Orioles optioned RHP Kevin Gausman to Triple-A Norfolk.

Gausman allowed one run over 5 1/3 innings against the Red Sox on Sunday, so it's not anything he did, but the Orioles are in need of an arm for their bullpen because the game went to extra innings. The young right-hander is expected to make at least one start in Triple-A. Don't give up on him yet in deeper fantasy leagues. He should be back soon.

Jonathan Lucroy hit a three-run double in the sixth on Friday, finishing 2-for-4 in the win over the Cardinals.

Lucroy's bases-clearing double knocked Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright out of the game and ended up being the final margin, as the Brewers won 7-4. In addition to the three runs knocked in, Lucroy also scored twice. The fourth year player is having a fantastic season, especially for a catcher. July wasn't a kind month to Lucroy, as he slashed .207/.271/.414, but even if he continues to cool off from his current overall line of .308/.376/.495, he's still giving you production that rivals almost any catcher in the bigs.

Adam Wainwright was crushed to the tune of seven runs over five and a third innings in his loss to the Brewers on Friday.

Ouch. Wainwright allowed nine hits and walked three. The blow that knocked him out was a three-run double by Jonathan Lucroy with one out in the sixth. This start actually marks the second time in his last three outings that Wainwright has given up six or more runs. The Rays scored six against Wainwright two starts ago. Even the best go through the occasional rough patch. Unless word of an injury surfaces, there's no need for concern here. Wainwright boasts a 13-6 record and 2.26 ERA. He'll try to right the ship against the Red Sox in his next start. World Series rematch!
Aug 2 - 1:40 AM

Chris Sale gave up five runs over six innings of work in a no-decision against the Twins on Friday.

It's rare to see the White Sox ace get roughed up. Coming into Friday's start, he was on a roll of five consecutive starts in which he'd gone at least seven innings. He had only given up five earned runs over that stretch, a number he nearly matched on Friday (only four of the five runs on Sale's line were earned). Sale was victimized by extra-base hits, surrendering doubles to Kurt Suzuki, Kennys Vargas and Eduardo Escobar. Despite the subpar start, Sale holds a 2.09 ERA and a 10-1 record.
Aug 2 - 12:54 AM

Gregorio Petit blasted his first career home run in the eighth inning on Friday, powering the Astros to a 3-1 victory over the Blue Jays.

With Marwin Gonzalez still recovering from a hamstring injury and needing an occasional day off, Petit got the start at shortstop and delivered the biggest blow of the ballgame with his eighth inning shot off Aaron Loup to break a 1-1 tie. He has done a nice job in his limited time with the Astros, going 4-for-13 (.308).
Aug 2 - 12:08 AM

Allen Craig went 1-for-4 with a double on Friday in his first game with Boston.

Craig hit the double off of Yankee starter Chris Capuano. While his slash line on the season is a disappointing .237/.291/.346, it will be interesting to see if he can bounce back with a new club and some fresh surroundings. Prior to this season, Craig had not hit under .300 since his rookie season (2010)and was putting up slugging percentages of .450 and higher.
Aug 1 - 11:55 PM

Adrian Gonzalez was removed from Friday's game against the Cubs after suffering an injury while sliding into home plate.

No word yet on the effected area or the potential severity of the injury. He was replaced by Scott Van Slyke at first base. The Dodgers should provide an update on his status shortly.
Aug 1 - 11:34 PM

Mike Trout blasted his 25th home run of the season on Friday, powering the Angels to a 5-3 victory over the Rays.

Trout got the scoring started in a hurry, taking Jeremy Hellickson deep for a two-run homer in the first inning. He finished the night 2-for-4 and is now slashing an impressive .302/.392/.587 with 25 long balls and 78 RBI on the year.
Aug 1 - 11:11 PM

Anthony Ranaudo picked up his first major league win on Friday, allowing two runs in six innings against the Yankees.

Not only was it his first major league win, it was his first major league start, and it came against the Yankees no less. He walked four and recorded two strikeout. Carlos Beltran accounted for both runs against Ranaudo, with a solo home run in the fourth and RBI single in the sixth. Ranaudo is one of the beneficiaries of Boston's decision to do away with almost their entire rotation. The 6'7" righty had recorded a 2.41 ERA and a 12-4 record through 21 starts at Triple-A Pawtucket.
Aug 1 - 10:56 PM

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 26th home run of the season, going for 1-for-3 in Friday's 5-2 loss to the Reds.

Stanton hit the eighth inning tater off Jonathan Broxton. Unfortunately for the Marlins, it was just a solo shot when they were already down 4-1. The RBI was Stanton's 74th of the year. Stanton remains one of the most dangerous bats in the bigs, and he's slashing .293/.394/.552 on the season.
Aug 1 - 10:49 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera went 0-for-4 on Friday in his first game with the Nationals.

No shame in that for Cabrera, as most of his new teammates weren't doing much better in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Phillies. Cabrera started at second base and batted seventh. With the Indians, he hit to the tune of .246/.305/.386.
Aug 1 - 10:24 PM

Wei-Yin Chen delivered another impressive outing in Friday's victory over the Mariners, allowing just one run on five hits over 7 1/3 innings of work.

The veteran left-hander punched out eight on the night while walking only one. The only blemish on his evening was an RBI double by Kendrys Morales in the fourth inning. Now 12-3 on the season, he'll head into Thursday's start against the Blue Jays in Toronto with a 3.76 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 90/21 K/BB ratio.
