Twins activated OF Aaron Hicks from the 15-day disabled list; optioned him to Double-A New Britain.

Hicks' shoulder injury kept him from being sent down earlier, so it's no surprise that he's been assigned to the minors now that he's healthy. The fact that he was sent to Double-A is probably just because he was already rehabbing there. He should be up to Triple-A Rochester shortly. Hicks is hitting only .198/.338/.262 this season with the big club.

Adam Frazier went 2-for-2 with a homer and four walks as the Pirates beat the Braves 12-5 in 10 innings Wednesday.

That sure is a nice game. Frazier joins J.D. Martinez as the only players this year with a homer and four walks in a game (Martinez actually had two homers in his). George Springer was the lone player to do it last year. Frazier is now batting .370 in his 92 at-bats. He doesn't have the home run or steal ability to be a major asset in mixed leagues, but he seems poised to remain a fine leadoff man for the Pirates.
May 25 - 12:33 AM

Tyler Chatwood allowed just one base hit and struck out eight batters in seven shutout innings to beat the Phillies 7-2 on Wednesday.

He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning when catcher Andrew Knapp singled. Chatwood walked four batters and picked one of them off base. He threw 112 pitches and had to be pulled after seven innings. His record improves to 4-6 with a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP. He will face the Mariners and Padres in a two-start week coming up next.
May 25 - 12:04 AM

Carlos Gonzalez went 3-for-5 and crushed a three-run bomb against the Phillies on Wednesday.

His big blast was the crowning blow in his team's seven-run, third-inning outburst. He has really struggled this season but has shown signs of life in recent games. He has his batting average up to .252 with four home runs and 16 RBI through 184 plate appearances. He hit 25 home runs last year and 40 the year before.
May 24 - 11:54 PM

Luis Severino dominated the Royals for eight shutout frames in a 3-0 victory on Wednesday.

He struck out seven batters while allowing four hits and one walk in the gem. He allowed only one runner to even reach second base. Severino improves to 3-2 with a 3.11 ERA after nine starts. He has 61 strikeouts and 14 walks in 55 innings pitched. The 23-year-old has made massive improvements after going 3-8 with a 5.83 ERA last year.
May 24 - 11:34 PM

Steven Souza drove in three runs with a pair of homers in a 5-2 victory over the Angels on Wednesday.

He hit a two-run jack in the second inning and teamed up with Colby Rasmus to hit back-to-back solo shots in the seventh frame. Both longballs were served up by starter Ricky Nolasco. Souza has turned himself into a useful fantasy outfielder this year by batting .255/.365/.458 with seven home runs and 26 RBI in 182 plate appearances.
May 24 - 10:59 PM

Tanner Roark allowed one run in seven innings pitched to beat the Mariners 5-1 on Wednesday.

He gave up a run-scoring single to Robinson Cano in the first inning and then clamped down to toss a subsequent six scoreless frames. He gave up eight base hits, did not issue a walk and punched out eight batters in the masterful effort. It was a nice turnaround after he allowed seven runs in his last outing. Roark improved to 4-2 with a 4.32 ERA and 1.32 WHIP in 10 starts. He has 50 strikeouts and 21 walks in 58 1/3 innings.
May 24 - 10:24 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury left Wednesday's game against the Royals with a concussion and neck sprain.

Ellsbury made a fantastic catch on a deep Alcides Escobar fly ball to lead off the game, before colliding with the center field wall. He stayed in for defense through to the end of the top of the first, but was subsequently replaced in the field by Aaron Hicks. This injury could potentially land him on the 7-day concussion disabled list. He will be reevaluated on Thursday.
May 24 - 8:26 PM

Manuel Margot left Wednesday's game against the Mets due to a sore right calf.

After Margot came down with tightness in his right leg, Matt Szczur took over for him in center field. He should be considered day-to-day moving forward unless the Padres indicate otherwise.
May 24 - 8:14 PM

Jose Abreu went 4-for-5 with a two-run home run and three total RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 loss to the Diamondbacks.

Abreu fell a triple short of the cycle in this monster showing. He drove in his runs with a no-doubt two-run homer to right which traveled an estimated 441 feet in the sixth inning and an RBI single in the seventh. Through 44 games played, the slugger is working to a .291/.347/.531 triple-slash with 10 homers and 27 RBI. Five of those 10 home runs have come in his last 10 games.
May 24 - 6:57 PM

Jed Lowrie went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Marlins.

Lowrie did a nice job giving the A's bullpen a little bit of insurance, bumping his crew to a 3-1 advantage with an RBI double in the fifth inning and increasing it to 4-1 with his RBI single in the seventh. He has been wielding a sizzling bat of late, having picked up 13 hits in his last 25 at-bats. In that space, he has doubled four times, homered twice and driven in six runs. He is slashing .300/.368/.488 with six homers and 15 RBI for the season as a whole.
May 24 - 6:28 PM

Sonny Gray was brilliant in Wednesday's 4-1 win over the Marlins, surrendering just one run while striking out 11 over seven innings.

Gray allowed just three hits on the afternoon. The lone run to score on his watch came when Dee Gordon scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. After failing to strike out more than four in any of his first three starts, Gray has fanned 19 in his last two outings (covering 13 innings). He will look to build on Wednesday's brilliance when he carries his 3.34 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 28/8 K/BB ratio into a road date with the Indians next time he takes to the mound.
