Drew Hutchison was terrific on Wednesday, allowing only one run on one hit and a walk over 8 2/3 innings against the Orioles.

The right-hander struck out the first two batters he faced in the ninth but was lifted after walking Nick Markakis and running his pitch count up to 115. Hutchison accrued eight strikeouts on the evening, and the only blemish on his line came in the second inning when Chris Davis hit a solo home run. Hutchison has a 4.39 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 119/42 K/BB ratio, which he'll look to continue to improve upon when he takes on the Mariners to start an eight-game road trip on Monday.

Mets manager Terry Collins said if Steven Matz (shoulder) returns this year it will likely be as a reliever.

Matz has endured numerous setbacks in his recovery from a strained shoulder and with only a handful of games left in the regular season, there simply isn't enough time to stretch him out. The lefty had been scheduled to pitch Friday against the Phillies but was scratched after feeling renewed shoulder soreness. He hasn't pitched in a game since August 14.

Yadier Molina went 3-for-4 and drove home four runs on Saturday as the Cardinals smashed the Cubs 10-4.

Molina got the scoring started with a two-run double in the first inning, then added on to the rout with a two-run single in the seventh. He has had a nice bounceback season offensively, slashing .300/.354/.413 with seven homers and 53 RBI.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said Pablo Sandoval (shoulder) could return this season "if the need arises."

Sandoval is well ahead of schedule in his recovery from shoulder surgery. He's made two appearances in the fall instructional league at DH and took batting practice with the Red Sox on Saturday. It's still a long shot but there's an outside chance Panda could make the postseason roster, particularly if something happens to Aaron Hill, Travis Shaw or Brock Holt over the next week.
Sep 24 - 4:34 PM

Adrian Beltre, Rougned Odor and a host of other Rangers are getting the day off for Saturday's game against the Athletics.

Jonathan Lucroy, Carlos Beltran, Ian Desmond and Mitch Moreland are taking a seat as well. The Rangesr have already clinched the division title in the American League West, the only thing left to play for is home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Expect to see their regulars sporadically receiving rest over the final week and a half.

Jorge Soler returned to the Cubs starting lineup on Saturday.

Soler has been held out of the lineup since experiencing tightness in his side last Friday. He's getting the start in left field and will bat seventh against Alex Reyes and the Cardinals on Saturday.

Carlos Correa was removed from Friday's game against the Angels after re-injuring his shoulder on a diving attempt defensively.

Correa ranged back and attempted to make a diving grab in the outfield on a bloop double off the bat of Rafael Ortega in the ninth inning. Correa has been battling a shoulder injury for the past several weeks and appeared to aggravate it during the play. The Astros are expected to update his status on Saturday.

Ken Giles blew a save in epic fashion Friday against the Angels, giving up six runs on three hits and three walks.

Now that’s a meltdown. Giles gave up a leadoff single to Cliff Pennington before serving up a game-tying homer to Yunel Escobar. Things only got worse from there, as Mike Trout drew a walk with one out and eventually stole second base. The Astros elected to intentionally walk Albert Pujols after that, but C.J. Cron responded with an RBI single. Giles then uncorked a wild pitch and walked Andrelton Simmons to load the bases before being pulled. All three runs eventually came around to score. Giles’ ERA jumped from 3.47 to 4.31 with the nightmare performance. Not the best timing for fantasy owners.
Sep 24 - 12:08 AM

Mark Trumbo blasted a walk-off solo homer in the 12th inning on Friday, delivering the Orioles a much-needed 3-2 victory over the Diamondbacks.

With the victory, the O's kept pace in the battle for the second wild card, sitting half of a game behind the Tigers. In typical Orioles fashion, all of their scoring came via the long ball. Pedro Alvarez got the club on the board with a solo shot in the eighth, Matt Wieters tied it with a blast in the ninth and Trumbo with the game-winner in the 12th. He finished the night 2-for-5 and is now slashing .247/.309/.521 with 44 homers and 103 RBI on the year.
Sep 24 - 12:02 AM

Michael Conforto came alive at the plate Friday against the Phillies by going 2-for-3 with a three-run homer, a double, and two runs scored.

His three-run blast was the big blow in a six-run fifth inning. It was his first homer in the majors since way back on August 7. It has been a struggle for Conforto since his red-hot April, but the Mets’ lineup will look a lot different if he’s finally coming around. Jay Bruce should probably get comfortable on the bench.
Sep 23 - 11:17 PM

Freddie Freeman extended his hitting streak to 27 games in Friday’s win over the Marlins.

Freeman finished the night 1-for-3 with a double, two walks, and a run scored. He’s hitting a cool .365 during his career-long hitting streak and has pulled his batting average up from .289 to .303 along the way.
Sep 23 - 10:57 PM

Troy Tulowitzki knocked in four runs Friday against the Yankees.

Tulo went 2-for-4 on the night. He drove in two runs with a single in the first inning before adding another two-run single in the seventh. The 31-year-old is hitting .253/.318/.445 with 24 homers and 77 RBI in his first full season with the Blue Jays. Those numbers don’t stand out as much at the shortstop position these days in fantasy leagues.
