Victor Martinez is back in the Tigers' lineup Friday.

Martinez hasn't played since July 4 due to a strained oblique, but the Tigers waited it out and will get a couple extra games out of V-Mart than they would have had he been placed on the DL. V-Mart is sporting a robust .328/.391/.599 batting line with 21 homers and 55 RBI in 80 games this season.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman reports that the Padres "are fielding calls from a lot of teams" on James Shields but "nothing appears imminent" regarding a trade.

Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Saturday that the Padres were discussing a Shields trade with the White Sox and there was "significant momentum" in getting something done. While Heyman appears to be pumping the brakes a bit, it does look like something is cooking with the veteran right-hander. Shields has posted a 3.06 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 56/23 K/BB ratio over 64 2/3 innings this season. He's in the second season of a four-year, $75 million contract and the Padres would likely have to eat some of that money in order to move him.
May 29 - 1:20 PM

Carlos Correa is not in the Astros' lineup Sunday.

Correa has just four hits over his last 37 at-bats, so he'll get a day off to regroup. Marwin Gonzalez is at shortstop Sunday. The Astros also have Evan Gattis at catcher in place of Jason Castro.
May 29 - 1:14 PM

David Ortiz (foot) was a late scratch from the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Ortiz is a little sore after being hit on the left foot by a pitch Saturday. Consider him day-to-day. Hanley Ramirez will now serve as the designated hitter, with Travis Shaw handling first base and Josh Rutledge entering the lineup at third.
May 29 - 12:46 PM

Ryan Braun is not in the Brewers' lineup for the second straight day Sunday due to neck stiffness/soreness.

Add another injury to the list. Braun has also battled back and wrist injuries this season and has played just six out of the last 14 games. He's been outstanding when healthy, batting .351/.424/.583 with nine home runs. Braun's name keeps popping up in trade rumors, but his inability to stay on the field could hurt his market.
May 29 - 12:35 PM

Diamondbacks recalled RHP Archie Bradley from Triple-A Reno.

He will start on Sunday against the Padres in place of Shelby Miller (finger). Bradley holds a 6.26 ERA over 10 starts at the major league level, but he's put up a 1.99 ERA with 47 strikeouts over 40 2/3 frames at Reno this season. With Rubby De La Rosa (elbow) also on the shelf, Bradley could stick in the rotation for a while if he pitches well. He's worth a look in deeper formats.
May 29 - 12:19 PM

Kendrys Morales (finger) is back in the Royals' lineup Sunday.

Morales hasn't played since Tuesday due to a sprained right finger, but he took batting practice Sunday without any issues. He's in the designated hitter spot and hitting fifth against Chris Sale and the White Sox.
May 29 - 12:04 PM

C.J. Wilson will be shut down indefinitely after feeling soreness in his pitching arm during a bullpen session Saturday.

Wilson was initially diagnosed with biceps tendinitis, although more details will be available after he undergoes an MRI. He admitted to feeling fatigue toward the end of his rehab start Wednesday and then said he felt "awful" Saturday. The left-hander got a late start to spring training while working his way back from elbow surgery and has had multiple setbacks with his shoulder since then. He's in the final year of a five-year contract that's paying him $20 million this season.
May 29 - 12:02 PM

Salvador Perez (quad) is expected to be sidelined for the next 7-10 days.

An MRI on Perez's right quad and knee didn't reveal any structural damage, but he has a bad bruise and is surely very sore after Saturday's collision with Cheslor Cuthbert. The Royals have recalled Tony Cruz and he will share the catching duties with Drew Butera while Perez is on the shelf.
May 29 - 11:49 AM

Mark Teixeira (neck) will take batting practice Sunday.

If it goes well, he could be back in the lineup Monday. Teixeira hasn't played since Tuesday due to neck injury that's bothered him throughout May.
May 29 - 11:37 AM

Michael Brantley (shoulder) admitted Saturday that it's "going to take a little bit of time" before he returns.

Indians manager Terry Francona added that the club is taking a more "conservative" approach with Brantley now after it appears they brought him back from the disabled list too soon late last month. "We didn't put a timetable (on Brantley's return) because there isn't one," said Francona. "It's how he feels." Brantley took dry swings and hit off a tee Friday, but he hasn't been cleared to swing a bat in consecutive days yet.
May 29 - 10:58 AM

Matt Adams (back) is back in the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Adams didn't start the last two games due to a back issue, although he delivered a pinch-hit, two-run double Saturday. He's batting .393/.443/.696 with four homers and 17 RBI this month.
