Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Padres are working to trade Chris Denorfia "soon."

Cotillo says the Giants, Blue Jays, and Mariners are among the teams expressing interest in Denorfia, who can become a free agent after this season. The 34-year-old is batting just .244/.295/.321 so far in 2014, but his career line is much better than that and he can play all three outfield spots. The Padres have already moved closer Huston Street and third baseman Chase Headley this month.

Nolan Arenado is not in Thursday's lineup against the Braves.

It sounds like a routine day off for the All-Star third baseman. Cristhian Adames will start at third base and bat eighth against Mike Foltynewicz.

Chris Tillman whiffed seven batters over seven frames of one-run ball in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Yankees.

The Bombers cut the Orioles' lead to 2-1 on a Starlin Castro RBI single in the second inning, but Tillman then retired 16 of the final 17 batters he faced. He yielded only four hits -- three singles -- on the day while walking two. The right-hander has gone seven innings and allowed just one run in each of his last four trips to the hill. He'll carry a 14-2 record and 3.18 ERA into outings against the Rockies and Blue Jays next week.

J.D. Martinez (elbow) could take batting practice on the field Thursday.

Assuming the weather cooperates, it would be his first time taking BP since suffering a fracture in his right elbow last month. Tigers manager Brad Asmus said Monday that Martinez is still a couple of weeks away, but he's making progress.

Jonathan Lucroy is not in the Brewers' starting lineup Thursday night against the Pirates.

Commence the trade speculation. Lucroy tallied three RBI and a stolen base on Wednesday night, but Martin Maldonado will get the nod at catcher Thursday. He is batting eighth versus Bucs lefty Francisco Liriano.

Justin Turner blasted a pair of home runs and drove in five runs in Thursday's victory over the Nationals.

Both longballs came off of Stephen Strasburg, as Turner launched a slider in the first inning for a two-run shot and then a fastball in the third for a three-run homer. Turner put up a .235/.335/.343 batting line with three homers in his first 50 games this season after last October's microfracture surgery on his knee. However, he's been mashing the ball since and now has a career-high 17 longballs to go along with a nice .267/.345/.482 line.

Giancarlo Stanton is not in the Marlins' starting lineup Thursday night against the Phillies.

Ichiro Suzuki will start in right field and bat leadoff versus Philadelphia right-hander Jerad Eickhoff. Stanton is 1-for-12 (.083) so far in this four-game series. He had been on an offensive tear.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: With Stanton out of the lineup, the Marlins will be missing their most potent bat, not to mention that typical leadoff man J.T. Realmuto will also get a night off. This is now a much improved spot for Jerad Eickhoff, who generally pitches well at home (.281 wOBA allowed, career 18.4 K-BB% with a 9.1 HR/FB rate). He also owns a 22.0 K% at home which is the highest mark among pitchers taking the hill tonight. Adam Wainwright and Steven Wright are still safer cash game targets, but Eickhoff is a perfectly suitable tournament target at a lower price tag.

Yasiel Puig left Thursday's game against the Nationals with right hamstring tightness.

Puig tweaked his right hammy while trying to beat out a grounder to third base in the top of the seventh inning. Scott Van Slyke took over in right field in the bottom of the seventh. This is not the same hamstring Puig injured in June, but he did have serious problems with it in 2015. Another trip back to the disabled list is a real possibility.

A rival executive told ESPN's Jayson Stark that be believes there is a "70 percent" chance Chris Archer winds up with the Dodgers before the August 1 trade deadline.

Stark describes this executive as somebody from a "team that's been talking to the Rays." Archer has had a disappointing 2016 season overall, but he struck out 11 batters in a win Wednesday at Coors Field and he was among the best pitchers in baseball in 2015. The 27-year-old right-hander is on a team-friendly contract that could potentially run through 2021. The asking price will be high, but the Dodgers have the kind of loaded farm system necessary to pull this off.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the White Sox were offered a "king's ransom" for Chris Sale in the last 48 hours and replied with a flat "no."

There have been reports that the White Sox do not want to break up their starting rotation, which would pull Jose Quintana off the block too. Sale is under club control through 2019 and boasts a 3.18 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, and 129/29 K/BB ratio in 133 innings this season. He finished fourth in the American League Cy Young Award voting last year and probably should have been higher. The 27-year-old ace is not going anywhere.
Jul 21 - 2:03 PM

Cubs GM Jed Hoyer said Dexter Fowler (hamstring) will rejoin the team this weekend in Milwaukee.

The exact day of his arrival is unclear, but it could be Friday for the opener of the three-game series. Fowler appeared in both games of a doubleheader Wednesday with Triple-A Iowa, going 1-for-5 with a double and a walk. The 30-year-old center fielder will return to a shiny .290/.398/.483 batting line.
Jul 21 - 1:26 PM

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Giants are considering a trade for Rockies lefty Boone Logan.

But he's just one of a number of relief targets for San Francisco. Logan, a 31-year-old impending free agent, has held left-handed batters to a .164/.203/.262 batting line in 2016 and he boasts a 2.81 ERA in 38 appearances overall. He'd be a great bullpen rental for any contending team.
