AM

Chase Headley is starting in the designated hitter spot and batting ninth for the Yankees in Friday's ALCS Game 6 versus the Astros.

Headley hasn't done much this postseason, but he had three hits in Game 5, earning another start in the DH spot Friday. The Yankees' full lineup is as follows: Brett Gardner LF, Aaron Judge RF, Didi Gregorius SS, Gary Sanchez C, Greg Bird 1B, Starlin Castro 2B, Aaron Hicks CF, Todd Frazier 3B, Headley DH.
Oct 20 - 4:45 PM

Evan Gattis is starting in the designated hitter spot and batting eighth for the Astros in ALCS Game 6 on Friday versus the Yankees.

Carlos Beltran has started four of the five games so far this series in the DH spot, but it will be Gattis in there Friday against right-hander Luis Severino. The Astros' full lineup looks like this: George Springer CF, Josh Reddick RF, Jose Altuve 2B, Carlos Correa SS, Yulieski Gurriel 1B, Alex Bregman 3B, Marwin Gonzalez LF, Gattis DH, Brian McCann C.
Oct 20 - 4:27 PM

Daniel Murphy underwent a debridement and microfracture surgery on Friday to repair damage to the articular cartilage in his right knee.

Murphy tore the MCL in the same knee many years ago but this is the first we've heard of any knee issues since then. The Nationals did not reveal a timetable for his return, only saying that he will rehab "throughout the offseason." It's a significant operation, so it's certainly possible that Murphy will be limited in spring training.
Oct 20 - 3:21 PM

The Tigers on Friday announced the hiring of Ron Gardenhire as their new manager.

Gardenhire has received a three-year contract. The former Twins skipper went 1,068-1,039 in 13 seasons in Minnesota and this past season served as the Diamondbacks' bench coach. It'll be a tough gig for the soon-to-be 60-year-old, as the Tigers are facing a rebuilding effort.
