Matt Cain has scheduled a visit with Dr. James Andrews.

That's usually not good news. Cain has failed to make any progress in his rehabilitation from right elbow inflammation and may now be facing surgery. The right-hander could be done for the year no matter what.

Josh Rutledge is out of the Rockies' starting lineup again on Tuesday against the Cubs.

Rutledge is battling an upper respiratory infection and could need a few more days off. The infielder has performed well as Troy Tulowitzki's (hip) fill-in at shortstop but obviously needs to be benched for now in fantasy leagues that allow for daily lineup changes.

Rockies activated 1B Justin Morneau from the 15-day disabled list.

Morneau missed the minimum amount of time with a mild neck strain. The veteran first baseman boasts a .312/.345/.502 batting line with 13 home runs and 60 RBI in 89 games this season. It's been a resurgent year for Morneau, and the strong production should continue down the stretch (with the help of Coors Field).

Chris Davis is out Tuesday because of an illness.

Davis should be fine after a day or two of rest. Steve Pearce is at first base and Delmon Young is serving as the Orioles' DH on Tuesday night versus the Angels.

Mike Napoli has some swelling in one of his fingers.

It's the reason he's out of the Red Sox starting lineup for the second time in three games. Mike Carp, who's thought to be available via trade, is starting at first base for Boston on Tuesday against the Blue Jays.

Padres activated SS Everth Cabrera from the 15-day disabled list.

Cabrera wound up missing close to four weeks with a left hamstring strain. The speedy shortstop has posted a hideous .218/.256/.290 batting line in 80 games this year and he's just 13-for-20 in stolen base attempts.

Jayson Werth (ankle) is out of Tuesday's lineup against the Marlins.

Werth left Monday's game after twisting his right ankle, but the expectation was that he would be good to go Tuesday. However, he apparently needs some more time. Nate McLouth will start in right field.

According to Jeff Passan and Tim Brown of Yahoo Sports, the Pirates are "a fast-emerging dark horse" to acquire Jon Lester from the Red Sox.

The Pirates could use an ace as much as anyone and they have the prospects to get a deal done. For what it's worth, prospect outfielder Josh Bell is said to be "at the center" of talks. The Dodgers, Brewers, and Orioles are among the other teams who have been linked to Lester over the past couple of days.

Andy Martino of the New York Daily News hears from major league sources that the Royals could be interested in the Mets' Bartolo Colon or the Phillies' A.J. Burnett.

Martino notes that the Royals might not be able to add the payroll necessary to acquire Colon or Burnett, but the team's evaluators like both pitchers. Colon, who got the best of Burnett on Monday, is owed $11 million next season. Burnett's contract includes a complicated player option for 2015 which already guarantees him $7.5 million. It will increase to $12.75 million if he makes 30 starts this season. He has already made 23 starts.

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com hears from a source that Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo worked out for the Phillies on Tuesday.

28 out of 30 MLB teams were reportedly on hand for Castillo's showcase on Saturday and he's now scheduling private workouts for teams. According to Sanchez, he'll work out for the Red Sox on Friday and the Mariners on Sunday. Meanwhile, Ben Badler of Baseball America reports that the Yankees have also scheduled a workout. Known for his plus-speed, Castillo could receive a contract in the range of Yasiel Puig's $42 million deal with the Dodgers.
