Dodgers signed RHP Ryan Sadowski to a minor league contract.

Sadowski, 31, hasn't pitched in the majors since 2009 as a member of the Giants and spent 2010-2012 in the Korean Baseball Organization. He'll serve as organizational depth.

Tom Koehler held the Orioles in check on Sunday, surrendering just one run on three hits over 6 1/3 innings.

Koehler's currently starting for Jarred Cosart (vertigo) and has pitched admirably in his extended spot duty. The only run he allowed against the Orioles came on a Jimmy Paredes sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. He also struck out three and walked four in the contest. Obviously, the walk number isn't good, but the 28-year-old right-hander managed to work his way around the free passes. He's scheduled to take a 3.44 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 38/21 K/BB ratio (in 55 innings) on the road against the Rockies next time out.

Edwin Encarnacion singled and ripped a two-run home run in Sunday's victory over the Mariners.

Both Ryan Goins and Encarnacion went deep for the Jays in the fifth inning off of Taijuan Walker. Encarnacion still isn't hitting for average, but he's really found his power stroke of late with eight dingers over his last 16 contests. He has 12 homers and 32 RBI on the season.

Billy Burns went 3-for-5 with a solo home run, a stolen base, and three runs scored in Sunday's victory over the Rays.

Burns led off the game with a solo home run to right field off of Erasmo Ramirez, serving as his first career long ball. He also singled twice and stole a base en route to scoring two more runs. The speedy outfielder has been a spark plug at the top of the Athletics' lineup, batting .309/.356/.395 with seven stolen bases in nine attempts.

Yonder Alonso (shoulder) is expected to begin a rehab assignment with High-A Lake Elsinore on Wednesday.

Padres manager Bud Black seemed pessimistic less than a week ago about Alonso's recovery from a bone bruise in his right shoulder, but the first baseman has apparently made great progress since then. He'll hit on the field on Monday. "I was able to go through my routine, I was able to hit some balls off the tee and hit some balls off front toss. Day by day, I'm increasing my load," he said. "I'm feeling good, responded well to [Friday's] work."
May 24 - 3:44 PM

X-rays on Sonny Gray's right ankle came back negative.

Gray was hit on the ankle by a comebacker during Sunday's start in Tampa. He's escaped with merely a bruise and should be ready to roll later this week for his next scheduled start.
May 24 - 3:28 PM

Giants designated 3B Casey McGehee for assignment.

The Giants traded for McGehee over the winter in hopes that he'd pick up some of the offensive slack following the loss to Pablo Sandoval. It would be an understatement to say it didn't work out, as he hit just .200/.254/.282 and is now off the roster. Matt Duffy will be San Francisco's regular third baseman.
May 24 - 2:10 PM

Matt Holliday was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left arm contusion.

Holliday was hit on the arm by a pitch during Saturday's game and evidently is still sore. Pete Kozma entered the lineup at shortstop in Holliday's place, with Jhonny Peralta sliding into the designated hitter spot and Mark Reynolds moving to left field.
May 24 - 2:08 PM

Steven Souza left Sunday's game versus the Athletics with a left wrist injury.

Souza initially hurt the wrist on a collision at home plate with Stephen Vogt, and he then aggravated it later on a swing. The A's should have more on his status later Sunday.
May 24 - 2:05 PM

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers and Athletics discussed a trade involving Jesse Chavez over the offseason.

They could wind up revisiting the talks, as the A's have baseball's worst record and the Dodgers are in need of rotation help following season-ending injuries to Brandon McCarthy (elbow) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder). Chavez began the season in Oakland's bullpen but joined the rotation late last month and has posted a 2.89 ERA and 41/13 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings. The Dodgers are also known to have engaged in trade discussions with the Phillies over the winter regarding Cole Hamels, so it's possible they'll try to reel in a bigger fish than Chavez.
May 24 - 1:41 PM

Jason Heyward (hip) remained out of the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

He's now sat out two straight contests with tightness in his left hip. Heyward is considered day-to-day. Randal Grichuk is getting another start in right field.
May 24 - 12:26 PM

Avisail Garcia (knee) is back in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.

Garcia hasn't played since Thursday due to inflammation in his right knee, but he apparently feels well enough to give it a go in this one. The 23-year-old is hitting a nifty .319/.359/.451 with four homers this season.
