Derek Holland (knee) will begin a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Wednesday if he gets through a bullpen session Monday with no issues.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels admitted that the Rangers considered before the second half began shutting Holland down for the season, but they obviously decided against it. The lefty has been out all year following left knee surgery. He should rejoin the rotation in late August if all goes well. "You start thinking about what’s most important," Daniels said. "With that being said, he has worked out so hard to come back. I think there is some benefit to him from a mental standpoint to see the light at the end of the tunnel."

Kyle Hendricks threw six shutout innings en route to the Cubs' 5-2 win over the Nationals on Thursday.

Hendricks allowed just two hits while walking two over his six innings of work. The right-hander struck out four. The win was his first since his season debut despite owning a nice 3.10 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through five starts. He's now 2-2 and will attempt to get over the .500 mark against the Padres on Tuesday.
May 6 - 12:32 AM

Adam Duvall homered in his third straight game to help the Reds best the Brewers 9-5 on Thursday.

Duvall's two-run bomb in the eighth inning did little to affect the outcome, but it caught our attention after he homered in each of the last two games of the Reds' series against the Giants as well. Unfortunately for Duvall, he's done a lot of his best work with the bases empty, sitting with five homers and just nine RBI on the season. He's got some pop and as the Reds' starting left fielder, he should be owned in all NL-only leagues if he isn't already.
May 5 - 11:47 PM

Christian Yelich hit a two-run home run and the Marlins shut out the Diamondbacks 4-0 on Thursday.

Yelich connected in the eight inning for his second homer in three games. It was his only hit in four at-bats. The outfielder has cooled slightly after a torrid start but is still hitting .330/.443/.511 with three homers, 14 RBI and 16 runs scored overall.
May 5 - 11:25 PM

Pedro Alvarez plated the only run of the game with a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning to down the Yankees 1-0 on Thursday.

Alvarez went hitless in three at-bats but was able to lift a fly ball deep enough to score Nolan Reimold and give the O's a victory. He has just one homer and four RBI in 19 games thus far with his new club, batting a paltry .196/.303/.321.
May 5 - 10:47 PM

Kevin Gausman scattered three hits over eight scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Thursday.

Gausman and Yankees starter Masahiro Tanaka went pitch for pitch through eight innings, with neither factoring in the decision. He struck out four without walking a batter, needing just 97 pitches in the efficient outing. It was easily the best of his three starts thus far, but Gausman has largely been good since making his debut on April 25. He'll take a 1.42 ERA and 0.68 WHIP into Tuesday's start at the Twins.
May 5 - 10:23 PM

Edwin Encarnacion homered and had six RBI as the Blue Jays thumped the Rangers 12-2 on Thursday.

E5 finished 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and a stolen base. He did most of his damage on two swings, clearing the bases with a double in the first inning before launching a three-run homer in the third. He's started to come on in recent days, homering in two straight. He's certainly capable of going on a tear for weeks at a time. Perhaps this is the start to a memorable May for the 33-year-old.
May 5 - 10:15 PM

Jung Ho Kang (knee) could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

The Pirates have already cleared a spot for him by optioning Jason Rogers to Triple-A Indianapolis. Kang struggled during his rehab assignment, hitting just .150 over 40 at-bats. The Pirates plan on easing him into action with David Freese still making occasional starts at third base. Kang hasn't played for the Pirates since injuring his knee on a hard slide by Chris Coghlan back on September 17.
May 5 - 9:11 PM

Hunter Pence is dealing with back tightness.

That would explain his absence from Thursday's starting lineup. He's hoping to return on Friday. Pence has gotten off to a strong start, hitting .279 with five homers and 23 RBI through 29 games.
May 5 - 8:43 PM

The Twins have placed left-hander Tommy Milone on waivers, per Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press.

Casey Fien was also waived. Milone was demoted to the bullpen last week after going winless in his first four starts with a 5.79 ERA. His lone relief outing went just as poorly as Milone scattered two hits and three runs in just 3 1/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to Houston. The 29-year-old can't reject a minor league assignment if he clears waivers.
May 5 - 8:31 PM

Garrett Richards (fatigue) has been scratched from Friday's start against the Rays.

Richards has been battling fatigue and dehydration all week. He was always a long shot to pitch on Friday. Cory Rasmus will start in what should be a bullpen game for the Angels. Richards is day-to-day.
May 5 - 7:34 PM

The Nationals are expected to activate Ben Revere (oblique) on Friday.

Revere could have played Thursday but manager Dusty Baker didn't want to risk it in the cold weather. He'll take batting practice and go through a normal pregame routine. Michael Taylor and Jayson Werth both stand to lose playing time with Revere healthy again.
