A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-4 in his Cardinals debut on Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field, playing a big role in a 6-3 win over the rival Cubs.

Pierzynski grounded out in his first at-bat but singled in the next three, driving home an important insurance run in the Cards' four-run seventh inning. He was not hitting well in Boston, but the 37-year-old catcher has good career offensive numbers and is going to get semi-regular playing time in St. Louis while Yadier Molina (thumb) is out. Pierzynski is relevant again in deep mixed fantasy leagues.

Gregory Polanco was scratched from Monday's lineup with tightness in his left groin.

It's not clear when Polanco suffered the injury. He'll receive treatment and be re-evaluated during the game and an update on his status will likely be available later Monday. Andrew Lambo took his place in right field.

Reds placed RHP Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with a right elbow ligament sprain.

Yikes. Bailey had made just two starts after working his way back from last September's flexor tendon surgery and now it appears he might be headed for Tommy John surgery. The Reds have yet to comment on whether Bailey will have an operation or if he'll try rehabbing the injury first. Raisel Iglesias and Michael Lorenzen are candidates to replace Bailey in the rotation.

Brandon Belt is absent from the Giants' lineup for the third straight day Monday.

It's bad timing with the club facing three straight left-handers, but it's discouraging that manager Bruce Bochy has no faith in Belt's ability versus southpaws. His career OPS against lefties (.771) is not much lower than it is versus righties (.790), but Bochy is, in effect, platooning Belt with Andrew Susac. Buster Posey is at first base again Monday, while Susac is behind the plate.
Apr 27 - 6:33 PM

Monday's game between the White Sox and Orioles has been postponed due to the protests in Baltimore.

The decision was made after the O's consulted with the Baltimore City Police Department. No makeup date has been scheduled yet. Ubaldo Jimenez and Hector Noesi had been slated to start Monday.
Apr 27 - 6:27 PM

Rockies placed RHP Adam Ottavino on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 26, with right triceps inflammation.

It's not clear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but obviously it's good news that he appears to have no structural damage. John Axford picked up a save last week while Ottavino was unavailable and looks like the guy to own in fantasy leagues.
Apr 27 - 6:02 PM

Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg indicated Monday that it's possible Domonic Brown (Achilles) could be sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley once activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

"I don't know that he's ready (to face major league pitching)," Sandberg said of Brown, who is hitting just .188/.298/.292 on his rehab assignment. The Phillies must do something with the outfielder, as his rehab clock runs out after Tuesday. It's hard to believe they wouldn't think Brown is a better option than Jeff Francoeur in right field, but it wouldn't be the first time Philly has made an odd decision.
Apr 27 - 5:53 PM

Adam Wainwright will undergo season-ending surgery on Thursday after an MRI confirmed that he suffered a torn left Achilles tendon on Saturday.

The operation carries a 9-12 month rehab schedule, although Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Monday that he was optimistic the right would be ready for spring training. Wainwright, who will turn 34 in August, has three years remaining on his contract after 2015. The Cards will go with either Tyler Lyons or Tim Cooney as his replacement in the rotation for now, but Marco Gonzales (shoulder/pectoral) is expected back soon.
Apr 27 - 5:39 PM

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that the Diamondbacks are having internal discussions about whether to pursue Jarrod Saltalamacchia.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe says a total of five teams have expressed interest in Salty and that Marlins general manager Dan Jennings expects to trade the catcher. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick adds that, in addition to the D'Backs, the Red Sox, Indians and Mariners are also possible landing spots for Salty. Arizona would be an ideal landing spot for him, as he'd be in line to play regularly and would be in a hitter's park.
Apr 27 - 5:37 PM

Max Scherzer (thumb) will not make his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Braves.

That had been the presumption but only now has been made official. Nationals manager Matt Williams said that Scherzer probably only needs to be pushed back a couple days instead of missing a full turn through the rotation. Either Tanner Roark or A.J. Cole will start Tuesday in his place.
Apr 27 - 5:26 PM

Jose Bautista (shoulder) is back in the Blue Jays' lineup Monday.

He's in the designated hitter spot and batting cleanup. Bautista admitted that he still has some soreness and tightness in his right shoulder, but he plans to play through it going forward after missing the previous five games. The slugger sports a .149/.322/.426 batting line with four home runs this season.
Apr 27 - 5:06 PM

Jason Heyward (hamstring) is not in the Cardinals' lineup Monday.

Heyward revealed that he actually tweaked his left hamstring -- not left groin as previously reported -- on Sunday. The good news is that he expects to go through full workouts Monday and there would seem to be a good chance he'll be back out there Tuesday.. Mark Reynolds is getting a start in right field in Heyward's place Monday.
