Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies are calling up prospect outfielder Kyle Parker.

The Rockies have yet to make an official announcement. Parker, 24, is batting .292/.347/.478 line with seven home runs and 38 RBI over 66 games in Triple-A this season. He could see playing time in the corner outfield spots with Carlos Gonzalez and Michael Cuddyer both sidelined in addition to spelling Justin Morneau at first base.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Cubs and Yankees are working to finalize an Aroldis Chapman trade.

Cubs shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres is believed to be in the package that would head to New York, along with another piece or two. Chapman, a 28-year-old impending free agent, has registered a stellar 2.01 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 44/8 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings since returning in May from a domestic violence suspension. There's a report from Rian Watt of Baseball Prospectus suggesting that the Cubs are trying to work out a contract extension with Chapman on top of the trade. That could be the major hold-up.

Trevor Story slugged his 27th homer of the year Sunday in the Rockies' 7-2 victory over the Braves.

It was a two-run shot in the fourth inning off Atlanta rookie Tyrell Jenkins. Story also doubled and scored in the first inning, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI. Only two middle infielders in major league history have registered 30-homer seasons by age 23: Alex Rodriguez and Nomar Garciaparra. Story is well on his way to becoming the third.

Hanley Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Sunday's 8-7 win over the Twins.

Ramirez clocked his three-run shot off Twins starter Tommy Milone in the third inning. He has been on an absolute molten hot streak of late and has five homers and 12 RBI over his last five games. The recent power binge has boosted his overall batting line to .282/.362/.459. He can pair that with 13 homers and 60 RBI over 340 at-bats. Ramirez has always possessed a tantalizing power bat, but he has reached the 20-homer mark just once in the last six seasons.

Hector Rondon notched his 18th save of the season Sunday in the Cubs' 5-4 defeat of the Brewers.

Rondon served up a two-out homer to Kirk Nieuwenhuis but retired the other three batters he faced in the bottom of the ninth inning at Miller Park -- two via strikeout. The right-hander holds a 1.95 ERA, 0.73 WHIP, and 48/5 K/BB ratio in 37 innings this season for the Cubs, but his days as a closer could be numbered with Theo Epstein and Co. searching the trade block for another elite late-inning arm.

Nationals optioned RHP Lucas Giolito to Triple-A Syracuse.

Giolito allowed four runs -- two earned -- over 3 1/3 innings Sunday in the Nationals' loss to the Padres. It was his third career start at the major league level. Joe Ross (shoulder) could be activated to fill the rotation vacancy later this week. Or maybe the Nats will try Reynaldo Lopez again.
Jul 24 - 6:41 PM

Nolan Reimold launched a pinch-hit, walkoff two-run homer to end Sunday's 5-3 win over the Indians.

Pinch-hitting for Julio Borbon, Reimold sent the fans home happy when he connected for a walkoff blast against Tribe reliever Cody Allen with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Those heroics are fine and dandy, but for the season, the veteran outfielder has collected just five homers and 13 RBI over 142 at-bats. He does not hold any fantasy value of note.

Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports that the Padres are "pushing hard" to trade Derek Norris.

The Padres like what they've seen out of Christian Bethancourt and Austin Hedges is killing the ball in the minors this season, so it makes sense that they'd want to shop Norris. The 27-year-old has hit an underwhelming .204/.263/.379 this season and is starting to get more expensive in arbitration, but there will surely be some teams that view him as an upgrade to their catching situation. SB Nation's Chris Cotillo hears that the Astros like Norris but "it's unclear if talks are active."

Jay Bruce went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run, four RBI and three runs scored in Sunday's 9-8 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Bruce came through with an RBI single in the third inning for his first RBI. The other three would come when he slugged a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth with nobody out. That shot drew the Reds to within 9-8. They failed to scrape together a run to tie it up, though, falling to 38-60 in the process. That is through no fault of Mr. Jay Bruce, who is slashing a stellar .269/.324/.547 with 21 homers and 73 RBI over 349 at-bats.

The Astros announced that they will call up top prospect Alex Bregman prior to Monday's game versus the Yankees.

Finally, after weeks (months, really) of speculation, Bregman is set to make his major league debut. Astros manager A.J. Hinch admitted that he's not sure yet where Bregman will play but the former first-rounder has seen time at shortstop, third base and left field in the minors this season. Rest assured, he'll play regularly wherever it may be. Bregman has batted .306/.406/.580 with 20 homers and seven steals between Double- and Triple-A this season and needs to be picked up in any fantasy leagues where he's still available.

Jose Altuve went yard twice Sunday as the Astros routed the Angels 13-3 at Minute Maid Park.

Altuve slugged both of his homers off Angels starter Tim Lincecum, who left the game after recording only four outs. Lincecum gave up a total of eight runs on two walks and seven hits. Altuve also added an RBI single in the fifth, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two runs scored and six RBI. The second baseman is slashing .360/.428/.575 with 17 homers, 60 RBI, and 75 runs scored in 98 games this season.

Matt Carpenter (oblique) could begin a rehab assignment later this week.

Carpenter resumed some baseball activities on Friday and evidently has responded well. He shouldn't need too many rehab games before being activated, so a return within the next week or so would seem to be a possibility. Carpenter has missed the last two and a half weeks with a right oblique strain.
