Josh Beckett underwent an MRI on his hip and will likely be placed on the disabled list.

Beckett has been trying to pitch through a labrum tear and two cysts in his hip, but he has really struggled some coming off the disabled list, so the Dodgers have apparently decided to shut him down. It's very possible that he could be done for the year. The Dodgers acquired Roberto Hernandez from the Phillies on Thursday and will have him take Beckett's spot in the rotation on Friday.

Justin Verlander had nothing in Sunday's 9-3 loss to the Indians, surrendering eight runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Verlander had been turning in a respectable season, but Sunday's start was a disaster. At least after the third inning. Verlander kept the scoreboard clean through the first three frames before collapsing to surrender a pair of runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth. The performance bumped his 3.78 ERA up to 4.30. In addition to that mark, he also holds a 1.13 WHIP and 107/28 K/BB ratio covering 104 2/3 innings. He will look to return to his previously dependable ways in a road showdown with the Rays next time he toes the rubber.

Anthony DeSclafani was marvelous in Sunday's 3-0 win over the Padres, tossing eight innings of five-hit shutout ball.

DeScalafani struck out five without walking a batter. He figures to sleep well tonight after throwing 117 pitches (77 strikes). Through his first four starts -- an oblique injury kept him off the mound for the first two months of the season -- the 26-year-old right-hander holds a sharp 1.52 ERA and slightly more dull 1.31 WHIP. He will look to continue rounding into form when he takes to the road for a date with the Nationals in his next scheduled start.

Tyler Duffey was phenomenal in Sunday's 7-1 win over the Yankees, striking out eight and allowing one run on two hits over eight innings.

Duffey did not walk a batter on the afternoon. He finished the contest having thrown 104 pitches (70 strikes). The Twins were actually considering pulling him from the rotation prior to Sunday's outing, as he entered the weekend the owner of a 6.18 ERA and 1.58 WHIP. He had allowed at least four runs in each of his seven starts since May 15. While the 25-year-old right-hander probably earned another start with his domination of the dormant Yankees, he will need to keep this up if he wants to keep the gig. A home start against the Rangers shows next on his schedule.
Jun 26 - 3:36 PM

Nathan Eovaldi struggled to keep the ball in the park during Sunday's 7-1 loss to the Twins, yielding four home runs and five total runs over six innings.

Danny Santana connected for a solo homer off Eovaldi in the third inning, but the fireworks show wouldn't reach a crescendo until the sixth. In that frame, Brian Dozier socked a two-run homer, which was followed by solo shots off the bats of Trevor Plouffe and Max Kepler. June has been nothing short of a disaster for Eovaldi, who has allowed 25 runs over his last 20 innings (five starts). His next outing will come on the road against the Padres as the calendar flips over to July.

An MRI on Yunel Escobar's left knee revealed a bone bruise.

Escobar suffered the injury on Thursday and hasn't played since. The injury has turned out to be worse than initially expected, although he hasn't been placed on the disabled list yet. However, a move can't be ruled out if he doesn't see improvement in the next day or two.
Jun 26 - 1:47 PM

Nationals placed RHP Stephen Strasburg on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 16, with an upper back strain.

Strasburg appeared to be track to start Sunday after visiting a chiropractor, but his back flared up on him again Saturday. He'll be eligible to return later this week but it seems unlikely that he'll be ready by then. The Nationals will announce a corresponding move prior to Monday's game.

David Ortiz is absent from the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

He's simply receiving a day of rest. The Red Sox have Bryce Brentz in the designated hitter spot and Ryan LaMarre in left field.

Pedro Moura of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Mets and Giants have expressed interest in Yunel Escobar.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick has also reported previously that the Giants are eyeing Escobar. It's unclear whether the Mets' interest in Escobar might be lessened now that they've signed Jose Reyes. The Angels hold a $7 million club option on Escobar for 2017, but Moura hears that the third baseman is likely to be dealt before the trade deadline.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Athletics and Josh Reddick plan to revisit contract extension talks before the trade deadline.

The two sides were unable to work something out previously, as the A's wanted to give Reddick a three-year deal and the outfielder was seeking four years. If a long-term deal isn't worked out, there's a good chance the A's will trade Reddick next month. Rosenthal does note that the club is prepared to hang on to Reddick and give him a qualifying offer over the winter if it comes to that. Reddick is making $6.575 million this season in his final year before free agency.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Jay Bruce is "a consideration" for the Dodgers.

The Dodgers aren't sure when they'll get Andre Ethier (leg) back or how he'll perform when he returns, putting them in the market for an outfielder. Bruce will be on the list of many teams looking for offensive help, as he's had a nice bounce-back season with a .280/.329/.575 batting line, 16 homers and 57 RBI. Rosenthal notes that Josh Reddick and Kole Calhoun could also potentially be fits for the Dodgers.

Zack Wheeler (elbow) will resume long-tossing on Monday.

Wheeler's rehab from Tommy John surgery hit a speed bump due to nerve irritation in his right elbow, but he was recently given a cortisone shot and hopes to get back on track. The right-hander should be ready to begin a rehab assignment soon if he can avoid another setback.
