A source tells Scout.com's Kyle Bogenschutz that the Rangers have agreed to trade Joakim Soria to the Tigers.

Bogenschutz hears Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson, two right-handers in the Tigers' system, will go the other way in the deal. In Soria, the Tigers are acquiring a pitcher with a 2.70 ERA and 0.87 WHIP who has saved 17 games for the Rangers this season. Given Joe Nathan's struggles in Detroit, Soria could immediately take over as the ninth-inning reliever for the Tigers.

Chris Archer kept the Orioles off the board over six innings, earning his 12th win on Monday.

In the first inning, Archer got an assist from center fielder Kevin Kiermaier as he robbed Manny Machado of what would have been a solo home run. The right-hander scattered four hits and three walks with six strikeouts on the evening. Archer heads into the final month with a 2.78 ERA, a 1.04 WHIP, and a 223/46 K/BB ratio over 181 innings. He'll face the Yankees in the Bronx next.
Aug 31 - 10:28 PM

Shelby Miller remained winless since May 17, firing seven innings of one-run ball in a loss to the Marlins on Monday.

As usual, the Braves didn't offer him any run support. Miller's lone mistake occurred in the second inning, when Cole Gillespie hammered a solo home run out to left field. It was one of six hits he allowed with no walks and four strikeouts. Despite an awful 5-12 record, Miller has had a great season, sporting a 2.56 ERA with a 1.18 WHIP and a 147/58 K/BB ratio over 172 innings. He'll try not to have his winless streak extended to 20 starts when he faces the Nationals in a road match-up next.
Aug 31 - 10:20 PM

Edwin Encarnacion extended his hitting streak to 26 games, finishing 2-for-4 in Monday's loss to the Indians.

Encarnacion singled to lead off the sixth inning, extending his hitting streak to 26 games. During his hitting streak, the 1B/DH is batting .412 (40-for-97). He added a double in the eighth inning, but was stranded. Encarnacion carries an impressive .274/.362/.548 triple-slash line with 30 home runs and 91 RBI on the year.

Danny Salazar limited the Blue Jays to two runs while racking up 10 strikeouts in seven innings in Monday's win.

Both runs came around in the fifth inning on Josh Donaldson's two-run triple. Salazar held the Blue Jays to six hits and a walk along with the 10 strikeouts. The right-hander has pitched magnificently in the second half, boasting a 2.39 ERA over his last eight starts. On the season, Salazar has a 3.27 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and a 172/42 K/BB ratio over 151 1/3 innings. He'll match up with the Tigers in a road start next.
Aug 31 - 10:07 PM

Royals acquired OF Jonny Gomes and cash considerations from the Braves in exchange for SS Luis Valenzuela.

Gomes has batted just .221/.325/.364 on the season but entered play Monday with a .271/.375/.458 batting line in the second half. He should serve mainly as a pinch-hitting option versus left-handers down the stretch.
Aug 31 - 9:44 PM

Bartolo Colon picked up the win on Monday with eight scoreless innings versus the Phillies.

Colon improved on his seven scoreless innings against the Phillies on Wednesday. On Monday, he limited the opposition to only four hits and a walk while striking out nine in his strongest performance of the season. He'll bring a 4.42 ERA, a 1.25 WHIP, and a 125/21 K/BB ratio over 161 innings into a start in Miami against the Marlins.

Dodgers placed INF/OF Enrique Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

The Dodgers didn't want to wait a day until rosters expanded, so they're obviously confident Hernandez will need at least a couple weeks to recover. Joc Pederson will operate as the club's regular center fielder, while Austin Barnes replaced Hernandez on the roster.
Aug 31 - 8:56 PM

David Freese (finger) will be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday.

The thought had been that he would be activated Monday, but the Angels have decided to wait until rosters expand Tuesday. Freese has been on the shelf since late July with a non-displaced fracture in his right index finger. He's hitting .240/.309/.397 with 11 homers this season.
Aug 31 - 8:39 PM

Chris Bassitt will undergo an MRI Monday after experiencing right shoulder soreness.

Bassitt began feeling soreness after his previous start. He had been slated to start on Tuesday, but Cody Martin will be called up to take the ball instead. Obviously, more will be known about Bassitt's status after the exam results come back. He's been a nice surprise for the A's with a 2.82 ERA and 1.13 WHIP over 73 1/3 innings.
Aug 31 - 8:35 PM

The Rangers expect to use Josh Hamilton (knee) only as a pinch-hitter during the final month of the season.

Hamilton can hit and throw without any issues, but he remains unable to run without experiencing discomfort in his left knee. It's possible he'll require surgery over the offseason. The Rangers acquired Will Venable earlier this month as protection for Hamilton and he's now slated to serve as the club's regular left fielder down the stretch.
Aug 31 - 8:26 PM

Maikel Franco (wrist) will take batting practice on Wednesday.

The feeling at the time when Franco was placed on the disabled list with a fractured left wrist was that there was a good chance his season would be over. However, it's now looking very likely that he'll be back at some point in September. "Once he does that -- getting a few at-bats and taking some batting practice -- I might run him right in there if he's 100 percent," Phillies interim manager Pete Mackanin said.
