Rob Bradford of WEEI.com hears that the Phillies are "currently showing no inclination" to trade Cole Hamels.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reported over the weekend that the Red Sox have been scouting Hamels. However, Bradford says that while Boston checked in on the left-hander's availability earlier this season, they haven't had any recent discussions with the Phillies. Even if Philly indeed hasn't placed Hamels on the trade block, they could always be persuaded if a team gives them a good enough offer.

Orioles designated RHP Bud Norris for assignment.

Norris lost his rotation spot earlier this month and holds a 7.06 ERA on the season. The Orioles should be able to find a trade partner for him, although they'll surely have to eat some of his $8.8 million salary.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that talks between the Yankees and Padres regarding Craig Kimbrel "broke down" on Thursday.

ESPN's Buster Olney adds that the two sides haven't had any talks on Friday, so it appears that ship might have sailed. The Yankees are still in the market for a reliever, though, with Carter Capps and possibly Aroldis Chapman piquing their interest.

Rangers acquired LHP Cole Hamels, LHP Jake Diekman and cash from the Phillies for C Jorge Alfaro, RHP Jake Thompson, OF Nick Williams, RHP Alec Asher, LHP Matt Harrison and RHP Jerad Eickhoff.

The Rangers have themselves a co-ace with Yu Darvish to put in front of their 2016 rotation, and since the Phillies ate $9.5 million of the $82 million he's still owed and took back Harrison's $33 million, he won't break the budget. Of course, they had to give up three top prospects to get him, but since they managed to hold on to their two best in Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara, it's hard to blame them for making the deal. They'd still seem to be long shots to reach the postseason this year, but this can't hurt their chances. Hamels loses some fantasy value with the deal, since he's going to the tougher league and a hitter's park, but at least he's looking at getting run support for the first time in years.

Blue Jays placed 2B Devon Travis on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 29, with a left shoulder strain.

Travis re-injured his left shoulder on Tuesday. He was given a cortisone shot in hopes that he'd be able to power through the ailment, but apparently it hasn't had the desired effect. It's unclear at this point how long he might be sidelined.
Jul 31 - 12:25 PM

Cardinals acquired RHP Jonathan Broxton and cash considerations from the Brewers in exchange for OF Malik Collymore.

Broxton holds an ugly 5.89 ERA for the season, but he's struck out a batter per inning and been very good of late, allowing runs in just one of his last 10 appearances. He's another bullpen depth addition after they acquired Steve Cishek last week.
Jul 31 - 12:16 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal was told by one source that there's a "50/50" chance the Orioles trade for Ben Revere.

The O's have already added Gerardo Parra, but they're still seeking some outfield help. Revere has also been connected with the Blue Jays, but it sounds like their interest has died down a bit. He's under team control through 2017.
Jul 31 - 12:02 PM

FOX Sports' Jon Morosi reports that the Dodgers are in "ongoing trade talks" with the Rangers involving Yovani Gallardo.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reported earlier Friday that the chances of a Gallardo deal are "50/50." The Dodgers' rotation is full following the additions of Alex Wood and Mat Latos, so the club would figure to make an additional trade should they acquire Gallardo.
Jul 31 - 11:04 AM

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reports that the Diamondbacks are considered a "long shot" to land Aroldis Chapman, as the Reds "now have stronger offers."

It's unclear which teams made the other offers, but CBS Sports' Jon Heyman notes that the Astros are in the mix and Chapman has also been connected to the Yankees. The flamethrower would obviously move into the closer role wherever he goes, so Luke Gregorson or Andrew Miller could be headed to a setup role.
Jul 31 - 10:56 AM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are "closing in" on a trade for Gerardo Parra in exchange for pitching prospect Zach Davies.

CBS Sport' Jon Heyman says the deal is done, pending physicals. Parra has turned into a nice trade chip for Milwaukee by batting .328/.369/.517 with nine homers and nine stolen bases this season. The O's are also after Ben Revere as they look to remake their corner outfield spots.
Jul 31 - 10:30 AM

Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com reports that the Mets and Reds are "pretty far along" on a trade involving Jay Bruce.

Rubin says the two clubs are reviewing medicals on all the players involved, so it sounds like something could be completed soon. Acquiring Bruce means the Mets would move Curtis Granderson to center field and Juan Lagares to the bench. Bruce is under team control through 2017.
Jul 31 - 9:48 AM

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports that the Red Sox are in the market for cost-controlled young pitching and "like Tyson Ross a lot."

They've also talked to the Indians about Carlos Carrasco. We haven't heard much from the Red Sox this week since they're out of the playoff hunt, with Crasnick saying they're "operating very quietly" in their pursuit of young rotation help. Ross, who is under team control through 2017, would certainly fit the bill.
