Red Sox released C A.J. Pierzynski.

Not surprisingly, the Red Sox were unable to find a trade partner after designating Pierzynski for assignment. The 37-year-old hit just .254/.286/.348 with four homers over 72 games for Boston, but he can be had at the veteran minimum now and should be scooped up by someone. However, he might not be able to find a starting job.

Bryce Harper is not in the Nationals' lineup Monday.

It's Harper's first day off of the season, as he had started each of the team's first 18 games. The timing is unfortunate for his fantasy owners given that the day off comes at Coors Field. Adam Eaton will slide over to right field and Michael Taylor will get a start in center. The Nationals also have Jose Lobaton at catcher over Matt Wieters.
Apr 24 - 5:12 PM

Salvador Perez (neck) is back in the Royals' lineup Sunday.

Perez missed a couple games with a stiff neck. He's catching and batting fifth against Miguel Gonzalez and the White Sox.
Apr 24 - 4:50 PM

Zach Britton (forearm) will throw a full bullpen session on Wednesday.

That's assuming he feels fine Tuesday following Monday's flat-ground session. The Orioles are saying Britton will be re-evaluated after Wednesday's bullpen session but they didn't indicate whether a short rehab assignment might be the next step or if he might just be activated. We'll know more in a few days.
Apr 24 - 4:48 PM

Jake Odorizzi (hamstring) is on track to rejoin the Rays' rotation on May 1 in Miami.

Odorizzi threw a bullpen session over the weekend and will go through a four-inning simulated game on Tuesday. The right-hander says the strained left hamstring that put him on the disabled list is no longer an issue. Odorizzi posted a 4.15 ERA in his first 13 innings for the Rays before the injury.
Apr 24 - 4:43 PM

Dustin Pedroia (knee, ankle) is considered day-to-day after being examined Monday at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Good news for the Red Sox. Pedroia was spiked in the leg by Orioles third baseman Manny Machado on Friday and came down with soreness in his left knee and ankle, but it doesn't sound like he'll be sidelined much longer.
Apr 24 - 3:22 PM

Pablo Sandoval (knee) will undergo an MRI on Monday.

Sandoval exited Sunday's game against the Orioles with what was termed as a right knee sprain. He was initially called day-to-day, but there should be more clarity on his status soon.
Apr 24 - 3:19 PM

David Price (elbow) threw 45 pitches in a bullpen session on Monday.

Price got up and down three times to simulate breaks between innings. The veteran southpaw was recently slowed down a bit due to some soreness in his elbow, but appears to be past it now. Facing hitters should be the next step, but more should be known on Tuesday.
Apr 24 - 3:08 PM

Seth Smith (hamstring) has returned to the Orioles' lineup for Monday's game against the Rays.

Smith hasn't played since last Tuesday due to a right hamstring strain. He'll bat leadoff in his return Monday against Rays ace Chris Archer.
Apr 24 - 2:54 PM

Aaron Nola (back) is only expected to miss 1-2 starts.

Nola felt some soreness in his lower back during his most recent start Thursday against the Mets and it lingered during a side session Sunday, so the Phillies don't want to take any chances. He could return as soon as next Monday. Ty Kelly is expected to take his place on the active roster, but Nick Pivetta will likely take his spot in the rotation on Wednesday.
Apr 24 - 1:36 PM

Angels acquired RHP David Hernandez from the Braves for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Angels are missing Cam Bedrosian, Huston Street, Andrew Bailey, and Mike Morin to injury at the moment, so Hernandez will provide an experienced arm for the bullpen. The 31-year-old had a 1.12 ERA and 9/2 K/BB ratio over eight innings with the Braves' Triple-A affiliate. He could join the major league roster soon.
Apr 24 - 1:22 PM

Mets manager Terry Collins said after Sunday's game that Yoenis Cespedes (hamstring) told him he'll be ready for Tuesday.

Cespedes sat out the entire weekend series against the Nationals due to a sore left hamstring, but he was available as a pinch-hitter for Sunday's game and was in the on-deck circle before the final out. It's not a sure thing he'll be ready for Tuesday, as the Mets will have him go through a pre-game workout before making a final decision. Still, he's sorely missed at the moment, as the Mets have dropped eight out of their last nine.
