Dan Uggla has been suspended by the Braves for one game.

There's no official word on what the suspension is for, but David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is hearing it's for tardiness. It was O'Brien that reported Uggla could be designated for assignment, but evidently the club isn't ready to make that move yet. Uggla has received just 20 at-bats since May 23 and has one hit over that time.

Scott Kazmir surrendered three earned runs in his three-inning Cactus League start Sunday versus the Rangers.

Kazmir walked five and gave up three hits, including a two-run homer to Rangers first baseman Mike Napoli in the bottom of the third inning. The veteran left-hander had been held out of Cactus League action for nearly three weeks due to hip discomfort and mechanical issues, and he had trouble topping 85 mph with his fastball on Sunday. We can't recommend drafting Kazmir in any standard fantasy format.

Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times expects Corey Dickerson to begin the season as the Rays' leadoff hitter against right-handers.

Topkin projects Kevin Kiermaier to remain in the No. 2 spot and Dickerson to precede him. It's obviously very favorable news for Dickerson for fantasy purposes, as he slugged 22 home runs against righties last season and is a career .288/.335/.552 hitter against them. Dickerson entered Grapefruit League play on Sunday batting .367/.392/.633 with four longballs this spring.

Kolten Wong said Sunday that he would "100 percent" rather be traded than be platooned at second base.

It was one of a host of scathing comments from Wong in the wake of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny saying Saturday that the club would consider a platoon at second base. "I honestly don't give a (censored)," Wong said when asked about the team mulling over a platoon. Wong added that he doesn't want to be "wasting my time" with the Cards if they don't have faith in him. They're words Wong probably shouldn't have aired in public, but you can understand his frustration after the club essentially committed to him as the regular second baseman this winter. That said, Wong could make it all a moot point if he simply played better. He sports an underwhelming career .248/.309/.370 batting line and entered Sunday hitting just .182/.265/.250 this spring.

Khris Davis (quad) is playing in a minor league game Sunday.

Davis has dealt with a sore quad for a few days, but the A's have insisted that it's a minor injury. Assuming all goes well Sunday, he should be cleared to return to Cactus League games this week. Davis is coming off a breakout power season for Oakland that saw him pop 42 longballs.
Mar 26 - 1:23 PM

Raisel Iglesias (elbow, hips) played catch Saturday and is expected to resume throwing off a mound soon.

Iglesias fell in the shower a few weeks ago and has dealt with a sore pitching elbow and hips since, but he's making nice progress. Reds manager Bryan Price indicated Sunday that the reliever has a shot to be ready for Opening Day. Iglesias is first in line for saves if healthy, although the Reds aren't planning to name a set closer.
Mar 26 - 11:58 AM

Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday that it's very unlikely Devin Mesoraco (hip, shoulder) will be ready for Opening Day.

That has been the expectation for a while now, as Mesoraco simply hasn't gotten enough work this spring with just 14 at-bats and zero full games under his belt. He would seem to have a chance to be ready sometime in April, although the Reds will ease him into action once he's on the active roster. Cincy is slated to open the year with Tucker Barnhart and Rule 5 pick Stuart Turner at catcher.

Yankees released LHP Jon Niese.

Niese got a late start to spring training while working his way back from knee surgery, which kept him from ever being under real consideration for one of the open spots in the Yankees' rotation. The club is open to the left-hander sticking around as depth at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as he builds up stamina, although it's unclear whether Niese is considering that.
Mar 26 - 11:48 AM

Eduardo Nunez (shoulder) is back in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Nunez has been dealing with soreness in his right shoulder all camp and had a cortisone shot Wednesday. He's in the designated hitter spot Sunday but hopefully should be ready to resume third base duties soon. Nunez is optimistic he'll be ready to go on Opening Day, but it probably can't be considered a given.
Mar 26 - 11:32 AM

Alex Cobb was scratched from a scheduled start in a minor league game Sunday due to lower back tightness.

It's obviously not ideal this close to Opening Day, although Cobb doesn't think it will affect his ability to start the third game of the season as scheduled. Cobb holds a 3.95 ERA over four starts this spring.
Mar 26 - 11:08 AM

Stephen Strasburg has been named the Nationals' Opening Day starter.

It's a no-brainer with Max Scherzer not quite ready for the opener (Scherzer is in line to start the Nats' third game). Strasburg will be making his fourth Opening Day start. He posted a 3.60 ERA and 183/44 K/BB ratio over 147 2/3 innings for the Nationals last season.
Mar 26 - 10:26 AM

Steven Matz will not make his next scheduled Grapefruit League start due to irritation in his left elbow.

The Mets are adamant that Matz doesn't have anything structurally wrong, but general manager Sandy Alderson admitted that "it's worrisome that he continues to be injured." Matz had surgery to remove a bone spur from his elbow last October and also had Tommy John surgery a few years back. The left-hander won't undergo an MRI, and he's slated to play catch on Monday. Even if Matz progresses well over the next week, a disabled list stint would seem to be a distinct possibility. It would free up a spot in the Mets' rotation for Seth Lugo.
