Phillies purchased the contract of RHP Ken Giles from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Giles has a 1.88 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 38/13 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season. Giles has also racked up 12 saves between the two levels. The 23-year-old will be making his major league debut.

Lucas Giolito will make his White Sox debut on Monday during a doubleheader versus the Twins.

The White Sox are also promoting Michael Kopech from Double- to Triple-A. Giolito holds an underwhelming 4.48 ERA with 59 walks over 128 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Charlotte, but he's also struck out 134 and had posted a 1.71 ERA over his last five starts. He could wind up sticking around beyond Monday if Reynaldo Lopez (oblique) needs a trip to the disabled list.

David Price remains shut down from throwing due to ongoing stiffness in his left elbow.

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe writes that while Red Sox manager John Farrell is still hopeful of Price returning this season, he "acknowledges the window is closing." The left-hander has had a couple starts and stops in his throwing program since he landed on the disabled list nearly three weeks ago with what the club called inflammation at the time. Price, of course, didn't make his season debut until late May because of elbow issues.
Aug 18 - 4:43 PM

Kyle Seager (illness) is back in the Mariners' lineup Friday.

Seager missed a couple starts with a stomach virus and said he lost over 10 pounds. He's evidently feeling better, though, and is ready to give it a go against Austin Pruitt and the Rays.
Aug 18 - 4:22 PM

Cardinals placed RHP Adam Wainwright on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow impingement.

Wainwright's velocity was down significantly in his last two starts, so he'll take a break for a while. Luke Weaver will assume his spot in the rotation and is worth picking up in fantasy leagues.
Aug 18 - 4:15 PM

Reds activated OF Scott Schebler from the 10-day disabled list.

He's been out all month with a strained left rotator cuff but is ready to go following a short rehab assignment. Schebler was really struggling before going on the DL and Jesse Winker is still expected to receive some starts in right field.
Aug 18 - 4:01 PM

Brewers activated C Stephen Vogt from the 10-day disabled list.

Vogt missed a month of action with a sprained MCL. He'll go back to sharing time at catcher with Manny Pina.
Aug 18 - 3:57 PM

Angels activated LHP Andrew Heaney from the 60-day disabled list.

Heaney will make his season debut on Friday in Baltimore after completing the long rehab from Tommy John surgery. He put up a 2.60 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings on his rehab assignment, but it would probably still be wise for fantasy owners to see how he looks for a start or two before activating him, especially considering the tough first matchup.
Aug 18 - 3:36 PM

Dodgers activated 1B Adrian Gonzalez from the 60-day disabled list.

Gonzalez went 6-for-31 (.194) with one home run over nine rehab games as he shook the rust off following a back injury. The Dodgers seem likely to use Gonzalez mostly as a bat off the bench, although they could give Cody Bellinger some starts in the outfield. Gonzalez will at least get starts this weekend in Detroit for the Dodgers' interleague series.
Aug 18 - 3:22 PM

Cubs placed LHP Jon Lester on the 10-day disabled list with left shoulder fatigue and left lat tightness.

It's not ideal, obviously, but the good news is Lester's shoulder and lat are structurally sound. President of baseball operations Theo Epstein expects Lester to miss "only a start or two." Mike Montgomery will slide into the Cubs' rotation in the meantime.
Aug 18 - 12:31 PM

Rays activated OF Kevin Kiermaier from the 60-day disabled list.

Kiermaier is ready to roll after missing over two months of action with a fractured hip (he also had a minor back issue last month). He was just 3-for-24 on a rehab assignment and might need a few extra days off initially, but fantasy owners should feel free to re-insert Kiermaier into their lineups. He's in center field and batting leadoff Friday.
Aug 18 - 12:29 PM

Roberto Osuna will not be available to pitch Friday due to the flu.

He's not even at the ballpark, as the Blue Jays have told Osuna to stay at the team hotel to rest. Hopefully he'll be ready to go Saturday. Ryan Tepera will close on Friday if Toronto has a save chance. Danny Barnes and Dominic Leone are also unavailable Friday due to recent usage, so the Jays are shorthanded in the bullpen.
