Casey McGehee homered Sunday in the Marlins' 3-2 victory over the visiting Giants.

It was a two-run shot to deep left-center field off Giants starter Tim Lincecum. McGehee is batting .322 with 56 RBI in 96 games this season, but Sunday's home run was only his second. Part of that is the park he calls home. Marlins GM Dan Jennings said earlier this month that McGehee will not be on the block at this year's July 31 trade deadline, so don't expect the power to improve all that much down the stretch.

Felix Hernandez (shoulder) will reportedly be placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Hernandez flew back to Seattle for an MRI of his right shoulder late Tuesday night after struggling through an ugly two-inning outing at Detroit's Comerica Park. All that is known for now is that he's experiencing fatigue. There should be a more official diagnosis at some point Wednesday night. Mitch Haniger (oblique) is also headed to the disabled list for the last-place Mariners.

Dustin Pedroia (knee, ankle) remains out of the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday.

Pedroia hasn't played since injuring his knee and ankle last Friday on a hard slide by Manny Machado. The rainy forecast at Fenway Park played a role in his continued absence Wednesday, though the veteran second baseman also still has some lingering soreness.
Apr 26 - 2:42 PM

David Freese (hamstring) remains out of the Pirates' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Freese is day-to-day with right hamstring soreness. Josh Harrison will start at third base and bat leadoff Wednesday versus Cubs left-hander Jon Lester. Phil Gosselin is at second base and batting eighth.

Wednesday night's game between the Blue Jays and Cardinals has been postponed due to rain.

The forecast calls for continuous rain throughout the day and night in St. Louis, so this one gets an early bang. Carlos Martinez was set to face off against Mat Latos with a 7:15 p.m. CT start time. The game will be made up with a split doubleheader (12:45 p.m. CT and 6:15 p.m. CT) on Thursday at Busch Stadium.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal confirms that the Pirates are promoting minor league infielder Gift Ngoepe.

He'll be the first-ever African-born player to reach the major league level. Ngoepe, 27, was batting just .241/.308/.379 through 66 plate appearances this season with Triple-A Indianapolis, but the Bucs are desperate for infield depth with David Freese nursing a sore hamstring. Ngoepe probably won't be up for long and is not fantasy-relevant.

Trea Turner hit for the cycle in Tuesday's game at Colorado, finishing with four runs scored and a career-high seven RBI.

The seven RBI are tied for second-most in a single game in franchise history, and it was the first cycle for a Washington player since Cristian Guzman accomplished the feat Aug. 28, 2008. The former standout at North Carolina State has hit safely in each of his past four starts since returning from the 10-day disabled list.

Brandon Crawford has been diagnosed with a right groin strain.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the club is hoping to get an MRI before Crawford goes on bereavement leave Wednesday. This could turn into a 10-day disabled list stint for the 30-year-old shortstop, who injured his groin Tuesday on an eighth-inning single against the Dodgers. He'll be away from the Giants through Friday at least to attend funeral services for his sister-in-law. Eduardo Nunez took over at shortstop on Tuesday night.

Eric Thames delivered his 11th homer Tuesday off the Reds' Robert Stephenson.

Eight of those homers have come versus Cincinnati pitching. Thames also worked his 14th walk in 20 games tonight before telling reporters after the game that he's got "plenty of urine and blood" to go around for MLB's drug testers. He has been tested three times since spring training, including a blood and urine test Tuesday. The guy is for real.

Felix Hernandez is headed back to Seattle to have his right shoulder examined.

Hernandez experienced shoulder fatigue -- what manager Scott Servais called "dead arm" -- during his ugly two-inning start Tuesday night at Detroit's Comerica Park. Seattle wound up losing the game 19-9 and Hernandez watched his ERA balloon to 4.73 after surrendering four earned runs. There might not be an update on his status until Thursday. Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times says Felix "left the clubhouse quickly" on Tuesday and "was visibly upset."

Jose Altuve (head) said he expects to play Wednesday.

Altuve was removed from Tuesday's game against the Indians after taking a blow to the head in an ugly outfield collision with Teoscar Hernandez, but he has already been cleared of a concussion. "Most likely -- I think we still have to wait until tomorrow, but I have a good chance to play tomorrow," the star second baseman told reporters late Tuesday.
Apr 25 - 10:00 PM

Dallas Keuchel went the distance Tuesday, holding the Indians to two runs in a 4-2 victory.

It's the first time this season that Keuchel has allowed more than one run in a start, but something tells us he'll be OK with this effort. Both runs he allowed came on solo homers from Austin Jackson and Michael Brantley, and he should have allowed a third to Jason Kipnis if not for Josh Reddick scaling the wall to pull it back. Keuchel, who threw 122 pitches Tuesday, will take a 1.22 ERA into this weekend's outing versus the A's. He's back in Cy Young form.
