Bartolo Colon carried a perfect game into the seventh inning Wednesday in the Mets' 3-2 win over the Mariners.

Robinson Cano ended the bid for perfection with a two-out single to shallow left field in the bottom of the seventh. Colon then gave up two runs in the eighth but wound up with his ninth victory of 2014. The 41-year-old right-hander has a 4.03 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 100/19 K/BB ratio in 134 innings this season. The Mets are known to be shopping him with the July 31 trade deadline drawing near.

Nick Markakis went 4-for-5 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored to help the Braves hold on for a 12-11 win over the Giants on Thursday.

Markakis took Giants starter Matt Cain deep in the first inning for a two-run blast, just his third of the season. It kicked off the scoring in a game that would see 23 runs scored on 31 hits. Markakis himself picked up three more singles along the way, raising his line to .296/.374/.394 on the year. The 33-year-old has 41 RBI and 37 runs scored in 72 games as the Braves' primary right fielder.

Buster Posey was an extra-base hit machine Thursday, finishing 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, three RBI and two runs scored in a loss to the Braves.

Posey has always had a penchant for hitting left-handed pitching and feasted on Braves starter Jaime Garcia in this one, hitting a solo homer in the second and smacking two doubles off the southpaw before Garcia could be relieved. The homer was Posey's 10th of the season, the sixth straight year the backstop has reached double-digits in dingers. Quietly, the 30-year-old is having a remarkable offensive year this season, batting .344/.427/.537 through 63 games.

Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, a grand slam and six total RBI in Thursday's 9-6 win over the Tigers.

Entering action on Thursday, Cano had not homered since June 6. He put that dry spell to bed in high style, connecting first for a two-run home run off Daniel Norris in the second inning. He proceeded to top himself with a just-got-enough-of-it grand slam to center in the seventh to give the M's an insurmountable 9-3 lead. For the season, the veteran second baseman boasts a .284/.343/.482 triple-slash, 13 homers and 48 RBI in 257 at-bats.

Making his major league debut in Thursday's 9-6 win over the Tigers, Andrew Moore allowed three runs on six hits over seven innings.

Moore ran into a few sticky spots -- a solo home run allowed to Ian Kinsler in the third, two more runs crossing home in the sixth -- but by-and-large, this was a phenomenal debut performance. He struck out four without walking a batter and finished his evening having thrown an even 100 pitches, 69 for strikes. The 23-year-old right-hander had been pitching to a 2.72 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 77/17 K/BB ratio in 82 2/3 innings split between Double- and Triple-A prior to his call-up on Wednesday. He will try to repeat Thursday's strong performance in a home start against the Phillies next time he takes to the mound.

Cameron Maybin hit a leadoff homer, stole a base and scored three runs as the Angels doubled up the Yankees 10-5 on Thursday.

Maybin had just the one hit, his sixth homer of the year off Yankees starter Luis Severino to open the contest, but he also walked twice like a good leadoff man is wont to do. Also like a good leadoff man, the 30-year-old now has 46 runs scored on the year, ninth-most in the American League. His 22 stolen bases are best in the AL. It's just been an all-around good year for Maybin, who's hitting .277/.387/.442 after Thursday.

Brandon Phillips left Thursday's game against the Giants with left groin tightness.

Phillips has been deemed day-to-day. He will be reevaluated on Friday to determine the exact severity of the injury.
Jun 23 - 12:57 AM

Matt Kemp left Thursday's game against the Giants due to a tight left hamstring.

Kemp was lifted after hitting a single in the fifth inning. He has dealt with hamstring problems at several other points this season. The Braves are labeling him day-to-day for the time being, but a stay on the disabled list is always in play with a finicky issue like the hamstring. Kemp will be reevaluated on Friday.

Austin Jackson went 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored in the Indians' 6-3 win over the Orioles on Thursday.

Jackson swatted an RBI triple and scored a run in the second inning, and he tacked on a two-run single with the bases loaded in the third. The 30-year-old has come on strong in recent days, going 8-for-19 with two doubles, a triple and a homer in his last five games. He's still a situational player but he's being used well by the Tribe, hitting .301/.382/.516 in 34 games this year.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Royals have reached a deal with RHP Neftali Feliz.

Feliz was terrible with the Brewers earlier this year but perhaps he'll benefit from a change of scenery. The right-hander has a proven track record with 107 big league saves. In Kansas City, he'll fill a setup role in front of closer Kelvin Herrera.

According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Nationals have shown interest in Pat Neshek.

Neshek, who is headed for free agency in 2018, acknowledged that it's likely he'll be traded before the July 31 deadline. Nobody is more desperate for a closer than the Nationals and Neshek would seem to be a perfect fit. It's rare for teams to trade within the division but perhaps the two sides would make an exception. The Nats have also expressed interest in White Sox closer David Robertson and Padres lefty Brad Hand.

Addison Russell went 4-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored as the Cubs pounded the Marlins 11-1 on Thursday.

The Cubs' cleanup hitter on this day certainly did his fair share of cleaning up, homering in the seventh inning and knocking two more doubles over the course of the game. It's been a difficult year for the 23-year-old, but he's now hitting .297 (14-for-47) with four homers this month. Overall, Russell still has some work to do on his .234/.304/.413 line.
