Johnny Cueto hung in tough in a low-scoring game against the Marlins on Thursday, limiting the opposition to one run over seven innings en route to his 12th win in the Reds' 3-1 victory.

Cueto was on the hook for a loss going into the seventh inning, but a fielding error by Jordany Valdespin opened up an opportunity for the Reds to tie the game and then take the lead. Cueto allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out nine. He now sports a 2.05 ERA, a 0.92 WHIP, and a 166/43 K/BB ratio. Cueto will take on the Indians in a road start next Tuesday.

Michael Saunders clobbered a pair of solo home runs on Friday, powering the Blue Jays to a 6-1 victory over the Rays in Tampa Bay.

Saunders tagged left-hander Drew Smyly (for the second time this season) for a solo blast in the third inning to open the scoring in the contest. He then launched another impressive drive off southpaw Dana Eveland in the eighth inning, increasing the Rays advantage to 3-0. Saunders has settled in nicely atop the Blue Jays lineup and is slashing an impressive .324/.377/.606 with four homers and eight RBI on the season.

Aaron Sanchez delivered an outstanding performance in Friday's victory over the Rays, racking up six strikeouts over seven scoreless innings of work.

Sanchez scattered six hits and a pair of walks on the night, never letting the Rays mount a serious threat against him. His transition to the starting rotation has gone incredibly well thus far, as Sanchez has compiled a 2.59 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 29/8 K/BB ratio over 30 1/3 innings, that despite allowing six runs in his last outing. He'll look to replicate this fine effort when he takes on the Rangers at home on Wednesday.

Rockies activated OF Charlie Blackmon from the 15-day disabled list.

Blackmon missed two weeks of action with a toe injury but is back at his regular spot atop the Rockies lineup on Friday. Prior to his injury, Blackmon was hitting just .185/.241/.333 with no homers and three RBI in his first eight games.

Jon Lester struck out 10 batters while yielding just one run over seven innings in Friday's 6-1 win over the Braves.

Lester ran into trouble in his final frame, loading the bases with nobody out with the help of a bunt that he misplayed. However, he got back-to-back strikeouts and then a groundout to escape trouble. Although he wasn't credited with a victory, it was another terrific showing for the veteran lefty. Lester has recorded 10 strikeouts in two of his last three starts and will take a 1.83 ERA and 33/7 K/BB ratio into next week's showdown with the Pirates in Pittsburgh.
Apr 29 - 6:03 PM

Alex Meyer will make his first major league start on Tuesday in Houston.

He's replacing Tommy Milone in the rotation. Meyer has started and relieved since the beginning of last season, putting up a 1.04 ERA and 19/4 K/BB ratio over 17 1/3 innings at Triple-A Rochester in 2016. He has major control issues but also a big arm, so it will be interesting to see how he fares. He's worth a shot if you're in a deep league.
Apr 29 - 5:33 PM

Athletics purchased the contract of LHP Sean Manaea from Triple-A Nashville.

Manaea will make his major league debut on Friday against the Astros. Acquired from the Royals last season in the Ben Zobrist deal, Manaea has put up a 1.50 ERA and 21/4 K/BB over 18 innings this season at Nashville. He should get a chance to stick around for good if he pitches well, particularly with Chris Bassitt (elbow) going on the disabled list.
Apr 29 - 4:48 PM

Athletics placed RHP Chris Bassitt on the 15-day disabled list with a right elbow strain.

It helps explain why Bassitt's velocity was down Thursday against the Tigers when he got pummeled for seven runs over 3 2/3 innings. It's unclear at this point how long Bassitt will be sidelined. Jesse Hahn will replace him in the rotation on Saturday.
Apr 29 - 4:44 PM

Giancarlo Stanton is not in the Marlins' lineup Friday.

He's just receiving a day of rest. The Marlins have Ichiro Suzuki in right field and in the leadoff spot in their first game without Dee Gordon. J.T. Realmuto and Adeiny Hechavarria are also getting breathers, as Jeff Mathis is catching and Miguel Rojas is at shortstop.
Apr 29 - 4:30 PM

Yoenis Cespedes (leg) is back in the Mets' lineup Friday.

It's his first start in a week due to a bruised thigh, although he had a big pinch-hit homer on Wednesday. Cespedes is batting .300/.373/.683 with six homers and 17 RBI this month.
Apr 29 - 3:16 PM

Tigers recalled RHP Michael Fulmer from Triple-A Toledo.

Fulmer will make his major league debut on Friday against the Twins. He's posted a 4.11 ERA and 20/5 K/BB ratio across 15 1/3 innings for Toledo this season and the top prospect isn't a bad streaming option. Fulmer is replacing Shane Greene (blister) and isn't a given to stick around long.
Apr 29 - 2:42 PM

Brewers optioned RHP Taylor Jungmann to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Jungmann pitched pretty well in 21 starts for the Brewers last season and started their third game of the season this year. However, he's put up a 9.15 ERA and 13/13 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings through five outings this season, so it's not a surprise a change was made. The Brewers haven't announced who will take Jungmann's rotation spot.
