Red Sox activated OF Shane Victorino from the 15-day disabled list.

Victorino will bat sixth for the Red Sox in his return to the active roster on Saturday night. He's played in just 21 games this season but finally appears to be past the back and hamstring injuries that have plagued him. Victorino should provide decent fantasy value down the stretch. Mookie Betts was optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding roster move.

James Paxton (pectoral) hopes to begin playing catch this weekend.

Paxton remains in shutdown mode with a strained left pectoral muscle, but he told reporters Tuesday that he's feeling much better and he has a check-up exam scheduled for this Friday in Seattle. We should have a clearer picture about his timetable by Saturday. Paxton hit the disabled list on August 11 with a stellar 12-3 record, 2.78 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 138/33 K/BB ratio in 119 2/3 innings this season. The 28-year-old southpaw also missed time in May with a forearm strain.

Joey Gallo hit his ninth homer of the month and 34th of the year Tuesday against the Tigers.

He also walked and scored a second run. That run is notable; he'd been driven in just once in his previous 17 games. The Rangers have slowly moved him up in the lineup, but they still won't go any higher than fifth with him.
Aug 15 - 11:52 PM

Luis Castillo had to settle for a no-decision but was superb Tuesday night against the Cubs, whiffing seven batters over six shutout frames in the Reds' 2-1 victory.

Castillo permitted only two hits -- both singles -- on the night while issuing a pair of walks. He had thrown only 80 pitches through his six shutout innings, but the Reds elected to pinch-hit for him in the top of the seventh when they had a scoring opportunity. Castillo has tossed four straight quality starts and has not given up more than four runs in any outing despite facing a brutal schedule. He takes on the Braves in Atlanta this weekend.

Zach Davies limited the Pirates to one run over 6 2/3 innings to pick up his 14th victory on Tuesday.

We're three-quarters of the way through the season and Zach Davies has a realistic chance at 20 wins. He hasn't been great; his 4.26 ERA is worse than his 3.97 mark from last year, when he went 11-7 in 28 starts. His strikeouts are down and his walks are up. Still, he has taken a step forward this last month and the run support has been there all year long.
Aug 15 - 11:25 PM

Gary Sanchez continued to swing a hot bat Tuesday, slugging a solo homer and adding a single and a sac fly in a win over the Mets.

Sanchez's bomb off of Jacob deGrom was a no-doubter over the left-field wall and put the Yankees up 4-0 at the time. His sac fly in the eighth inning wound up being the winning run. The young catcher has now homered four times over his last seven contests and has piled up 11 hits during a seven-game hitting streak.
Aug 15 - 10:59 PM

Dominic Smith swatted an opposite-field, two-run shot for his first major league home run in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.

Sonny Gray shut out the Mets through the first six frames, but Smith followed a Wilmer Flores walk by lifting one just over the left-field wall. In addition to it being his first big league homer, it was also Smith's first two RBI. He has a hit in four of five games with the big club.
Aug 15 - 10:44 PM

Aroldis Chapman felt tightness in his hamstring on the final play of Wednesday's game against the Mets.

Chapman told reporters after the game that "it's nothing to worry about," but he was clearly grimacing as he came off the mound on Juan Lagares' groundout and he stepped gingerly on the first base bag to complete his 16th save. The closer looked shaky again Tuesday, allowing a two-run homer to Amed Rosario before eventually nailing down the win. David Robertson and Dellin Betances should be owned in most fantasy leagues either way.
Aug 15 - 10:38 PM

Odubel Herrera (hamstring) said he doesn't think he'll need a 10-day disabled list stint.

Herrera was held out of Tuesday's game in San Diego after injuring his left hamstring on Monday night. The last-place Phillies might decide to play it safe here and give the 25-year-old outfielder an extended period of rest, but he remains on the active roster for now. Nick Williams started in center field for the Phillies on Tuesday against the Padres, with Rhys Hoskins in left and Hyun Soo Kim in right.
Aug 15 - 10:33 PM

Howie Kendrick smashed a pair of solo home runs Tuesday against the Angels.

Kendrick took Tyler Skaggs deep in the third inning and again in the fifth. This is after he won the second game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Giants with a walk-off grand slam. Kendrick has been a phenomenal pick-up by the Nationals so far, as he's now batting .386 with four longballs over 14 games with his new team.

Andrew Heaney (elbow) threw a bullpen session in front of Angels coaches and trainers on Tuesday at Nationals Park.

If he wakes up Wednesday with no abnormal discomfort, the 26-year-old left-hander should be cleared to join the Angels' rotation on Friday or Saturday in Baltimore. Heaney registered a sharp 2.60 ERA and 29/5 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings on his six-start minor league rehab assignment. "He’s had just a seamless recovery and rehabilitation from [Tommy John surgery]," manager Mike Scioscia said Tuesday. "Everything to this point has gone as well as you could ever expect. I think where he is right now, we’re very excited about it."
Aug 15 - 8:18 PM

Trea Turner took on-field batting practice Tuesday for the first time since fracturing his right wrist in late June.

Turner has already been fielding, throwing, and running, so hitting was his last rehab activity to check off the list. "Feels great," he said after Tuesday's workout. The shortstop should be cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment before the end of the week and he is on track to return to the Nationals' active roster in late August.
