Michael Cuddyer (shoulder) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

The Rockies have yet to make an official announcement, but he's not listed on the lineup card for Monday's game. Cuddyer hasn't played since Thursday due to left shoulder soreness.

Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports that the Red Sox won't be one of the teams to conduct a private workout for Cuban slugger Yasmani Tomas.

Bradford hears that the Red Sox are intrigued by Tomas' power potential, but they are unlikely to make a strong bid for his services due to their outfield log jam and some concerns about his strikeout rate. Still, plenty of teams are in the mix for the 23-year-old corner outfielder, who is expected to command more than $100 million this winter. He has already had private workouts with the likes of the Phillies and Rangers and more are to come.

Sam Fuld will start in left field and bat second in Tuesday's Wild Card game against the Royals.

Athletics manager Bob Melvin has clearly prioritized defense in this one. Coco Crisp will bat leadoff and play center field and will be followed by Fuld, Josh Donaldson 3B , Brandon Moss DH, Josh Reddick RF, Brett Lowrie SS, Stephen Vogt 1B, Geovany Soto C, and Eric Sogard 2B.

Carlos Beltran underwent surgery Tuesday to remove loose pieces and a bone spur from his right elbow.

Beltran is six weeks away from hitting and throwing and 12 weeks away from playing in a game, so he should be ready for spring training. The 37-year-old attempted to play through the pain this season, but ended up with a career-low .703 OPS. Now that the issue has been taken care of, he'll make for a solid bounceback candidate in 2015.

Adam Dunn is not in the starting lineup for Tuesday's Wild Card game against the Royals.

Dunn is in the playoffs for the first time in his long career, but it looks like he'll be limited to pinch-hitter duty. The full lineup hasn't been announced yet, but Geovany Soto will catch Jon Lester while Brandon Moss will serve as DH and Sam Fuld will play left.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees "have begun the process of constructing a new contract" for general manager Brian Cashman.

Cashman has been New York's general manager for the past 17 seasons and his current contract is set to expire at the end of the month. The Yankees missed the playoffs for the second straight year despite spending big money last winter, but Olney hears that Cashman's relationship with the organization and the Steinbrenners remains strong.

Max Scherzer will start Game 1 of the ALDS against the Orioles on Thursday.

Scherzer, who went 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA during the regular season, will be opposed by Chris Tillman. Justin Verlander will start Game 2 for the Tigers while David Price will go in Game 3. Rick Porcello would start a potential Game 4.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that he expects Alex Rodriguez to be the team's third baseman next season.

Girardi did note that A-Rod isn't guaranteed the starting job at the hot corner because the club needs "to see where he is physically at." But, the skipper "absolutely" expects Rodriguez to be part of the team and thinks he'll be the regular third baseman as long as he's healthy. A-Rod, of course, missed all of this season after being suspended because of his ties with Biogenesis. Some had speculated that the Yanks might simply just cut him loose, but it appears they're not willing to just eat the $61 million A-Rod has remaining on his contract.

The Astros officially introduced A.J. Hinch as their new manager at a press conference Monday.

Hinch, who most recently served as vice president and assistant general manager with the Padres, previously managed the Diamondbacks during part of the 2009 and 2010 seasons, going 89-123. He interviewed with the Astros after the 2012 season before the team picked Bo Porter but this time beat out nine other candidates for the job. FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal says Hinch is "well-versed with the team’s emphasis on statistical analysis."

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington said Monday that the club is interested in discussing a contract extension with Yoenis Cespedes this offseason.

"It is just a conversation that we will have at the right time," Cherington said. "There is no specific date we'll plan on having that, but so far, we think the relationship is off to a good start." Cespedes, who will make $10.5 million in 2015 in his final season before free agency, said on Saturday that he's "still not sure if I want to sign an extension or if I want to go to free agency." He batted .269/.296/.423 with five homers and 33 RBI over 51 games for Boston this season and hit .260/.301/.450 with 22 bombs and a career-high 100 RBI overall between the A's and Red Sox.

Trevor Plouffe underwent surgery Monday to repair a fractured left forearm.

Plouffe injured his forearm last Wednesday and was told by one doctor that surgery wasn't necessary, but he apparently went through with the procedure after getting a second opinion. Either way, it's expected that he'll be ready for spring training.
Sep 29 - 4:35 PM

Matt Shoemaker (oblique) played catch Monday without issue and will throw another bullpen session Tuesday.

The hope is that Shoemaker will be ready to start for the Angels in Game 3 of the ALDS on October 5. He's been out since September 16 with an oblique strain. Anaheim will go with Jered Weaver and C.J. Wilson in the first two games of the Division Series.
