Padres transferred RHP Joe Wieland from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the addition of Bobby LaFromboise. Wieland underwent surgery a week ago to remove scar tissue from his elbow and is hoping to return to the Padres before the All-Star break.

Adrian Gonzalez is not in the Dodgers' lineup Wednesday due to back stiffness.

The back hasn't really been an issue to this point, so unless it progresses into something more it's likely not something that will give him problems going forward. Justin Turner started at first base in Gonzalez' place.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports the Blue Jays have placed Mark Buehrle on revocable waivers.

Buehrle is owed $19 million in the final year of his deal in 2015, so interest in the 35-year-old may be hard to come by. The Angels, a team in serious need of another starter after Garrett Richards' injury, could be interested. Buehrle started the year strong and is 11-8 with a 3.41 ERA through 26 starts.

MLB Network's Peter Gammons said the Dodgers' interest in Bartolo Colon "apparently is more fiction than non-fiction."

The Dodgers have continually been included in the Colon trade rumors after he passed through waivers a few days ago. It makes sense that they wouldn't have a ton of interest, though, with both Zack Greinke and Hyun-Jin Ryu trending in the right direction. The Angels appear to be the lone serious suitor for Colon at this point.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (glute) threw a two-inning simulated game without pain on Wednesday.

Getting through the simulated game was the last hurdle for Ryu before a return. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly hasn't committed to when Ryu will be activated for a start, but it appears that he'll return Sunday or Monday at the latest.

Joey Votto (quad) did some "baseball activities" Wednesday, taking ground balls.

Votto has also been playing catch and doing some running. He appears to be getting closer to a return, but the minor league seasons ending over the weekend limits his opportunities to get into rehab games. Even when he comes back he won't be 100 percent, Reds manager Bryan Price has continued to say, and it's still unclear when that return may be.

Jed Lowrie (finger) may begin a rehab assignment this weekend.

Lowrie played catch on Tuesday, and the next step is a rehab assignment. Assuming he needs a few games to get up to game speed, Lowrie should be back in Oakland in the first few days of September.

Leonys Martin went 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI in Wednesday's 12-4 rout of the Mariners.

Martin hit an RBI single in the Rangers' four-run second inning and then singled and scored in the fourth. He capped off his productive afternoon with a two-run homer in the top of the sixth. Martin has not enjoyed the breakout season that many were predicting, but the dynamic 26-year-old is capable of putting up some big numbers down the stretch.

Rockies placed C Wilin Rosario on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 23, with left wrist inflammation.

Rosario wasn't making swift enough progress from his sore left wrist, but it's not believed to be a major injury and he should be ready to return as soon as he is eligible. Rosario owns a disappointing .687 OPS with 10 home runs and 43 RBI in 91 games this year. He had an .801 OPS, 21 homers, and 79 RBI in 121 games last year.

Xander Bogaerts (concussion) has been cleared to return to the Red Sox active roster on Saturday.

Bogaerts was placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list last weekend, but he's been symptom-free since Monday and officially passed MLB's protocols on Wednesday. Bogaerts will try to finish the 2014 season on a positive note. He's batted just .223/.293/.333 so far.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman was told Wednesday that there is "nothing at the moment going on with" the Astros and 2014 top overall pick Brady Aiken.

Kiley McDaniel of FanGraphs reported last week that the Astros might still be able to strike a deal with Aiken, even though the July 18 deadline to sign draft picks has long since passed. But that was apparently a misunderstanding. Heyman hears that the Astros are trying to work something out with Jacob Nix, a fifth-round pick who went unsigned after the Aiken negotiations fell through. Nix filed a grievance, and would seem to have a pretty solid case.

Manny Machado underwent surgery Wednesday to repair a partially-torn ligament in his right knee.

Doctors said nothing unusual was found and that the procedure went according to plan. Machado is hoping to be ready for the start of spring training next year, though that's not necessarily guaranteed to happen. This is the second season in a row he's been shut down early by a major knee injury.
