Jarred Cosart has been scratched from his scheduled Thursday start in Pittsburgh due to a sore oblique.

Brian Flynn will take the mound in his place. Cosart struggled in his Marlins debut last Friday night against the Reds, surrendering four runs in 5 1/3 innings. He is aiming to return to the rotation on Tuesday.

Josh Hamilton has no new structural damage in his surgically-repaired left knee.

Hamilton was flown to Houston on Wednesday for a thorough examination of the knee after experiencing a tweak while running Tuesday in Rangers camp. It's just some minor discomfort, but the veteran slugger won't participate in workouts for at least a couple days. He's a poor bet to stay healthy and productive in 2017.

According to Jon Heyman, the Rangers are discussing a long-term extension with second baseman Rougned Odor.

Heyman says the Texas front office is "believed to have offered something in the range of the $52.5-million, six-year deal Jason Kipnis did as a pre-arb player with the Indians." Odor and Kipnis have the same agent, so this isn't some random comp. It sounds like the goal is to get something hammered out before the end of spring training. Odor, 23, tallied 33 home runs, 88 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 89 runs scored in 150 games last season for the Rangers. He is currently under control through 2020.

Zach Britton told reporters Thursday morning that his oblique is improving.

Britton felt some discomfort on his side after throwing a bullpen session Monday in Orioles camp and he has been sitting out of workouts since. It's just a precautionary measure here in late February. The stud closer should be all caught up by the opening of the 2017 regular season.

Carlos Gonzalez said that "there's no conversation" with the Rockies regarding an extension right now.

"It’s up to them. They’re the ones that make the decision. We don’t make the decision. We just listen and work," Gonzalez said. He is entering the final year of his contract. In early January, general manager Jeff Bridich indicated that the team was hoping to work out an extension. There do not appear to have been any substantive talks since. This past season, the 31-year-old Gonzalez whacked 25 home runs and notched an even 100 RBI while slashing .298/.350/.505 in 584 at-bats.

Todd Frazier suffered an oblique strain on Monday.

The issue was originally described as soreness in his lower left side. Either way, he's likely to be shut down for a few days. There's no need to take a chance with him this early in the spring.

Pirates head athletic trainer Todd Tomczyk said Wednesday that Josh Bell (knee) is ahead of schedule and has been cleared for everything except for full-speed running.

Great news. Bell underwent knee surgery three weeks ago, but he already progressed to taking some swings against Jameson Taillon and Tyler Glasnow on Tuesday. The Pirates will ease him back into running, but it shouldn't take him long to get ready for game action.

Will Smith has been shut down with left elbow inflammation.

The MRI came back clean, but the Giants plan to back off him for the next week. Giants manager Bruce Bochy is still confident he'll be ready for the start of the season, but he can't afford any significant setbacks. Smith posted a 2.95 ERA in 26 appearances after being acquired from the Brewers last August and will pitch in a set-up role if healthy in 2017.

Josh Hamilton will have his left knee examined in Houston on Wednesday after feeling something while running on Tuesday.

It's the same knee which required surgery to repair an ACL injury and arterial and meniscus cartilage last June. We should know more about his status soon, but this is obviously a troubling development. Hamilton, 35, didn't play at all in the majors last season and has appeared in just 139 games dating back to the start of 2014. He's in camp as a non-roster invitee this spring, but this could be the end of the line for him if he suffered another significant injury.

Phil Rogers of MLB.com reports that "nothing seems imminent" in trade talks between the Nationals and White Sox regarding closer David Robertson.

The Nationals have been linked to Robertson for most of the winter and many have tried to connect the dots to a potential match with the White Sox after the Matt Wieters signing, as Pedro Severino could make sense for Chicago. Rogers hears that the Nationals remain interested in Robertson, but it's unclear whether they'll act soon or wait to scout him during the World Baseball Classic. It's a situation to watch. Robertson is owed $25 million over the next two seasons.

Mets manager Terry Collins estimated Tuesday that David Wright won't be ready to play the field until around mid-March.

Wright, who is coming back from neck surgery and battling spinal stenosis in his back, played catch Tuesday for the second time this spring. He's going to be eased into action as a DH and in minor league games before testing himself in the field. "He is making strides," said Collins. "You are looking at, three weeks from today we will have a real good idea where he is at. That gives him a lot of time to lengthen himself out." It's ultimately hard to say if he'll be ready for Opening Day until he really starts ramping things up.

Jung Ho Kang admitted to his DUI charge in a South Korea court on Wednesday.

Kang fled the scene after slamming into a guardrail on December 2 in Seoul, South Korea. It was his third DUI charge since 2009. "I deeply regret what I have done," Kang told Yonhap News. "If I can get one last chance, I will become an exemplary player to earn respect from everyone." According to Yonhap News, the court will hold a verdict hearing on March 3. It's unclear what the sentence might be or when he'll be able to rejoin the Pirates. He could also face a punishment from the Pirates, though he has agreed to enter an alcohol treatment program.
