Rangers designated RHP Daniel McCutchen for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Colby Lewis on the 25-man and 40-man rosters. McCutchen made one appearance during his time with the big club and could pass through waivers unclaimed.

Lucas Duda (oblique) hopes to be game-ready early next week.

As it turns out, Duda just hit off a tee and took some soft tosses Friday and didn't take batting practice as originally reported. It's nonetheless a nice step as the slugger works his way back from an oblique strain. Duda will have plenty of time to get ready for Opening Day as long as he doesn't have a setback.

Daniel Murphy will undergo X-rays on his right hand.

The Mets announced that Murphy had a bruise after he was removed from Friday's game following a hit by pitch, but apparently that was just a preliminary diagnosis. For what it's worth, Murphy noted that he's not overly concerned even though his hand was noticeably swollen. An update on his status should be available later Friday.
Mar 6 - 3:22 PM

Jose Bautista was scratched from Friday's game due to right hamstring tightness.

There were rainy conditions in Florida, so the Blue Jays were likely just playing things cautiously here. Bautista should be back in action before long. Caleb Gindl took Joey Bats' spot in right field Friday.
Mar 6 - 2:17 PM

Matt Harvey touched 99 mph while throwing two perfect innings Friday against the Nationals.

Harvey struck out three, and he showed good break on his curveball to go along with the blazing heater. It was a terrific sight. The plan is for Harvey to start the Mets' third game of the season on April 9.
Mar 6 - 2:01 PM

Rangers signed LHP Joe Beimel to a one-year, $1.5 million contract.

It's a major league deal, but Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News notes that it's not guaranteed. He can earn more through incentives. After not appearing the majors for two seasons, Beimel posted a 2.20 ERA over 56 appearances in 2014 for the Mariners (though he struck out only 25 across 45 innings). It's a solid late signing by the Rangers, as they needed left-handed relief help.
Mar 6 - 1:46 PM

Jonathan Lucroy (hamstring) could be ready for Cactus League game sooner than expected.

Lucroy is just over three weeks into his projected 4-6 week timetable for a right hamstring strain. It's not clear when he might be ready to play in games, but it doesn't sound like it will be too long. Lucroy is on pace to be ready for Opening Day, assuming he continues to progress without hitting any bumps in the road.
Mar 6 - 12:45 PM

Josh Reddick was scratched from Friday's lineup due to a right oblique strain.

Oblique strains can be troublesome, but Reddick has enough time to be ready for Opening Day as long as he doesn't suffer a setback. Billy Burns took his spot in the lineup Friday. Reddick batted .264/.316/.446 with 12 longballs for Oakland last season.
Mar 6 - 12:32 PM

Gavin Floyd had to halt a live batting practice session on Wednesday after seven pitches due to "general soreness."

Floyd isn't concerned, but his next step has yet to be determined. Indians manager Terry Francona noted that the soreness the righty is experiencing is in a different spot than was operated on last June. If Floyd were get a late start to the season, Danny Salazar and T.J. House could both be penciled into the Indians' rotation.
Mar 6 - 11:14 AM

Jorge De La Rosa was scratched from Saturday's scheduled outing due to left groin tightness.

It's just a precautionary move, as De La Rosa will play catch Friday, throw off the mound Saturday and plans to make his next scheduled start next week. As long as he doesn't have a setback, the veteran left-hander will be fine for Opening Day.
Mar 6 - 11:05 AM

Yu Darvish (triceps) will undergo an MRI on Friday.

Darvish had to exit Thursday's Cactus League appearance due to right triceps tightness. He reported improvement Friday and the Rangers don't seem to be worried, but it's protocol for them to order an MRI just in case. Even if the MRI comes back clean, he would figure to rest a bit as a precaution. The results will be in on Saturday.
Mar 6 - 10:45 AM

Omar Infante was scratched from Friday's lineup due to ongoing soreness in his right elbow.

Infante, who has dealt with soreness in his throwing elbow since the beginning of camp, had been slated to serve as the designated hitter. The Royals are hoping he'll be ready to serve as DH on Saturday, but he's set to undergo an MRI on Friday just in case.
