Cardinals acquired RHP John Lackey and LHP Corey Littrell from the Red Sox for RHP Joe Kelly and OF Allen Craig.

It's another exciting blockbuster trade on an active 2014 deadline day. Lackey has posted a strong 3.60 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 116/32 K/BB ratio in 137 1/3 innings this season for Boston and should be even better with the move to the National League. He holds a bargain $500,000 club option for the 2015 season as a result of his 2012 Tommy John surgery. The Cardinals gave up two big major league pieces in Kelly and Craig, but they're both having disappointing years.

Ryan Braun (calf) will be placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Braun only lasted four days before landing back on the DL. He's been struggling with calf issues on and off for the past month and appeared to aggravate his injury Thursday against the Diamondbacks. Left field duties will be shared between Hernan Perez, Nick Franklin and Eric Thames during his absence. More will be known on Braun's recovery timetable after he undergoes an MRI. The former MVP has been productive when healthy this year, hitting .262 with seven homers, 19 RBI and four steals over 30 appearances.

Dinelson Lamet struck out eight while allowing one run over five innings in his MLB debut Thursday, a 4-3 win over the Mets.

Lamet yielded just three hits, including a Lucas Duda solo homer, while also walking two in the outing. It was a heck of a debut for the 24-year-old, who earned the shot by posting a 3.23 ERA with 50 strikeouts in 39 inning at Triple-A El Paso to start the year. It certainly won't be his last start with the big club after that kind of debut. His next test will be a serious one, coming next Tuesday against the defending champion Cubs.
May 25 - 11:13 PM

Dustin Pedroia left Thursday's game against the Rangers with left knee soreness.

Josh Rutledge replaced Pedroia at second base to begin the sixth inning. The Red Sox said his removal was "precautionary" while beat writer Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe noted that Pedroia pleaded to stay in the game. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. This is the same knee that Pedroia injured earlier this year when Manny Machado slid into him at second base.
May 25 - 10:21 PM

Ryan Braun left Thursday's game against the Diamondbacks with left calf tightness.

It's the same injury that put Braun on the disabled list earlier this month. Jesus Aguilar pinch-hit for Braun in the fourth inning and stayed in to play first base while Eric Thames shifted to left field. Braun fouled out in his only at-bat before exiting.

According to Dennis Lin of the San Diego Union-Tribune, Brad Hand is "drawing keen interest" around the league.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports filed a similar report last week. Per Lin, the rebuilding Padres are "likely to consider just about anything" in trade talks, just as they did a year ago when they dealt Matt Kemp, Drew Pomeranz, Fernando Rodney and James Shields. Hand would make a ton of sense for the Nationals, who are in desperate need of bullpen help. We're guessing Hand will be wearing a new uniform by July 31.
May 25 - 9:23 PM

Dodgers activated RHP Kenta Maeda from the 10-day disabled list.

He'll be on the mound Thursday against the Cardinals. Maeda landed on the DL with hamstring tightness earlier this month but only missed a couple turns in the rotation. Though his ERA sits at a relatively uninspiring 5.03, Maeda had been on a roll before his injury with two wins and a 2.21 ERA over his previous three starts. Joc Pederson (concussion) was placed on the disabled list to make room for him.
May 25 - 6:38 PM

Dodgers placed Joc Pederson on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Pederson injured himself in a scary collision with Yasiel Puig on Wednesday night and will need some time to recover. The concussion is severe enough that Pederson has been advised not to use any electronics including watching television or using his cell phone. Brett Eibner, Enrique Hernandez and Chris Taylor are all candidates to fill in at center field during his absence. This is Pederson's second DL stint of the season.
May 25 - 6:37 PM

Manuel Margot (calf) is not in the Padres' lineup Thursday against the Mets.

Margot tweaked his calf breaking for a fly ball a few days ago and is still feeling a little sore. Matt Szczur is holding down the fort in center field and batting seventh Thursday against Mets right-hander Rafael Montero. Consider Margot day-to-day.
May 25 - 5:53 PM

Brian McCann (concussion) expects to be activated from the disabled list Saturday against the Orioles.

McCann claims to be 100 percent after passing a concussion test on Wednesday and won't need a rehab assignment. Evan Gattis and Juan Centeno have been filling in for him behind the plate.
May 25 - 5:20 PM

David Price (elbow) will make his season debut Monday against the White Sox.

He's expected to be a slightly reduced pitch count. Price got knocked around in Wednesday's rehab start for Triple-A Pawtucket but his velocity was good and the Red Sox obviously feel comfortable enough to slot him back into their starting rotation. The former Cy Young winner won 17 games and was one of the league leaders in strikeouts last year but it came with one of the worst ERAs of his career (3.99). The Red Sox could sure use another innings-eater with Drew Pomeranz struggling and Steven Wright (knee surgery) out for the year.
May 25 - 4:47 PM

Thursday's game between the Reds and Indians has been postponed due to rain.

Mike Clevinger and Tim Adleman had been the scheduled starters. Presumably, they'll be pushed back a day. The game will be made up July 24 at 7:10 PM ET.
