FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Mariners' trade talks for Marlon Byrd have "stalled."

The M's are now said to be in discussions with the Rays for David Price and/or Ben Zobrist. Byrd has hit .263/.315/.479 with 18 home runs and 54 RBI in 94 games this season for the Phillies, who could be one of the biggest sellers at the July 31 trade deadline. Byrd signed a two-year, $16 million contract over the winter.

Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) could potentially return from the disabled list when first eligible on May 19.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that an MRI revealed a "one-plus" grade right hamstring strain for A-Rod, so it was good news all things considered. The club figures to have a better idea by next week whether Rodriguez returning in mid-May is realistic.

Pirates activated INF Jung Ho Kang from the 15-day disabled list.

Kang has completed his rehab from a nasty leg injury from last September that resulted in a torn meniscus and fractured tibia. He's starting at third base and batting sixth against the Cardinals on Friday, although he's only expected to start two out of every three games initially. David Freese will see a drop in playing time with Kang back.
May 6 - 3:49 PM

Devin Mesoraco will undergo surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder.

It was a labrum tear in his hip that ended his 2015 campaign and now Mesoraco is facing another lost season. The recovery time is a minimum of four months, so the catcher is effectively done for 2016. He's hit only .158/.245/.200 across just 106 plate appearances since the beginning of 2015. Tucker Barnhart and Ramon Cabrera will handle the catching duties with Mesoraco on the shelf.
May 6 - 3:30 PM

Justin Bour (finger) remained out of the Marlins' lineup Friday.

Bour is still recovering from a dislocated left pinkie finger, although he hopes to play this weekend. Chris Johnson is handling first base in his place.
May 6 - 2:46 PM

Yankees placed LHP CC Sabathia on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 5, with a left groin strain.

Sabathia is coming off his best start of the season, having tossed seven scoreless frames against the Orioles, but he apparently injured himself in the outing. He's expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks. Ivan Nova will replace Sabathia in the Yankees' rotation.
May 6 - 2:40 PM

Domingo Santana (shoulder) remained out of the Brewers' lineup Friday.

He's been out of the lineup for four out of the last five games due to soreness in his right lat. Santana pinch-hit in Thursday's game, so he's presumably available off the bench Friday. Alex Presley is filling in again in right field.
May 6 - 2:25 PM

Athletics activated 3B Danny Valencia from the 15-day disabled list.

Valencia spent the minimum amount of time on the DL and homered in one of his two rehab games. He'll return to a .294/.345/.353 batting line with the A's and will resume his role as the starting third baseman.
May 6 - 12:07 PM

Nationals activated OF Ben Revere from the 15-day disabled list.

Revere missed a little over a month of action with a strained right oblique. He's back in center field and leading off for the Nationals on Friday against the Cubs and John Lackey.
May 6 - 11:05 AM

Jason Heyward (wrist) is back in the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Heyward missed four starts with a sore right wrist, although he replaced Dexter Fowler during Thursday's game after Fowler was ejected. The 26-year-old is hitting just .207/.311/.250 so far this season. The Cubs also have Javier Baez at shortstop and Tommy La Stella at third base Friday, with Addison Russell and Jorge Soler on the bench and Kris Bryant in left field.
May 6 - 10:38 AM

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Garrett Richards has a torn right ulnar collateral ligament and is expected to need Tommy John surgery.

Multiple other outlets have confirmed the report. The Angels cited fatigue and dehydration when they scratched Richards from Friday's scheduled start versus the Rays, but Passan says they found the UCL tear while examining the righty on Thursday. It's absolutely brutal news for the club, as Richards is far and away their best starter. Assuming he goes under the knife, he would be sidelined until around midseason next year. Passan says that Andrew Heaney has UCL damage, too, but will try to rehab the injury for now. The Angels should have an update on their pitchers later Friday.

Nick Hundley (oblique) will be re-evaluated Friday before the Rockies determine whether he'll need a stint on the disabled list.

Hundley tweaked his left oblique during batting practice Thursday and had to be scratched from the lineup. "I've been feeling good physically, so it's frustrating on that end," Hundley said Thursday. "I'll have to check and see how it feels tomorrow. I cut batting practice a little bit short and I was going to go until it got worse." Dustin Garneau will be recalled if Hundley goes on the DL and he'd be in line to share time behind the plate with Tony Wolters.
