Nationals manager Matt Williams said Saturday that he's considering pushing Doug Fister's (lat) season debut back to Friday.

Fister had been slated to get the ball Wednesday, but the Nats are considering keeping Stephen Strasburg on regular rest that day after he threw just 83 pitches in his last outing. "We might have to make a little bit of an adjustment there," Williams said. "We’re still working that out. We’re always looking for extra for guys. But the fact that [Strasburg] only threw 80-something pitches may dictate that he get pushed. We’ll make that determination."

A.J. Pollock (hamstring) is back in the Diamondbacks' starting lineup Monday versus the Nationals.

Pollock was given a few days off this weekend with a minor hamstring injury. The 27-year-old outfielder is batting .305/.361/.465 with 11 home runs and 23 stolen bases in 100 games this season for the Diamondbacks. He's one of the most underrated players in baseball.

Kris Bryant (head) is in the Cubs' starting lineup on Monday night against the Pirates.

Bryant made an early exit from Sunday's series finale against the Brewers after experiencing some lightheadedness. A concussion was ruled out after testing.

Giants placed 2B Joe Panik on the 15-day disabled list with lower back inflammation.

Panik admitted after Sunday's game that he's been bothered by back stiffness for the past couple of weeks. Hopefully a bit of time off will do the trick for the 24-year-old, who's enjoying a breakout 2015 season. Ehire Adrianza and callup Kelby Tomlinson figure to share playing time at second base while Panik is sidelined.
Aug 3 - 3:27 PM

Marlins placed RHP Carter Capps on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

It's not clear how long he might be out. Capps has used his funky delivery to become one of the most dominant relievers in baseball this year, boasting a 1.16 ERA, 0.81 WHIP, and 58/7 K/BB ratio in 31 innings.
Aug 3 - 3:17 PM

Athletics claimed INF/OF Danny VAlencia off waivers from the Blue Jays.

Valencia was designated for assignment by Toronto in a somewhat surprising move after the July 31 trade deadline. He's having a very good season and drew interest from a range of teams (including the White Sox, Rangers, and Orioles) on the waiver wire. The 30-year-old probably isn't going to carry a ton of fantasy value in Oakland.
Aug 3 - 3:06 PM

A.J. Burnett has been diagnosed with a strained flexor tendon in his right arm.

The veteran right-hander was sent for an MRI on Monday after complaining of inflammation in his pitching elbow during his last start July 31 against the Reds. There was some concern about ligament damage, but Monday's MRI showed his UCL is intact. Burnett will undergo treatment instead of surgery and is hoping to return to the Pirates later this year. J.A. Happ has taken over the rotation vacancy in Pittsburgh.
Aug 3 - 2:39 PM

Rays purchased the contract of 1B/3B Richie Shaffer from Triple-A Durham.

Shaffer has hit .265/.359/595 with 16 home runs in 55 games this season at the Triple-A level. He was the 25th overall pick in the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft and could slide his way into semi-regular playing time if things go well out of the gate. The 24-year-old should be on fantasy watch lists.
Aug 3 - 2:30 PM

Rays optioned LHP Matt Moore to Triple-A Durham.

Moore went 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA in six starts after returning July 2 from Tommy John surgery. The 26-year-old southpaw clearly needs to build more arm strength and the Rays want him to do it as a starter in the minors rather than in the bullpen as a mop-up man. Tampa Bay has some upcoming off days and will roll with a four-man rotation for the time being.
Aug 3 - 2:26 PM

Andrelton Simmons will undergo an MRI on his injured right thumb Monday in Atlanta.

It's being called a sprain for now, but there's some concern that the injury is more severe. "I'm hoping, but I'm always a glass half-full kind of guy," Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sunday when asked whether his shortstop is facing an extended absence. Simmons suffered the thumb injury Saturday while diving for a ball.
Aug 3 - 9:27 AM

Jon Gray will make his major league debut on Tuesday night against the visiting Mariners.

There have been rumors for weeks that Gray was on the verge of a callup, and the well-built 23-year-old right-hander is now finally getting his shot. Gray, the second overall pick in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft, owns a 2.90 ERA and 82 strikeouts over his last 80 2/3 innings at Triple-A Albuquerque. He's MLB-ready and one of the top young starters in baseball, though Coors Field can be hell on pitchers of all profiles. Fantasy owners might want to take it start-by-start with him out of the gate.

Lucas Duda continued his home run barrage on Sunday, blasting a two-run homer off Jordan Zimmermann in Sunday's 5-2 victory over the Nationals.

With the victory, the Mets completed their sweep of the three-game weekend series against the Nationals and pulled even with their division rival for the top spot in the National League East. Duda has been on an absolute tear at the plate in recent days, blasting nine home runs and driving home 12 runs in his last eight ballgames. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now hitting .249/.348/.489 with 21 homers and 50 RBI on the season.
