Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases for the first time Wednesday with no problems.

Machado had been running sprints in the days prior, but Wednesday was the first day he ran the bases in his recovery from October knee surgery. He'll continue running the bases for the rest of the week. No indication was given as to when he'll be cleared to take part in extended spring training games, but it shouldn't be too long now.

Billy Hamilton is not in Monday's lineup against the Cardinals.

He's presumably getting a day of rest. Patrick Kivlehan will handle center field duties and bat eighth. Jose Peraza is hitting leadoff.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Nationals are pursuing free agent reliever Francisco Rodriguez and he's likely to sign with them.

Rodriguez was released by the Tigers last week after posting an unsightly 7.82 ERA over 28 appearances this season. It's no secret that the Nationals need bullpen help, so they are hoping to catch some lightning in a bottle here. We're not optimistic.

Yankees activated OF Jacoby Ellsbury from the 7-day concussion disabled list.

As expected, Ellsbury will replace the injured Aaron Hicks (oblique) on the active roster. The veteran outfielder went 3-for-8 with two doubles during a brief minor league rehab assignment. He put up a .281/.349/.422 batting line over 39 games prior to suffering a concussion last month.

Diamondbacks placed OF Aaron Hicks on the 10-day disabled list with a right oblique injury.

Hicks suffered the injury during Sunday's game and is expected to miss 3-4 weeks. It's a shame, as the 27-year-old has enjoyed an excellent first base. Jacoby Ellsbury (concussion) has been activated from the disabled list to take his place on the active roster.
Jun 26 - 12:27 PM

Paul Goldschmidt is out of Monday's lineup against the Phillies.

Goldschmidt will get a day of rest with the afternoon game. Daniel Descalso will fill in at first base.

Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports that the Rays are "believed to be the front-runners" to acquire Marlins shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria.

The Rays would presumably install Hechavarria as their regular shortstop and move Tim Beckham to second base. Frisaro notes that the Marlins are in discussions with multiple teams, but they hope to get a deal done before Tuesday. Hechavarria, who is nearing a return from an oblique injury, was batting .277/.288/.385 with one home run and six RBI over 20 games prior to landing on the DL. The 28-year-old is making $4.35 million this season and is under team control through 2018. The Marlins want to clear his salary and net one or two pitching prospects in return.

Madison Bumgarner (shoulder) tossed three no-hit innings Sunday in his first minor league rehab start with the Giants' Arizona Rookie League team.

Bumgarner, who is coming back from a sprained left AC joint in his shoulder, struck out two and walked one. According to Tommy Stokke of FanRag Sports, the southpaw sat in the 88-91 mph range with his fastball. The plan calls for him to return to San Francisco on Monday and throw another bullpen session later in the week before continuing his rehab stint. If all goes well, the Giants' ace should return by the end of July.

Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 and delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning on Sunday as the Cardinals rallied to beat the Pirates 8-4.

Molina also scored three runs in the ballgame. His RBI single in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie and put the Cardinals ahead to stay. The veteran backstop is enjoying another solid season at the dish, hitting .268/.300/.426 with nine long balls and 29 RBI.
Jun 25 - 11:50 PM

Cody Bellinger went 3-for-5 with a pair of two-run home runs and four total RBI in Sunday's 12-6 win over the Rockies.

The Rockies worked their way out to a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the third before the Dodgers made their offensive presence felt against Tyler Anderson. Following a two-run home run by Kike Hernandez, Bellinger crunched a two-run shot of his own to draw the team to within 5-4. They would keep that offensive momentum going as the game progressed, with Bellinger coming through for yet another two-run shot in the eighth inning. The young phenom is hitting a sparkling .274/.342/.679 with 24 homers and 55 RBI in just 57 games played. He has 11 extra-base hits (including six home runs) in his last nine games.
Jun 25 - 9:05 PM

Rene Rivera went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three total RBI in Sunday's 8-2 win over the Giants.

With the Mets already up 1-0, Rivera bumped the lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer off Matt Moore in the second inning. He would add a solo shot in the fourth. The light-hitting backup catcher is slashing .268/.305/.423 with five homers and 19 RBI in 123 at-bats this season.

Ervin Santana mowed down the Indians over six scoreless frames Sunday in the Twins’ 4-0 victory.

The Indians actually managed nine hits off Santana but most of them were singles and they couldn’t do much with runners in scoring position (1-for-8). Santana fanned seven without allowing a walk while throwing 70 of his 108 pitches for strikes. Sunday’s win was Santana’s 10th of the year, placing him third in the majors behind Jason Vargas and Clayton Kershaw, who both have 11. Santana will go head-to-head with Vargas next Friday at Kansas City.
