Adam Eaton (back) is not in the White Sox' lineup Thursday.

Eaton had to leave Wednesday's game with a bruised lower back after crashing into the outfield wall. X-rays were negative and he is hoping to play on Friday. Leury Garcia is handling center field Thursday.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that a date for Michael Brantley's (shoulder) projected return is "still hazy," but it could happen "maybe late April or early May."

Brantley still isn't sure when he'll be allowed to begin a hitting program following November labrum surgery on his right shoulder, so any timetable is educated guesswork at this point. A clearer picture on Brantley's status should be available during spring training. The 28-year-old will be a risky fantasy investment this spring as he works his way back from major surgery. Rajai Davis is slated to hold down left field for the Indians until Brantley is ready.

Alex Cobb (elbow) is hoping to return in late July.

He's now 10 months removed from Tommy John surgery. Cobb has posted an ERA lower than three in each of his last two healthy seasons, though it remains to be seen how effective he'll be post-surgery. The right-hander's return will likely bump either Matt Moore or Erasmo Ramirez from the starting rotation.

Mets GM Sandy Alderson said his goal is for David Wright to play 130 games this season.

Wright has only done that once in his last three seasons. "We’re gonna make sure that he’s not overworked," said Alderson. "So it’s important for us to find somebody who can play 30 games or so at third base when he’s not in there." Along with Wright, Asdrubal Cabrera, Wilmer Flores and Neil Walker should also see time at the hot corner this year.

Giants second baseman Joe Panik told Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area that he's feeling "100 percent" and fully recovered from his back injury.

Panik wound up on the disabled list in August due to inflammation in his lower back and he only wound up playing in three games the rest of the season before getting shut down. The All-Star second baseman indicated that he has altered his offseason workout plan with the goal of preventing the issue from returning. Panik slashed .312/.378/.455 with eight homers, 37 RBI and three stolen bases in 100 games last season.

Brewers acquired C Jacob Nottingham and RHP Bubba Derby from the Athletics for OF Khris Davis.

Nottingham, who was a sixth-round selection of the Astros and went to the A's in last season's Scott Kazmir deal, gives the Brewers a legitimate catching prospect. The 20-year-old backstop slashed .316/.372/.505 with 17 homers and 82 RBI in 119 games across two minor league levels in 2015, finishing at High-A Stockton.

Athletics acquired OF Khris Davis from the Brewers for C Jacob Nottingham and RHP Bubba Derby.

The Brewers have been looking to deal Davis for awhile now and appear to have received a decent return. Nottingham gives them a legitimate catching prospect whose path could soon be cleared if the club is also successful in dealing Jonathan Lucroy. Davis will provide plenty of power in the middle of the A's lineup, though his fantasy value may take a slight hit with the move away from Miller Park.

Yankees and LHP Aroldis Chapman avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $11.325 million contract.

The compromise is slightly in Chapman's favor, as it's $275,000 over the midpoint from where the two sides filed at. The flame-throwing 28-year-old southpaw will make up one of the most dominant bullpen trios in the league, joining Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. He's expected to begin the season in the closer's role, though he could face disciplinary action from the league under the new domestic violence policy.

Indians signed RHP Tommy Hunter to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Hunter's ERA was up last season at 4.18, but he had a sub-3.00 mark each of the previous two campaigns after a full-time move to the bullpen. The 29-year-old is recovering from core muscle surgery but should be ready to go by the time Opening Day rolls around.

Major League Baseball has issued a permanent suspension of Jenrry Mejia after a third positive test for a performance-enhancing drug.

It's difficult to comprehend how Mejia let this happen. The reliever previously served an 80-game suspension and was still serving a 162-game suspension for positive tests when he got caught again with Boldenone. He's the first player ever in the majors or minors to receive a lifetime ban for performance-enhancing drugs. Mejia can apply for reinstatement in one year but his suspension must last at least two years. Since there's no precedent, it's hard to know what his chances are of being reinstated. It's quite a fall for a guy who not long ago was serving as the Mets' closer.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles' "first choice" as they look to add a hitter is Dexter Fowler.

Baltimore's signing of Yovani Gallardo is expected to be made official soon, and since they've already forfeited a draft pick for that addition, it makes since to keep adding talent. Fowler would fit the Orioles' desire to fortify the lineup with another bat and also a leadoff hitter. If they're unable to lure Fowler, Rosenthal says the club's "backup plan" is a trade for Jay Bruce.

Joe Mauer has revealed that he's occasionally dealt with blurred vision since his concussion issues in 2013.

Mauer noted that bright sunshine has sometimes triggered the blurred vision, which he said, not surprisingly, has affected his pitch tracking. He'll experiment during spring training with sunglasses in hopes that it will help the issue. "I’ve always been kind of weird about my routine when it comes to stepping into the (batter’s) box, but it’s something I’ll give a shot this spring and see if it helps," Mauer said. Mauer's concussion issues forced him to move to first base and it seems obvious that it's also affected his production at the plate, as he's hit .270/.348/.376 the last two seasons after entering 2013 with a career .323/.405/.468 line.
