Dustin Pedroia (wrist) is back in the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday against the White Sox.

Pedroia will lead off and play second base in the second game of a three-game set at U.S. Cellular Field. He was diagnosed Monday with inflammation in his left wrist and given a cortisone shot to help him through the discomfort.

Cardinals activated LHP Jaime Garcia from the 15-day disabled list.

Garcia has missed over a month with a groin strain, but he'll make his return Tuesday against the Reds. The southpaw has a 1.69 ERA and 32/7 K/BB ratio in 48 innings over seven starts this season and should be relevant in mixed fantasy leagues as long as he has a rotation spot.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins are now "now open to at least contemplate" trading Martin Prado.

Previous reports indicated that the Marlins planned to keep Prado, but they are softening on that stance just a couple of days away from the trade deadline. The 31-year-old is owed $11 million next season, though the Yankees are covering $3 million. He's capable of playing multiple positions and should have appeal to multiple contenders.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Marlins are "growing more confident" that they'll trade Mat Latos.

His market is "coming into focus," Crasnick was told by a source. Latos got off to a rough start this season prior to hitting the disabled list with a right knee injury, but he has improved his value with a 2.96 ERA over his last seven starts. The Yankees, Cubs, and Blue Jays have reportedly shown interest in a deal.

Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com hears from a baseball source with knowledge of the situation that Jonathan Papelbon "will be traded" by Friday's deadline.

It was reported last week that the Phillies didn't have any traction in a trade involving Papelbon, with his $13 million vesting option 2016 complicating matters. However, things have apparently changed over the past week, including a report that the Nationals are "making progress" on a deal. It sounds like there should be a resolution soon.

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Phillies have told several teams interested in Cole Hamels that they'd like to get their "best" offers by Wednesday.

Coming off a no-hitter, Hamels is currently scheduled to make his next start Thursday against the Braves. The Phillies would apparently prefer to make a decision before that, but there's a chance this situation could drag into Friday. The Dodgers and Rangers have been considered the favorites to land Hamels in recent days, but the Phillies have also spoken with the Cubs, Giants, Astros, Diamondbacks, Yankees, and Red Sox.

Travis d'Arnaud (elbow) went 1-for-3 with a single and caught seven innings Monday in his latest minor league rehab game with Double-A Binghamton.

D'Arnaud, out for a month with a left elbow sprain, caught five innings on Saturday and served as the DH on Sunday. He's expected to catch a full game on Tuesday and appears likely to rejoin the Mets this weekend.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Nationals are "making progress" on acquiring Jonathan Papelbon from the Phillies.

Papelbon has said that he would only waive his no-trade clause if he's sent to a team where he would close, so there's a chance Drew Storen could be moved back into a set-up role. However, the Nationals could sweeten the pot if they guarantee his $13 million vesting option for 2016.

Rockies acquired SS Jose Reyes and RHPs Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Jesus Tinoco from the Blue Jays for SS Troy Tulowitzki and RHP LaTroy Hawkins.

The deal is now official. Reyes would appear to be an odd fit for the Rockies, who have prospect Trevor Story in Triple-A, so the expectation is that he could be eventually flipped to another team. The Rockies would likely have to eat some salary in order to do it, as Reyes has showed diminished skills at the plate and in the field. The 32-year-old is owed $22 million in 2016 and 2017 and his contract includes a $22 million club option or a $4 million buyout for 2018. This is the second time he's been traded since signing his six year, $106 million contract with the Marlins in December of 2011.

Blue Jays acquired SS Troy Tulowitzki and RHP LaTroy Hawkins from the Rockies for SS Jose Reyes and RHPs Jeff Hoffman, Miguel Castro, and Jesus Tinoco.

While many expected the Blue Jays to make a big splash for their pitcher, they stunned the baseball world late Monday night by upgrading what was already the best offense in the majors. Tulowitzki has managed to stay mostly healthy this season while batting .300/.348/.471 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI over 87 games. His injury history is a concern, especially on the turf at Rogers Centre, but the 30-year-old could age better in the American League because of the ability to DH. Tulowitzki will receive a $2 million assignment bonus for being traded and his contract now includes a full no-trade clause. He's owed $94 million from 2016-2020 with a $15 million club option or $4 million buyout in 2021.
Jul 28 - 11:06 AM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Rockies are planning to trade outfielder Carlos Gonzalez.

And the timing couldn't be better, as Gonzalez went deep twice on Monday against the Cubs and now has 10 home runs this month. The 29-year-old is batting .278/.332/.520 with 20 home runs and 51 RBI overall this season. His injury history and contract could cause some teams to shy away, but he has the potential to be an impact bat for a contender. He's making $16 million this season and is owed $37 million from 2016-2017.

Ryan Zimmerman (foot) will be activated from the disabled list for Tuesday's game against the Marlins.

The Nationals got Anthony Rendon back over the weekend and they are now prepared to add Jayson Werth and Zimmerman back into the mix. Sidelined since early June with plantar fasciitis, Zimmerman went just 1-for-15 during his minor league rehab assignment, but the important thing is that the rest has done him good.
