Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said after Tuesday's game that Shelby Miller (back) is expected to be ready for his next scheduled start.

Miller exiting Tuesday's contests in the third inning with back spasms, but it was a precautionary move. The young right-hander will take a 3.75 ERA into Sunday's start against Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers.

Erasmo Ramirez allowed two runs and gave up five hits in his seven innings of work against the Mets on Tuesday.

Ramirez made the most of his recent call-up, striking out a season-high ten and walking just two as he lowered his ERA to 4.35. He had the misfortune of facing off against Jacob deGrom, who matched him pitch-for-pitch and ended up with the win, dropping Ramirez to 1-5 on the season. We'll see if the quality effort leads to a few more starts. Prior to this start, his last work had come against the Red Sox in late June.
Jul 23 - 1:10 AM

Rick Porcello pitched seven innings of three-run ball in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Diamondbacks.

The start was almost identical to his last start (against the Royals), as Porcello scattered five hits and struck out five without walking a batter in Arizona. Had Detroit's bullpen held onto a 5-3 eighth inning lead, Porcello would have picked up his thirteenth win. Alas, it was not to be. While he's only striking out 5.05 per nine innings, he's also posting the lowest WHIP of his career (1.18) to go with his 3.42 ERA. Porcello takes on the Angels in his next start.
Jul 23 - 1:05 AM

Adam LaRoche went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to help the Nationals top the Rockies by a score of 7-4 on Tuesday.

With the score tied 4-4 in the seventh inning, LaRoche deposited a Rex Brothers pitch into the right field seats to give the Nationals their first lead of the game. They ended up winning by the same margin. The homer was the first this month for the 34-year-old, but he has 13 home runs and 51 RBI to go with a respectable .275/.381/.453 line on the season.
Jul 23 - 1:03 AM

Tim Lincecum notched the first save of his eight-year career, coming into Tuesday's game in the 14th inning and getting the final two outs for a Giants win.

George Kontos started off the inning, but got into trouble when Ryan Howard singled to lead off the frame and Wil Nieves doubled with one out to put runners at second and third. Lincecum allowed Howard to score on a ground out, then walked Cameron Rupp, but was able to get Domonic Brown to ground out to first to end the game. As a starter, Lincecum had made strides lately, and now sports a 3.65 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 108/47 K/BB ratio. Lincecum started on Sunday but should be able to make his next scheduled start on Friday against the Dodgers at home.
Jul 23 - 1:00 AM

Brandon Crawford cleared the bases with a double to break a 3-3 tie in the 14th inning as the Giants defeated the Phillies on Tuesday.

Crawford took advantage of a struggling Jeff Manship, lacing a two-out double to left-center to give the Giants an 8-5 lead. They would tack on one more run just for good measure. Crawford had previously knocked in a run with a ground out and finished 2-for-6 on the night. The shortstop is slashing .239/.323/.413 with eight home runs and 44 RBI on the season.
Jul 23 - 12:56 AM

Ryan Zimmerman will undergo an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game against the Rockies with a strained right hamstring.

It's looking like Zimmerman is headed to the disabled list, but the Nationals won't know for sure until the test results come back. It would be his second trip to the DL this season, as he missed nearly two months with a fractured thumb. The Nats would go back to Anthony Rendon at third base and Danny Espinosa at second if Zimmerman is on the shelf for a while.
Jul 23 - 12:33 AM

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in the Royals' 7-1 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

When it rains, it pours for Moustakas -- he'd hit just two home runs since June 21 and he hadn't driven in a run in his past eight games prior to Tuesday's outburst. The homers give Moustakas 12 home runs on the season to go with a .198/.262/.391 line. Games like Tuesday's remind of his potential, but the third baseman is just too inconsistent to be relied upon in fantasy realms.
Jul 23 - 12:31 AM

Chase Headley made his Yankees debut in style, delivering a walk-off single in the 14th inning against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Headley took his first at-bat as a Yankee in the eighth inning and struck out. He stayed in the game, grounding out twice in his next two at-bats before driving in Brian Roberts with his 14th-inning single. The Yankees acquired Headley earlier in the day. Overall, he is slashing .230/.296/.353 with seven home runs and 45 RBI on the season.
Jul 23 - 12:04 AM

Carlos Santana went 4-for-5 with a home run and nine total bases as the Indians cruised past the Twins 8-2 on Tuesday.

Santana had just three extra-base hits in his previous nine games, but the 28-year-old added two doubles to go with his 15th home run of the year. If anything, he deserved to have an even better night from a statistical standpoint -- the homer came with nobody on, and his other three hits drove in just one run combined. The four-hit evening raised his season line to .214/.353/.401.
Jul 23 - 12:01 AM

Kyle Gibson has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start against the Indians due to a stiff back.

He should be fine for his next outing or maybe even later in the week, but the Twins wanted to play it safe. Anthony Swarzak will make a spot start in Gibson's place.
Jul 22 - 11:56 PM

Jonathan Lucroy's second home run of the game also served to give the Brewers a 4-3, walk-off victory over the Reds on Tuesday.

Lucroy homered off Reds starter Homer Bailey in the sixth inning, and leading off the ninth he took reliever Sam LeCure out to send the fans home happy. The homers were his first since July 4, also against the Reds. The All-Star catcher has now got 11 home runs to go with a .310/.381/.500 line on the year.
